Delicious small burgers and has a variety of sauces for your fries. Such a good snack to satisfy midnight cravings after a night out. Quick and cheap

We have eaten burgers and fries from here twice this week(we are on holiday). Been to both the one outside Flinders station and one further up Swanson. Burgers are nice, but not fantastic. Like that it’s vegetarian. Customer service was OK, not overly friendly… just doing their job. Order of 2 mini burgers, 2 large burgers and 1 large fries took about 10mins at 4.30pm on a Wednesday afternoon. Kids enjoyed«chicken» burgers, less the mustard, however even though specifically not requested, all burgers were less mustard.

Worst fries ever. Far too oily. Whenever I think of this place I think grease. The burgers, while being vegan, are kind of boring and mushy. I think there are better options out there, especially if you aren’t vegan.

!!! LOTF is definitely not located at the train station anymore, this needs to be updated !!! It was our last night in Melbourne and after having our heart broken by the Meatball & Wine Bar(which stopped doing the full dinner menu the minute we walked in), we headed back to our hotel on the other side on the CBD. However, the gods of eating out decided that that night we were not meant to get home hungry and sneakily lured us into the little Lord of the Fries place. We shared the large canadian(I think?) fries which was basically their version of poutine and boy, was it good. Crispy, well-browned fries literally DRENCHED in gravy(I didn’t even mind it being from a packet…) and tangy cheese — salty, savoury and moreish. I was actually tempted to get another serving, that’s how good it was. In Auckland, there’s a place called Federal St Deli and LOTF’s poutine is on par with theirs even though it’s like 60% of the price. The staff were all friendly and gave me a big glass of tap water without hesitation when I asked for one, which, for some reason, causes issues at some other fast-food places. The only thing that kind of upset me was the fact that they had sweet potato fries on the menu(which is what I originally intended to order), but didn’t actually have any available. Why have them on the menu? The staff’s response was a bit confusing and revolved either around the sweet potatoes being a seasonal item or the supplier not supplying sweet potatoes anymore… I reckon they weren’t quite sure themselves as to why they were out of sweet potato fries lol. Oh well. I’m sure they would be amazing.

I don’t generally review fast food, coz it it is what it is. Food. Fast. Generally flavourless. But it hits your needs, when needed. Unfortunately LOTF at flinders station left me both underwhelmed by the food, but outraged at the all most comical service I received. Upon ordering, with the most disinterested, unmotivated couldn’t-give-a-s$@” cashier I questioned the wait time. Considering it’s located at a train station(ANDPEOPLEAREWAITINGFORTRAINS) I didn’t think it was too much to ask. I was wrong. I was not told a time. Now, I didn’t need an exact second, but a rough guide would be nice. «I don’t want you to get angry if it’s longer than I say»… Right. Ok. Maybe have to call the fam to celebrate Xmas here at Fliderst st, coz who knows(the people who work tiger sure as hell don’t) how long I’ll be there. …15 mins later… I’d seen a bag of fries sitting there. And sitting there. And sitting there. 5 mins later, my hot dog was chucked in. Yep, on top of soggy, cold fries(lord of the fries???). I asked for new fries, and they were provided. Look, maybe they were under the pump, maybe 4 people had called in sick, or it they had there Christmas party the night before. Who knows? I’m not turned off, so will try again. One day.

I had very high expectations from this place. As a connoisseur of all things potato product, I really hold my starches to an elevated level. And although it was damn tasty whilst I wharfed it down one cold, cold Melbourne night, it left me feeling a bit disappointed. What I speak of, my friends, is the large Texas chili cheese fries. Super greasy, almost double-fried potato? Check. Over processed nacho cheese in unnatural shades of orange?. Check. Chili? Fail. Maybe I just got the bottom of the stew pot, but my chili was so reduced, so globby, and SO salty(and believe you me, I love me some salt) that I knew that while it was good while it lasted, I probably wouldn’t be yearning for it a second time around. Still, I think you should try it and make your mind up for yourselves, as it is a bit of an institution, and they do, contrary to popular belief, serve things other than fries.

