So there are 2 Breath Wellbeings… and I went to the wrong studio but the staff was very helpful and quickly directed me to the correct one. I am currently signed up for Bodypass which gives you access to different group fitness classes all over Melbourne and I heard what beautiful studios Breath Wellbeing has so I had to check it out. This Breath Wellbeing is on Little Collins and you need to take the elevator upstairs to reception. Doors open and you are greeted by friendly staff and after filling our registration, you can have some tea and fruit. The change room is once again a simple room with a curtain but they have separate ones for male and female and toilets are located separately at the back of the studio. There are no lockers so you can leave important belongings with reception or take it into class. I tried the Level 1 reformer class… what is this contraption? A reformer is a pilates machine that you generally lie, sit, or kneel on with different springs and ropes for you to exercise with. The class was at a relatively gentle pace and the instructor helped correct posture and coached well. Even though I was not sweating in this class, my muscles did ache during and slightly after and I enjoyed learning how to use the reformer. Overall the studio was clean and staff helpful and I will be going back to try the reformer again.

I first started Pilates after a back injury and found it to be a great way to rehabilitate my back, while building strength. There was also the added bonus of getting a bit of mental relaxation at the same time, as you need to concentrate on correctly holding your body and using muscles in a very particular way. A year later, I changed studios and wanted to focus more on fitness. That’s where Breathe came in. I used their 2-week introduction offer, tried a combination of studio and reformer classes and a number of different teachers and was convinced by the end that this was the place for me. I now attend four times a week and really look forward to my time here. Each teacher’s reformer class is different, and I like the diversity in styles and personalities. The online booking system for classes is efficient, though you need to remember to book early as classes are popular and book out well in advance. Everyone who works here is super friendly and they really care about you as a student. Don’t rush and stay for a cup of tea and piece of fruit after your class if you can. A sanctuary in the heart of the city, perfect for CBD workers.
