So good so cheap! Kangkung dish was delish, but vegetarians beware! If you are a strict vegetarian, there is fish sauce which I adore, but made my friend really sick. Asians tend to not be so vegetarian friendly and say a dish is vegetarian when it isn’t always.

Don’t waste your time! My husband and I decided to try this place one night. We arrived, we were seated, we ordered on a piece of paper… and we were terribly disappointed when the food arrived! We had ordered a charcoal grilled thigh, a deep fried marinated thigh and ‘special’ nasi goreng. The thighs were a pretty steep $ 6.50 but we thought it must be worth it for them to put such a high price on a menu item in an area where surrounding restaurants were on the budget side. Boy were we wrong. They were probably thighs from a size 5 chicken. While we ordered two different types, they looked and tasted exactly the same. They were incredibly oily and I’m pretty sure anyone could make a better fried chicken at home! As for the ‘special’ nasi goreng. This was $ 12 I can never get back. To Ayam Goreng 99, special = fried egg on top. The nasi goreng was basically a pile of lumpy rice that they attempted to fry in soy sauce and a random bunch of ‘stuff’ they had left in the kitchen. Again, literally ANYONE could make a better nasi goreng at home. The only positive I can give is the chilli sauce/sambal — very nice strong hit of chilli though probably too strong for most. If you’re after some tasty, quality, affordable fried chicken and nasi goreng, I absolutely recommend Mamak :)

Ayam Goreng a favourite among the Unilocaler community. The beautiful red crest of Unilocal on the door inviting me in to sample Indonesian food at its finest. Have always meant to come here and finally it was Chicken time. Ayam Goreng is all about chicken. I was Brough along with an Indonesian friend of mine and when he is excited about Indonesian food you know it’s good. The restaurant is simply laid out with homely seats and tables. The staff were friendly and very quickly took or order. I let me friend do the ordering. Barely had time to look around and see what others were eating because or food was out prompt. We ordered grilled chicken breast, small salad, ox tail soup, fried vegetables and banana leaf cooked mushrooms. My mouth was watering at the prospect of all this food. My friend advised me to load my plate up with their special chilli sauce. I tried the chicken first without the sauce. It was amazing just broke apart so easy and almost melted in my mouth. Combining the chicken with the sauce was a heaven of flavours in my mouth. The chicken is sensational. I enjoyed the other dishes but I wouldn’t go especially here for them unless they had chicken on the side. Definitely will be back for some more chicken eating goodness :)

Food is good, inexpensive and an incredibly busy place during lunch and dinner time. Very popular with students and food enthusiasts. Family friendly. Try their famous fried chicken with hot ‘sambal ‘(warning: extremely hot & not for the faint-hearted)

Not my all time favourite — but still genuine enough to get my patronage. The food is simple and very inexpensive. It is very popular(Th, F, Sa) with a short wait time usually between 6pm — 8pm. The restaurant takes your name on a list until a spare table becomes available. Usually you don’t wait more than 15 minutes for a table. There are so many Indonesian restaurants in this area, that if waiting is an issue you can usually go to another restaurant if you wish. I go to this restaurant for the Javanese Fried Chicken called Ayam Bakar. Ask for the Breast piece(Dada Bakar) $ 6.50. I always eat this with a serving of Cah Kangkung $ 10 and a serving of white rice $ 2. Mix these flavours together for a true Indonesian dining experience. The chilli sauce provided at your table is very hot, so use sparingly. It can be mixed with sweet brown ketchup manis sauce. Another dish to try is the Nasi Goreng. It isn’t the best fried rice I have eaten, but it is still tasty. Complimentary free water in a jug is available free of charge. There are many other different cold drinks available on the menu. My favourite is Jus Alpukat — this is avocado juice with sweetened condensed milk, and streaks of chocolate syrup down the sides of the glass. This place is worth a visit if you like tasty Indonesian ‘Warung’ style food.

My girlfriend and I had dinner here in Sunday. We had the grill chicken, Kang Kung veggie, Fried rice, Chicken satay with a few drinks. The drinks are amazing esp the Durian but the food in general was pretty oily for my taste as well as my girlfriend’s. The chicken was probably the only thing that both of us seemed to enjoy without being exceptional. Overall it was a bit of a let down.

I made a special trip over the Bridge to Kingsford to have lunch at Ayam Goreng 99 on Monday, on the basis of Unilocal indicating it would be open. It was NOT. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Anyway, discovered another Indonesian restaurant there that was open, in fact there are several, so not a completely wasted trip. I will come back some time to try AG99.

Not going to lie, I had a hard time distinguishing Indonesian food from Malaysian food but after coming here it’s all been sorted. I think. A friend has been telling me how good the Indonesian food was here and she brought me along so I could have my mind blown. My mind wasn’t completely blown, but my sweat pores were cause this place is spicy, especially if you use their homemade sambal which they’re apparently famous for. This place is pretty packed and busy, which is a good sign. We came on a Thursday night around 7pm and we had to wait a bit to get seated, but it wasn’t a long wait at all. We ordered an Indonesian version of morning glory, the Javanese style fried chicken, and the chicken satay. The morning glory was what you’d expect, a simple and tasty dish with a bit of a kick to it(thanks, Indonesia.) The Javanese style fried chicken was really good, not too dry and crispy with a sweetness to it. Paired with the sambal it was pretty tasty. The chicken satay however, was AWESOME. The peanut sauce as well as the other two sauces I don’t remember was damn didlly icious. One of the best satays I’ve ever hard. Worth a visit for some authentic Indonesian food, even if you need to trek out here.

I remembered going to this place about 12 years ago. Anyway decided to visit this place on my stop over in sydney, and surprise2! the food still tasted the same as how i remembered it! Or if not even better. The ayam bakar was to die for, especially with rice and lots if chillies and kecap manis. The sate ayam was nice as well. Will be comng back here again the next time i visit sydney: D

Yeah its good but possibly not as great as some people make out. The Fried/Grileld chicken is what their famous for… its nice but not mind blowing. My favourite thing is the chicken sate with longtong(rice cakes)…the sauce is heavy on the kecap manis which is how I like it

Where is one of the best places for authentic Indonesian style fried chicken… Ayam Goreng 99! I got taken here a few years ago by one of my Indonesian friends to let me in on this Indonesian restaurant that’s always full of Indonesians fighting over some table space and the good stuff. Make sure to order the fried or bbq chicken, both are good, though I prefer the fried and you’ve got to have it with the coconut rice. I’m sure you’ll be coming back here, definitely one place to go when you’ve worked up an appetite-though after one bite, you might even want to order 2! Need a drink, try the Tehbotol, an Indonesian style tea drink.
