Touristy restaurant, wouldn’t recommend anyone to come. Cups were dirty, tea was almost like hot water and the Peking duck we order were like less than a quarter. Honestly, even ChinaBar across the street does a better job,(yeah haters gonna say its a different kind of cooking etc) but isn’t Asian food supposed to be ‘value’? But well as I always preach, let your tastebuds do skepticism justice, for better or for worse.

Pretty average and loud. The food was nothing special, the duck was tasteless.

It makes me sad writing such a poor review but this establishment was quite the disappointment. The girl ushering us to our table didn’t want to be there. I witnessed her do several other things to other patrons but I won’t mention them because they weren’t specific to my experience. We were seated and weren’t given menus for the longest time til a waiter came over and asked what we wanted. I honestly thought I’d ignore all this and let the food be the redeeming feature but sadly I was to be let down. The steamed prawn dumplings I was so excited to tuck into were chewy with crunchy yellow pieces inside. The pork spare ribs my date ordered were overcooked and dry. I noticed there wasn’t any soy sauce at the table so when I asked the waitress for some, she glared at me and then returned to the table 10 mins later. Was it something I’d said? I was extremely underwhelmed by my chicken & cashew dish — one I didn’t finish eating due to concerns with the chicken. The rice might have been nice but it never showed. Oh how I didn’t want this to be the case! With a long standing tenancy of over 25 years in one of the best spots in Chinatown, this place could be amazing but I felt everything was tired and needed some new energy. For $ 100 spent on 4 dishes &2 lemonades, I was hoping for a lot more.

Came here 2 nights in a row! Duck the first night(a little tip, if you like the legs ask for the carcus) second night was just as good. Pan fried dumplings are amazing as are the steamed dumplings! Sooo tasty calamari entrée is yummy also.

If possible I would give worse than one star. Sorry to begin with such a negative review, however this is the first time I have had to give a one star review. Da Hu Duck Restaurant advised us of our time to enter on not one, but three occasions. Every time we were sent back to wait on the street. We bought a bottle of wine from the local store as we waited, and as we proceeded to enter, they turned us away, stating that no alcohol was allowed on the premises(disregarding the sign they had advertised). We discarded the bottle and proceeded to enter — although by the time this 30 seconds had past, we were no longer on the reservation list. Please be advised not to come here if you have plans to act either socially or professionally.

I love Peking Duck. Dahu’s Peking Duck is reasonably priced for what you get, but sadly that is all it was when I went for the first time. Yes, the Pancakes were perfectly thin and plentiful. And the Duck was tender, if a little cold. But the spring onion shavings looked a little tired. And the cucumber slices didn’t glisten. Sadly that’s not the most disappointing part: they bring all of the bits out on a plate and just leave it to you to put it all together. No one-handed dexterous assembly at your table like I remember(in the good old days) at Ease Garden(in everyday Dandenong). It just didn’t feel as special as it should. You may love calculating how to make the various components appropriately match the un-numbered pile of pancakes, but not me. Given Dahu ‘specialises’ in Peking Duck, I just expected they’d present it with a little of the sort of respect this dish once had. And maybe a little more crisp in the skin while we are at it. On the other hand, I’ve never felt like I’ve had my fill of Peking Duck before, but here I did. I was full on Peking duck without spending like an Emporer. So would I come back? Yes. But I’m still looking for something better in the mean time.

What do you order at a Peking duck restaurant?! Peking duck of course! We were certainly not disappointed with our choice of ‘half a duck’(perfect for two people) at only $ 26. We also ordered some salt and pepper squid(entrée serving) and a small serve of steamed dumplings! All the food was delicious, the staff were super friendly and the end bill — for the huge amount of food that we ended up with was dandy! Very authentic and an enjoyable meal all round!

This business has been there for the past 25 years and both the owner and the cheffs have not changed. The Good: Great customer service. Very friendly staff. Great dumplings(very authentic) Great Shanghai steam soup buns(comparable to HuTong) Delicious food overall. Not too crowded, very quite(I went for lunch). The bad: Slightly pricy but worth it if you know what you like.

There seems to be no consistency at Da Hu Peking Duck restaurant. Sometimes when you order the duck they’ll prepare it all for you; other times you’re left labouring over the pancakes and the hoi sin sauce, tasked to doing it all yourself. And if there’s one thing I don’t enjoy about pseudo ‘fine dining’, it’s inconsistency. The menu here, along with the music, is authentic. Extensive and diverse menu of Chinese dishes and the quality of the food is pretty high. The customer service of the staff is also authentic, but not in the good sense. I’ve found that the larger the group you bring to Da Hu, the better off you’re treated. Four or more people & you get the full service; just you, or two people, and it seems like they think you aren’t really worth their time of day. Also, this place is ~covered~ in mirrors. If you don’t like looking at your self or suffer from eisoptrophobia, Da Hu is a place to avoid. Overall, I’d probably come back here if I were in a group — you’ll be treated well by staff and the menu is diverse enough for a broad audience of people(assuming they like Chinese food, naturally). However, if I were just dining with a friend, there are a lot of other restaurants in Chinatown I’d be sure to try out first.

It’s all about the duck. Dahu Duck is no fuss, casual dining. It’s not about the environment, it’s about the food; specifically Peking Duck. The waiter will come to your table, carve the duck, roll the first pancake for you, and then leave the rest up to you. Plenty of fixings are provided and you can roll your own until you can eat no more. it’s a delight! It’s not quite up to the standard of the genuine article in Beijing but it’s pretty darn good.