It’s pretty impressive that they can make huge fast food menu out of veggies. It’s definitely a recommended place for fast food lover or vegetarians who crave for fast food taste. They provide two sizes for the burgers, so if you never tried it before, go for MINI burger! The people work there are quite friendly actually, unlike their monstrous neighbour lol I would love to try the breakfast menu but never seems to make it everytime. So far I have tried two burgers only, would like to try some more :)

Do not eat here. The burger meat tastes like mystery meat at best. If you want a burger in melbourne you need to go to huxtaburger. The prices are similar but you will be much happier at huxtaburer.

I used to go here a lot for the fries but mainly the different sauce options they have as I love sauce on well anything! In attempts at being healthier I cut down my addiction, recently I have had a friend raving about their burgers. I never thought to try burgers at a fries joint but he kept on and on about the amazingness. Today I tried the original mini beef burger and WOW! Deliciousness in each and every bite and I really should of gotten a bigger burger! Safe to say this will be a go to burger place and I will be making sure all my friends are aware of the simple amazingness!

Show me one person who does not like a potato and I will find you a unicorn in AU. The folks at Lord of the Fries know the potato! You have a choice of three sizes of their FRESHLYMADE French fries and the beauty is they are cooked without the animal fat and harsh ingredients you may find at other places in the city. As LOF is vegetarian friendly, it is a gem for my partner and I. Peep in mind, the large portion will serve you and your partner easily with some to spare. The different sauces are available but why ruin such a wonderful fry? Get the sauce on the side or try some tartar sauce at home:) WOW! Keep in mind, LOF also serves burgers(albeit veggie) and I believe hot dog as well. I will be hitting up LOF each time I want to indulge in potato heaven!

Chips are an institution. People take their chips really seriously. Restaurants and even Birds Eye have followed. In the 90’s it was all about the wedges. The noughties was beer battered chips. Then there was the rise of the sweet potato chip. And now, dude food is all the rage, so piling hot chips with chilli con carne or Poutine style with shredded cheese curds and gravy. In the USA, zucchini chips seem to be the chip of the minute, something I really hope makes the leap to Aus, especially with ranch dipping sauce! King of the chips in Melbourne, as voted by the Herald Sun in 2012, Lord of the Fries is equally well known for their burgers, breakky buns, and hot dogs as they are all 100% vegetarian, with many vegan options. I’m a long time fan of LOTF, their American diner style burgers and interesting monthly chip sauces. New to the menu are some deluxe chip toppings including Canadian poutine, Mexican chilli and an Indian themed option. The latter two I have tried on previous visits and found a very naughty but nice treat. On this visit I try something old and something new. The old being two mini burgers and some signature fries. On this trip I opt for a kid sized #2 chunky cut fries($ 3.45) with the sauce of the month, Dubai Pumpkin Dip($ 1.25) made from pumpkin, herbs, spices and olive oil. It is richly coloured, sweet, tangy & spiced and goes well with my chunky cut and crisp hot chips. The chips come unsalted unless you ask for it which is a nice touch and for my palate, with the sauce needs no extra seasoning. The kids size comes in a cute cardboard box and is quite big serving. The mini, vegan version of the Big Mark(geddit?) burger on a whole meal bun($ 4.45), with LOTF patty, cheese, pickles, onion, lettuce and the special«Big Mac» style sauce. The patty’s are crumbly rather than solid like Fry’s frozen burgers, and quite moist inside. The mini vegan version of the Original burger($ 4.45) on a wholemeal bun with LOTF patty, cheese, pickles, onion, lettuce, mayo, mustard and ketchup has classic hamburger flavour. The mini size is little, but is slightly larger than an average slider. They are tasty and feel naughty. The new is two of the new brekky buns. The New York brekky bun in mini size($ 3), featuring a LOTF patty, hash brown, vegan cheese, onion, mustard and BBQ sauce. This is the naughtiest of the lot, owing to the hash brown(my secret weakness at breakfast time) but given it’s mini size is good for a treat. In keeping with the mini theme, I also sample the Tibet mini vegan brekky bun, filled with tofu«egg», cheese, mayo and mustard. The brekky buns rather than being English muffin style have cute shiny rounded little buns. This is a winner, being juicy and flavoursome. LOTF is a worthy naughty treat. Thank goodness they aren’t in Adelaide yet or they may become a more regular habit!

