Oh Bierhaus. How I love you. As an Adelaide Hills resident, this is where I direct and sometimes take beer lovers who are visiting the hills. What’s better on a hot summer day than escaping the sweltering city, venturing up to the cooler climate of the hills and getting a paddle at Bierhaus? Nothing, that’s what. Bierhaus have it all going on; Great beer, welcoming staff and owner, the brewing setup on display and great food. If you can score a table outside in summer, it doesn’t get much better. A group of friends, a paddle of beer each, some chips and buffalo wings and good times. More beers, and then hopefully someone hasn’t drank and can drive you home, or if you’re smart you get a group and do an Adelaide hills beer tour which includes prancing pony and grumpys. I’ll do one later and review it. In winter, chocolate oatmeal stout is the ultimate. I drink it at Stirling and Crafers pubs, buy it from belair… But on tap at Lobey is the best. Also, get a growler to drink at home and bring back for a refill any time and you’ve got the whole system gamed my friend. Beer on.

We visited the Bierhaus this past Sunday for the first time. WOW! Staff was friendly-we felt welcome immediately. My husband loved LOVED his venison and I thought my wings were delish. But the best thing(I sampled everyone’s choices) on the menu was the«date, nut and stout pudding». It was amazingly wonderfu!!! Kudos to the chef! We will definitely return.

Was let down from the moment we walked in. I know that sounds bad but its the truth. The place was full(which is awesome for the restaurant) but made it very hard to have a casual beer. Once we sat down with our beer it was very hard to hear or have a conversation with our friends. Just to top off our afternoon one of the bar staff threw ice from the restaurant over our heads to try and get it in the bar. We found this very rude but the staff saw nothing wrong with this. I will always give places a second chance and go with an open mind but it will bre very hard to change my mind. I know and understand from experience how hard it can be working on a busy Sunday but the service quality should still be seen as very important!

Micro brewery with 8 of their own on tap and a large kitchen offering a range of dishes Friday to Sunday and public holidays. We went on a Sunday, managed to grab a table near the fire, and enjoyed a great lunch(port Lincoln mussels and brisket rolls) with some local cider and sav blanc. Lovely staff, great vibe, delicious food — what more do you want. Already planning a return trip to taste all their beers.

If you are a lover of german style beer and american buffalo wings(the universes greatest pairing since Louis CK and a microphone) then this place should be on your bucket list. Easily the best buffalo wings in Adelaide and the brisket and coleslaw«Lobey Rolls» are probably the closest you’ll get to complete sensual bliss without having to remove your slacks. If you are looking for half a day of adventure, jump in your car, shun the expressway and take the windy route up to this soon to be Adelaide Hills institution, even without the aid of a strawberry farm or oversized replica of a children’s toy.

Three words… Chocolate Oatmeal Stout… When I saw this stout on the menu I was sold without even trying it. I am half Belgian, so it is in my nature to order things with chocolate in it. I can tell you, chocolate and beer is a winning combination. And to make everything even better, you can buy a takeaway growler of it! Great value at $ 45 first one and refill for $ 25. The restaurant is a cool little setting with it’s displays of the brewing equipment. That is something you generally pay to see on a tour. But no, they are proud of their creations and let you enjoy the sight from your table. I recommend trying the tasting pallet, they have a great range of beers. Only thing that disappoints me when I go for a visit, is that I wish they had more seating outside. That maybe a licensing restriction, but the venue is becoming popular so they may like to create some more space. The Beir Haus is a great place to take your tourist friends if they come to Adelaide. There are so many little gems in the Adelaide Hills, you just got to know where to look! Tip: Beir Haus make an amazing Christmas Ale as well. Try it during the season! They have also made a Botanic Ale with barley grown in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens! Great to see a locally supportive project

Excellent. Wide selection of high quality micro brews, and a really good menu. Great setting as well, and you can see in the brewery. You can buy various bottled beers and have them shipped home if you’re from out of town(cheap rates for post as well).

Love this place! Great selection of their own craft beers, with a range of sizes(not just schooner and pint) as well as two sizes of tasting paddles so you can try as few or as many quite easily. We love it for lunch with friends, great vibe in the place, and the food is better than you would expect for a country brewery. The absolute standout are the BUFFALOWINGS! Nice and spicy with a mild blue cheese sauce and celery sticks. They come in a doz and half doz, worth going back just for them! So moorish I have cravings now! The lobey rolls were also so tasty. Can’t wait for an excuse to go back.

A good micro with a decent amount of beers on tap. I encourage everyone who likes good beer to support this place. The more people that support it the better for the fine beer lovers of Australia. Maybe one day we can get close to the amount and range of good craft beers and micro brewers they have in the states. The AUS gov really needs to pull there finger out and stop taxing micro brewers in Australia like crazy.

It’s well worth the effort to take a drive out to Lobethal to sample the great beers they brew at the Bierhaus. If you can’t make a decision on what to try first then opt for the«paddle» that presents five of their beers. The food it’s sensational too, and had been specially crafted to accompany the beer. In winter sit close to the open fire and enjoy the great atmosphere.

This place is a beer lover’s paradise. If travelling to Lobethal is out of your way, it is worth going out of your way to visit the Lobethal Bierhaus for the award-winning beers on offer. BEERTASTING This place offers some excellent beer tasting served in a racks of six small glasses and, just like wine, it ranges from light to dark. The bar staff give customers cards to take them through each tasting. Highlights include the silver medal-winning Bohemian Pilsner, a light amber fermented lager with moderate hop aroma and flavoured with a bitter finish, according to my card. I just think it is very drinkable — if a little to drinkable. My ale-loving partner loved the chocolate oatmeal stout. MICROBREWERY As well as the cellar door the Bierhaus has a small all-grain micro brewery. FOOD There is a range of hearty fare on offer. We had, unfortunately, just eaten before we came to the bierhaus, but will endeavour to return because the meals look really good. STAFF The staff are friendly and super-efficient, even at busy times.

Lobethal Bierhaus is on my must-do while in the hills list. Everytime I have visitors from interstate staying I take them here. The bierhaus is the sight of an all grain micro brewery(fast expanding) run by two lovely gentlemen Phil and Alistair. The boys have a keen sense of humour and this shows in the naming of their brews — The Indian Pale AL and the Bohemian PHILsner. I used to work in a pub that served these products and it was always good sport watching the customers make turkeys of themselves trying to pronounce and make sense of these names. The biehaus itself is a great place to go for beer tastings, or, if you’re more technically minded you can take a tour of the brewery. There’s a great café/restaurant out the front as well which is often heaving, although all my visits have fallen on weekends. The food is generally very good, hearty wholesome and sometimes healthy! The coffee is often really good too, so if you’re feeling a little tired and emotional after all your tastings a good cuppa joe may be just what the doctor ordered.
