I walked up to the counter coughing away with Melbourne’s dry winds and was immediately asked if I would like some water to ease the throat. This simple human empathy continued as I asked about the lunch special options which included a combination of focaccia, salads and chips. Did I say focaccia? This focaccia wasn’t like any focaccia I’d had before. It was light and fluffy and not heavy and filling. And it was filled with a beautiful pulled pork and coleslaw mix that just touched the spot for lunch. I had a side of chips which took a while to cook but again the staff were incredibly friendly and offered me a free coffee to make up for the wait. Warm staff, excellent food that left you wanting more. I’ll be back. Oh and they are located in one of Melbourne smoke-free laneways which adds to the outdoor dining joy.

I’ve returned a couple of times after my first Fugazza outing. Their focaccia bread is what you’re here for. I tried the soup once and while it wasn’t bad, it wasn’t great either. Service has always been friendly and prompt and a half or full focaccia is relatively comfortable to eat on the run if that’s your thing. The shop itself is no frills but neat and tidy. Fillings are clean and fresh and made to order; no pre-prepared, reheated junk here. Given all this the pricing is fairly competitive too. At just over $ 10 for most full sized Fugazza’s its all pretty reasonable. Go Fugazza yourself. Hold the soup.

I’m convinced, and I haven’t even tried the coffee, even when there is coffee at the great price of $ 2.90. It’s a small space, but it makes the most of what it has, using a fancy machine that turns sandwiches into awesome time. There is, as one would come to expect a Espresso machine here, and a good one at that. Not much seating, but a roomy kitchen for the space, delivering a great qaulity product. The definite way to get your sandwich on!

Love this place — nothing like any focaccia you’ve ever had before in your life. They make the bread in-house, it’s light and fluffy with a little sweetness from the honey they add — each focaccia topping is sensational, using locally-sourced produce from the owner’s family butcher and the coffee is fantastic. A real winner. If you’re anywhere near the CBD, you must drop in for lunch.