What I really love about this place is that it’s veggie! I can order anything on the menu! Hurrah! The chips are pretty good, try the italian sauce. Burgers are pretty big(but to be fair they should be for the price), I would recommend adding soy bacon and fresh tomato for the extra $ 1.50. Perfect for late night veggie takeout, but perhaps other places would be better for lunch time.

Not bad, however I fail to see what all the hype is about. I ordered the original burger with classic fries just to see what it’s all about. The prices are reasonable though with good value and they are open late which is always a plus. Even still there are plenty of other food choices that I would rather check out in Melbourne. The burger«meat» was nothing all that special even though it’s supposed to be vegetarian. The fries fared better for me, but still no reason to come here just for the fries over going somewhere else.

For me, no trip to Melbourne is complete until I make my way over to Elizabeth Street to visit Lord of the Fries. Everyone loves great hot chips and the Lord of the Fries has been doing it longer and better than most. I am always amazed that this place is a Veagan dining spot, but it makes it a slightly healthier alternative when eating there. On my recent trip, I made my way over, got my fries and everything was right in the world again

The garlic aioli sauce had no garlic flavor at all. In fact, it didn’t have much flavor at all. It didn’t add much. And the fries were really oily. On the positive side, the small portion was pretty big. But I ended up throwing almost half of them out. Ugh. And the mini burger had too much sauce and was also really greasy, and just didn’t taste good. Very disappointing. The guy who served me was nice, though.

My friends and I stumbled upon this joint during our trip to Sydney. We wanted some French fries and decided to give this place a try. It was probably one of the BEST French fries we had! And we loved that they had different sauces for us to check out!

Despite hearing so much about LoTF, I was sadly disappointed when I finally tried it. The fries tasted bitter and the satay sauce and BBQ sauce also weren’t very nice. My burger(I had the Parma burger) was pretty tasty, though. LoTF gets props for being a widely available veg takeaway option, and I certainly would not complain if they came to Brisbane! It’s just a shame that for Lord of the«Fries», their chips weren’t good at all! Hopefully it was just a one-off(well, twice-off…) I would certainly recommend any veg*ns try it, if only because it’s unlike anything else we have in Australia, but I was unimpressed. Hopefully it’ll be better next time.

On a recent trip to Melbourne I may or may not have bought takeaway here on two occasions. Sounds a bit lame, but it’s one of the things I most look forward to when visiting Melbourne. The good: * The Original and Lord’s burgers are absolutely scandalously mouthwatering. Veganised, of course. * The fries are good but not great by any stretch. I like the little wooden forky things you get. The bad: * Service at Elizabeth Street is crap. Nobody seems to ever have any sense of organisation, it’s a bunch of people running around like headless faux-chooks, taking forever to fulfil simple orders. Went there on Saturday night, it was quite busy as you’d expect. Staff were dashing around all over the place trying to do a little of everything. This is where division of labor shines. Give each staff member a station; don’t let them move from it.(I’m going to email them about this.) * They need more vegan sauces, especially creamy ones. ++++ VEGANFRIENDLINESS — Lots of options. One of the few places vegans can spoil themselves with fatty junk food!

