Gemtree Cellar Door

A fantastic start to our wine tour, Gemtree cellar door really was… well…a gem!
This was a great location to start our day as the staff were friendly and knowledgable, talking us through their wine selection with plenty of quirky details and gusto! Their thorough knowledge allowed us to start the day with plenty of info ready to take to following venues. The wines were all superb and I certainly didn’t leave empty handed! Although it was a chilly summers day when we visitied, I can see this being a fantastic place to soak up the sun with a few drinks in hand — their balcony area has a great view and there’s even a playground to keep any children tagging along happy. Check out this gorgeous little winery — well worth a stop in!

Off Kangarilla Road in McLaren Flat is this gem of a cellar door. Tuck away from the main drag of McLaren Vale is always a plus for me (= no bus loads of tourists/hen’s wine tours). The vista is just so beautiful & relaxing and the box full of toys (AND a playground) was one of the two reasons that brought me here.
The other reason is for the biodynamic wines of course. Well balanced, well made and unpretentious wines at the right price and environmental friendly — that makes me feel good and the reason I became a member when I was still living in NSW. I was so pleased to finally visit this reasonably new sustainable cellar door. We were greeted with warmth and friendliness. The wines were explained in an approachable manner and my kids were not just tolerated but welcomed.
The kids & I enjoyed the customised regional platter on the deck for lunch and the spread was very generous. Extra bread was offered which we turned down as we were stuffed! Wines by the glass can also be purchased.

Gemtree is certainly worth a visit with or without kids in tow. Explore the wetlands ecotrail and a coffee after.
