I’m going totally David & Margaret on this. The food was good, the drinks were cold but none of it really hit the high notes for me. Wouldn’t hurt if they could reprint their menus to show the change in beer on tap either.

The burgers here are just OK in my opinion. The buns from New Norcia are nothing special(if not a little too tough to chew) and the burgers are on the pricier side. I definitely like Flipside better in the burger game!

Perth has no shortage of quality burger establishments and, just recently, I’ve been noticing The Burger Bistro restaurants around town. Today I decided it was time to add a new notch to my Perth burger repertoire. The restaurant here is pleasantly spacious and I appreciated the way there were differently arrayed sections to appeal to a variety of guests. We chose a well-lit area toward the back of the restaurant, away from the hustle and bustle of the main floor. First came the chips which are accompanied by your choice of dipping sauces. Unfortunately, some of these choices were things like«tomato sauce» and«sweet chilli» and the only thing close to the delightful dipping aoilis that have become the mainstay of the gourmet burger bar was the«garlic mayo» which was on the menu anyway as a burger condiment. This was a shame because the chips were absolutely top shelf. Cooked to perfection without any greasy aftertaste and with that perfect crunch on the outside and fluffy interior. The garlic mayo was tasty and I had no complaints about that; however, a chilli aoili or something(as opposed to generic«sweet chilli sauce») would really add to the customisation possibilities. The burgers run on the expensive side, even by Perth’s outrageous standards, and once they arrived I discovered they were a little smaller than competitor restaurants. My New York Premium burger was tasty enough, but I can really see why some people would be unhappy with sourdough as the only option for bun. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love sourdough and, after six years of living in the USA, it’s pleasant to escape from the American penchant of favouring super-soft, airy hamburger buns of the sort regularly served-up at Hungry Jacks and McDonalds — despite this, sourdough is just too dense and chewy to make for a good vehicle for a hamburger. Your jaws just about have to wrench each bite of burger away, your head practically whipping to the side with effort. Despite the filling options being a little pedestrian for this level of establishment, I found myself wishing I could really sink my teeth into the burger and enjoy the flavours without it feeling like such an effort. Taste-wise the burger was good but unremarkable. I’d rank it about on a par with Jus Burgers but not as good as either Flipside or Grill’d. The Burger Bistro serves up decent burgers, but, with some questionable and limiting menu options and stratospheric prices, when you consider that most locations are mere feet away from cheaper and less problematic alternatives, I’m not sure I’d return.

In our relentless search for the perfect burger, my friend and I chose to give this place a try. As a practising Pescatarian, I found the menu rather limiting but decided to go with the Chickpea Chow Down. The individual ingredients were fresh, the chickpea pattie was tasty and the combination of chilli flakes and chilli sauce gave it a nice kick. My only problem was the bun. I like sourdough, but in this situation it’s density caused it to act like a Tortilla press on the burger contents. Past experience with vege patties has shown that most of them tend to be very delicate objects so I don’t think much can be done on that front, maybe offering a different type of softer bun option would be the way to go. Chips and dipping sauce were top notch. The search continues…

You have to get in early for lunch as the crowd builds quickly at thus eatery tucked away on shafto lane. The burgers were well balanced and punched out bags of flavour. I think the fennel seed in the lamburghini was fantastic. The only downside was the value for money, in that it is the most expensive burgers in Perth. Food 7.5÷10 service 7⁄10 décor 7.5÷10

If you like American burgers — this is the place for you, they even come with the pickle(well its in the bun rather than on this side). Great gourmet burgers, good service, good atmosphere. Great for a causal business lunch on a Friday.

Just had the Belle of the ball burger for dinner. Ordered at the counter, found a nice seat, food came out quickly. The menu warns the burgers are going to be pink in the middle. I was expecting medium but they were more medium-rare. Didn’t matter, gave it a go. It was delicious. I was worried about how high the burger was when it came out, but I gave it a good squish and it fit in my mouth :) It didn’t fall apart as much as the flipside burger I had on the weekend and the flavour was much much better. Would definitely go back.

We had a very average dining experience here. Despite marketing themselves as gluten free friendly, there are no GF buns available although bunless burgers with salad are available on the menu. Worst still their chips contain wheat flour. Who wants a burger without chips? To top it all off, they market their spelt buns as low gluten, any coeliac knows this is pointless even a small amount of gluten is enough to make us really sick. I had the casablanca sans bun. The beef patty was dry and bland, resembling something bought from a supermarket meat aisle. The harrisa accompanying the beef was unexciting and lacked the depth of flavour I expect this Morrocan spice should have. The emmental cheese could have been passed off for plastic cheese. My other half had the blue steel. This also lacked any distinct flavour. Service 7/10, food 4/10, venue 5⁄10

I had a yummy Vege burger from here, nice and big, a little too big actually. The ingredients were really fresh and the sauce was so tasty. The chips were good too, but I definitely couldn’t fit them in after my burger. I didn’t rate their menu as highly as other Burger joints such as Jus Burgers and Grill’d. Or the burger itself, it was good, just not amazing

I think it is silly all the comparison reviews, it is mentioned in almost everyone, now mine too. The are different, they aren’t trying to compete with each other, they are both joining for a completely different style of restaurant and the food other than being burgers is different. I personally like them both. Anyway onto the Burger Bistro review. I think this restaurant looks really nice inside it is bright and has dark wooden floor. It is quite classy looking. The service is poor, and that is one of the major let downs for me. None of the staff seem happy to be there at all. In fact most of them where miserable, and seemed to not be enjoying themselves. I mean I don’t expect anything to full on but a little smile would be nice. The burgers themselves are nice they have a good array of different choices, although failing a little on the vegetarian choices.