Lord of the fries has various locations around Melbourne. It’s meat free, which is quite amazing, when you eat a burger. «Is this Burger really meat free? «Yes?» «Really?» «Yes.» These are good in their own right, but most people would come here for the fries. Which are actually closer to Chip’s normally detest mountains of various toppings drowned on my fries, or in this case chips, simply because the things are so darn tasty in their own right. Fries are awesome tasty Delicious-ness Who wants to add extra flavours to something already awesome, which you can eat straight and still be amazed. But I digress. I haven’t really tried most of the toppings, as I avoid things added to chips and most don’t appeal. I abscond from Tomato sauce on chips at all costs. Seriously, what a horrible way to absolutely ruin chips. Not that this crime is committed here. But alas, neither am I fan of the belgiam/amsterdam styled mayonnaise topping. it just doesn’t quite work. But there is good. No animal fats or tallow’s used, such a rare thing to see an alternative. The chips and gravy, boy am I a sucker for these, are so darn good. Such a guilty pleasure, particularly when you add cheese as well, but oh so good! Anyway, back to the point; Lord of the fires has lots of options and styles for its chips and toppings, 3 serving sizes, a range of burgers and some other snack options on the side. Cold drinks too, of course.

Verdict: It would seem as though Melbourne has mastered just about every cuisine in the book, and while I’m you can find a great-tasting affordable American-style burger in the city, Lord of the Fries probably shouldn’t be your first stop. Looking for a real burger? Try Grill’d in St. Kilda: Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere? As far as service and logistics are concerned, LotF doesn’t disappoint. With an easy to follow dual counter system and a friendly and knowledgeable staff, this is pretty straightforward. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? The great thing about a burger is that regardless of where you are in the world, you pretty much know what you’re getting yourself in to, and even with«premium» burger establishments sweeping the globe,(think«The Counter» in the US and«Ultimate Burger» in the UK) it’s not difficult to get a good bang for your buck. With this in mind, I was pretty anxious when I forked over $ 15 for a full sized«Spicy Burger» with a side of Fries. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed, and this picture might explain why: Upwards of $ 10 for a standard patty(that didn’t even appear to be made to order?) No thanks. No Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? You’d think that if you’re paying a premium for a burger and you’re not receiving massive portions, the cost is certainly in the quality right? Again, this wasn’t the case, and I was left disappointed with the quality of my burger. Besides it’s mediocre size, each mouthful consisted mostly of airy bun, and the toppings were bland. As for the fries, while they were advertised as «double dipped», mine were still quite soft, and the Chili Mayo was just plain gross(emphasized by the fact that I watched the employee just squirt it out of a standard Ketchup bottle). Disappointing. No Stars Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Having received little bang for my buck and a mediocre meal at the end of the day, I can’t say I’d return to Lord of the Fries. It’s a good concept, but LotF needs to master their technique quite a bit. No Star Granted.

I’m giving this place a 2 stars because when it comes to Lord of the Fries in general, this place is just not up to par. Don’t get me wrong — I dig my Lord of the Fries just like the next guy. However, if I’m looking for my chips craving, I’d head over to the Melbourne Central branch instead. Location: It is on the corner of Elizabeth Street and Flinders Street, next to Walker’s Hotdogs. There is absolutely no seating area so this is pretty much purely just a takeaway and it also kinda fucking sucks waiting for your food out in the blistering cold. Also, given it’s location and opening hours, prepare for loads of hungry and drunk scumbags at nighttime getting their own chip fix. Even as a small takeaway, it could get crowded and rowdy. Customer Service: A smile or two would be nice really. In contrast to Melbourne Central’s Lord of the Fries, these employees seem to never be happy. I asked for extra sauce on my chips, and their version of extra sauce was about 2 more small squirts. Lol. Okay. Also be wary — this branch isn’t that quick when chugging out the meals. Food: Like any other Lord of the Fries, the food is admittedly great. I recommend the«Parisian» Sauce to go with your chips — Aioli & Garlic Mayonnaise and it’s consistently yummy. Whatever’s in their secret delicious chips recipe, it’s damn good. — Although the food is pretty much the same as any other Lord of the Fries out there — wonderfully delicious, it’s still not a very good branch. The customer service, long waits, and scummy demographic makes me question why I shouldn’t just head over to another location in the CBD. The chips are good, but they still have a lot of work to do.
