Great Location and indoor decorations. The menu includes a wide variety of selections. I tried the traditional Bouillabaisse which was really good, fresh, and tasty. The service was excellent too. Overall, it was a great experience though i won’t be considering going back soon for lunch.

staying across the road at Westin Melb. Dinner time with colleagues. We all ordered mains. Food came quickly. Slow braised beef cheeks were hearty and satisfying. Price in low $ 30s. Colleagues had gnocchi and sea food stew. Enjoyed the Parisian atmosphere. Parking may be difficult to come by if not staying or working around the area.

This place looks the part like something off a Parisian sidestreet. The express lunch is good value at $ 35, although nothing outstanding. The duck confit was quite nice although could have used a sauce for the duck, the bean and vegetable base was original and different but again not outstanding. The beef was excellent but at $ 41.50 was a small portion. We also tried the crème brûlée and the orange and walnut cake — again nothing outstanding especially considering the price. Would rather go to PM24 or France Soir — same prices and better food.

C’est magnifique! Goat’s cheese soufflé, crumbed calamari followed by seafood bouillabaisse and eye fillet, finished off with the pear tartine and almond ice cream(an absolute must). All this complimented by a beautiful wine selection from a comprehensive list. I can’t fault the service — friendly, polite and attentive, and the atmosphere took me back to the restaurants tucked away in the back streets behind Luxembourg Gardens, Paris. Bistro D’orsay is also over the road from the bright lights of the theatre on Collins st which gives it an added Moulin Rouge touch. This was a truly wonderful experience from start to finish. Do yourself a favour and go.

The atmosphere of this place was absolutely amazing. All of the staff give off a fantastic vibe and were diligent throughout the entire evening. They made sure our order went through quickly as we were booked in for a show at the regent theatre. Even though it was a quaint menu, it did offer great variety. I had the goats cheese soufflé as an entrée which was spectacular I must say. As a main I had the duck which was beautiful and cooked perfect. The only disappointment of the evening was the desert. I had the pear tartan which was just a touch too sweet. The person I was with ordered a pineapple dish which was covered in extremely bitter sherbet which ruined the dish. Otherwise the night was fantastic I must say. I will be back next time I’m in Melbourne.

Okay, so Bistrot D’Orsay is the kind of place your nanna will love. She will strain through her glasses to admire the painted trompe l’oeil ceilings and be chuffed that it’s just a few short steps away from the Athenaeum Theatre, and across the street from the Regent Theatre, so she won’t be late to her Tuesday matinée. But there’s a lot for the non-nanna to like about Bistrot D’Orsay, too. Namely, the best crème brulee in Melbourne. I’ve been stopping by D’Orsay for a late night coffee and dessert for years now, and the crème brulee has never failed me. It’s light, creamy and sweet, and takes just one firm sharp tap to crack the top. Oh how I love the sound of the brulee breaking! If you fancy a whole meal at D’Orsay you’ll find the mains as equally delicious. The French/Italian menu has all the classics that both you and nanna will love — boeuf bourgiugnon, seafood linguini and a juicy lamb shoulder to name a few, and the execution is always perfect. At lunchtime D’Orsay features a set menu of two courses and a glass of wine for $ 85, however if you do the math it’s not the best bang for your buck. I say go the a la carte, and skip the entrée in favour of dessert.

On Collins Street it is hard to choose a place for lunch or dinner with the extensive list of bars, cafes and restaurants. Bistrot d’Orsay sits next to the Athenaeum Theatre and is well worth stopping at for lunch or dinner. From the moment you enter the restaurant, to the point when you haul yourself to your feet after eating beautiful European cuisine, the staff are fabulous. Friendly and confident they look after your experience without hovering and intruding on your experience. The restaurant favours a mix of French and Mediterranean flavours. Smooth crème brûlée and fresh pasta make it the perfect destination for a filling and enjoyable meal. The last time I went I had bouillabaisse and twice cooked duck leg with sweet potato and celeriac purée, sautéed silverbeet and roasted pear jus. Both were exceptional. Like all classic bistros there is a set lunch menu available: 2 courses and a glass of premium wine for only $ 35 dollars. Great value for money for a lunch meeting or date, the set menu boasts some wonderful dishes like a classic French onion soup, and orecchiette with asparagus, pea, ricotta and mint. Bistrot D’Orsay delivers on many levels and has all the necessary parts to make a fabulous restaurant and a satisfying meal.
