Of the many Indian restaurants in Adelaide, few of them specialise in South Indian cuisine, whilst most serve the largely popular North Indian dishes. This leaves a large area of unchartered terrain. Fortunately, Mango Grove proudly shakes things up with their South Indian menu. The staff were very friendly and guided my girlfriend and I through the menu with dishes we were largely unfamiliar with. Our order was ready within about 5 minutes, largely due to the fact that there was nobody else in the restaurant — but I have no problem with fast service! The food good. Not excellent, but it was good. We had the beef masala curry, the lamb niligiri khorma and the sambhar. They were a little watery, but it was nice to try something new, and overall I was satisfied with our meal. Unfortunately, Mango Grove is almost always empty whenever I happen to be passing by. Whether this comes down to the fact that the location isn’t very busy, or that Australians tend to prefer the sweeter, creamier tastes of North Indian curry, I’m not quite sure. However, if you’re in the mood for something different, I recommend giving these guys a try — it’s definitely an interesting change from stock standard butter chicken curries.