It’s beginning to seem that I can’t go out in Perth without stumbling across another so-called gourmet burger joint. The Burger Bistro is Leederville is one of the better ones I’ve found. It’s interesting to note the number of reviews comparing it unfavourably to the nearby Jus Burgers, which I could take or leave. Seriously, folks, what’s with the Jus obsession? Call me a contrarian if you must, but there’s really nothing that special about Jus. I would far sooner enjoy The Burger Bistro’s Captain America or Lamburgini – terrible puns aside – than suffer through Jus’s Guvnor again. The design of the restaurant is more impressive, too, with an open, airy feel where Jus feels like a warehouse loading zone crossed with a crèche. The availability of beer also makes it preferable. Even then, however, I still think there should be a moratorium on the use of the word gourmet in such close proximity to the word burger. I’m yet to eat a single one than genuinely deserved the superlative.

Very risky move by Burger Bistro to open up a burger joint in the very near vicinity of Jus Burger. As a non-fan of Jus Burger as well, there was little chance I would enjoy Burger Bistro. And I didn’t really. The service was poor with our waiter gracing us with is presence sporadically and often at very inconvenient times. They also proceeded to take our unfinished meals, before they were finished. The interior is a little gloomy for me, especially for a burger joint. It had more of an atmosphere of a posh restaurant, and not a place you go to grab a burger with your friends. Nothing special.

Being located just around the corner from Jus Burgers, The Burger Bistro tends to get slightly over-looked. But as the Leederville Jus Burgers isn’t as good as its counterparts in other locations of Perth, The Burger Bistro gets my vote in this neck of the woods. The burgers here come with think, juicy, fresh salad in them, as well as top quality meat and delicious sauces, which leaves them piled high as a skyscraper, and I’m in love with it! My boyfriend is mad into smokey barbeque sauce, so he can’t get enough of The Big Smoke(also the nickname for Ireland’s capital city) — Angus beef, pancetta bacon, emmental cheese, salad, garlic mayo and smokey barbeque sauce. My favourite thing about here is the ‘chicken no carb’ option. I prefer my burgers with no bun — not only for calorie reasons, but because I think the bun dilutes the flavours of its fillings. So any restaurant I go to I order the burger with no bun and usually get the chicken(or sometimes beef patty) on a plate with the few lettuce leave, one tomato slice and side of sauce that would have gone into my burger. But in Burger Bistro they treat me much better! With the no carb option you get a replacement salad of mixed green leaf, santini tomatoes, kalamata olives and your choice of cheese(emmental, feta or parmesan) which is the best thing I’ve ever heard ever!

It’s a courageous move for anyone to open up a Burger joint in such close proximity to the legendary Jus Burgers. The Burger Bistro have done such a thing, locating themselves on the busy Oxford St strip in Leederville. The bistro proudly declares that their buns are New Norcia sourdough spelt; more soluble and easily digestible. Um… so? Correct if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure burger craving bodies, are most concerned with the taste of a burger and not how easily its going to move through their digestive system. Serving these ‘special’ buns was a fail on The Burger Bistro’s part, because the bread tastes like couch foam. I had ordered the ‘Chickpea chow down’ and whilst the pattie was good, the rest of the burger was not. There was absolutely no sauce, relish or mayo, making it dry and bland. So The Burger Bistro gets a measly score on taste, and sadly, it doesn’t make redeem itself in ambience or service either. I don’t get why they are trying to make burgers classy. It’s a get-your-hands-dirty experience and that’s part of the fun. No one should make a burger place fancy unless you are making reallllly good gourmet ones… Jus burgers, I’m sorry that I strayed.

The Burger Bistro intends on turning your humble burger into a gourmet meal — and they are very successful with their venture. Located on the busy café strip of Oxford Street, The Burger Bistro is understated class, from its décor to their burgers. The interior of The Burger Bistro is made of dark wood with some bright accents on the walls. It works well in giving The Burger Bistro a touch of class and preventing the establishment from appearing claustrophobic. There are quite a range of burgers on selection, and The Burger Bistro also sources some of their meat from WA producers, like with their chicken burgers that feature meat sourced from Mt Barker in the south. For those who like blue cheese and beef, the Blue Steel burger is highly recommended — the beef is tender, while the cheese adds a sharp flavour to the meat without being overpowering. The burgers are generous, with a good balance between bread and filling. The Burger Bistro is great for people who like their burgers with an extra twist.
