Third strike — they’re out. Pathetic vegan service, eggs come from animals you morons. We are not lepers(and even if we were) treat us with respect. Never to be visited again.

Chilli? Ah no thank you. Not sure how my no chilli request turned into a slam of chillis on my banh mi. Fairly poor service and food quality. Won’t be returning here again.

No, no, no. This is really not very good at all fast food. Go to Mekong, go to MissChu, go to Phở Dzung, go to that chichi place on Russell near Collins that looks like a ripoff and probably is(haven’t been) — but avoid Roll’d. Limp flavors, uninviting interiors, everything plastic and non-recyclable(even if you order in). Bleh.

I love Vietnamese food. I grew up with Tän and Phôüg Nguyen. Many a Sunday lunch was spent munching on quickly scissor snipped deep fried spring rolls on a bed of soft, seasoned rice noodles. Other times, I was given a massive bowl of phô, and told EAT ! Some times I would take around the floppy is «where in the world is Carmen Santiago» game and we were the boss of that. Oh yeah! I’d heard the hype. Lines out the door peps camping out three nights before(I lie about the latter, and the former, or is that the previous? I don’t know.) Let’s get to the food. Coz hey, that’s why your here.(Unless you are stalking me– which is not cool — please stop now) it’s good. Not great. The idea though is great. Good food and fast. And that’s were I leave it coz end of the day, it’s cheap and good fast food. Yes I used the term ‘fast food’ coz that’s what it is. But I will still be back. On the fifth Friday each month. Check out Footscray or Richmond if you want REAL Vietnamese food. If you’re in a rush, walking buy– it’s worth a try

Fresh, quick and easy. Still a winner across in Goldsbrough Lane in the City. Not necessarily pure and authentic Vietnamese, but not westernised beyond recognition either. Love love love anything that has the pork and crackling(Bun salad and Banh Mi rolls). I’ve not tried the Phở but word of mouth tells me that it is lovely and delicious. No surprise they have branched out and about around town.

I want to write this for Roll’d that is in Flinders Lane that has just opened up. This was my first Vietnamese experience with Phở. It was really delicious. I had the beef & chicken combo phở and then added a little Hoisin into it and for me it was great. The line looks long but it definitely moves quickly. And even waiting for orders took us no more than between 5 – 10 minutes. Happy Im heading to Vietnam next week so needed to start exploring their wonderful food.

Solid. This is «fast food» at its best. The ingredients are fresh and the preparation is good. I had two soldiers — the pork and shrimp and the bbq chicken — and a cup of mixed phở. One soldier and the cup of soup would have been enough, but I wanted to try as much of the menu as possible.

Don’t let the queue put you off, they’re really efficient. There’s been quite a bit of hype about their rice paper rolls, and it lives up to it. Now, rice paper rolls have been around for ages, but I’ve always found them bland, uninteresting. It was the sort of food I would buy at uni towards the end of the day when people were trying to get sell them off for half price. The«soldiers» like they call them at Roll’d however, are a different story. With fillings like soft-shell crab and avocado, paired with a chilli mayo dipping sauce, you just can’t go wrong. Fresh, tasty, and I guess pretty healthy too. Aside from the rice paper rolls, they also make some pretty good Banh Mi, including a roast pork and crackling rendition. The classic vietnamese pork roll is still my favourite though. Their rice noodle salad with pork spring rolls is worth checking out too, as is the phở on a cold winter day. Roll’d have certainly taken the Melbourne lunch scene by storm. They’ve opened a second, larger store not even a year after launching their first one.

The best way to describe this place: refreshingly satisfying. Roll’d does Vietnamese food about as good as my mum’s authentic stuff, and ever since my mum decided that at 28 years of age I’m now too old for her to pack my lunch for work, this place has become a regular spot for me whenever I need to get my Viet on. The soft shell crab and avocado soldiers and lemongrass beef bun makes a terrific and *affordable* combination.(I starred *affordable* because they recently raised the prices and surreptitiously so, otherwise I’d have given them 5 stars. I guess they are learning from the bankers, accountants, lawyers and vultures that surround them on Collins st… Why, back in my day, soldiers used to cost only $ 2.90…) All jokes aside, this place is remarkable because of how efficiently it is run. Despite the seemingly overnight 10% price rise, the crowds continue to beat down the door like a bunch of crack addicts at 2am and there’s never a long wait. You can also get iced lemon tea for $ 1.50 with a meal so you’ll get a decent feed for under $ 10 which is ridic for this part of town and hugely redeeming. And like I said before, it’s refreshingly satisfying. There’s been enough written about the massive line by other Unilocalers already but whenever I’m passing by this joint, I always think of a random combination of the following four thoughts. 1. «I wish I thought of this business.» 2. «I wish I could invest in this business.» 3. «Oh crap, I’m now at the front of the line and there’s a YUGE line behind me and now I’m under so much pressure so I better place my order quick! What to do, what to do??? Ummm… lemongrass beef please!» 4. «I can’t believe they got away with putting a sweat-shop right in the middle of town.» Yeah that’s right, if you walk past before 11am when they open you’ll see a whole bunch of Vietnamese people inside diligently rolling away those soldiers full on sweat-shop styles. Ahh, takes me right back to my childhood! Finally, I’m going to make a declaration that I will eat at this place every day between April 25th — 30th for every year this place remains open. You see, the city will be full of ANZACs on the 25th and April 30th marks the anniversary of the fall of Saigon and the end of the Vietnam War, so surely there cannot be a more appropriate time of the year to eat a Vietnamese soldier…(I’m allowed to make these jokes because I’m Vietnamese)

ERMERGHADDDDDGETINMAHBELLEH. The lined freaked me out to begin with, but as the other reviewers have mentioned it moves lightening fast. For me, soft shell crab and avocado rolls can not be passed by. NOM. Everything is so fresh and tasty, I’d go back everyday if it wasn’t a hike from my office. And here’s the great news, one opening in Hardware Lane, a mere 2 minute walk from my office. So exciting. Guess what I’m having for lunch at least 3 times a week in the new year… RUNDON’T WALK, and then stand in line. You’re welcome.

Speedy bánh mì in the city! RIGHTON! The lines look intimidating but they move super fast and you’ll be out stuffing a tasty tasty roll in your face in no time. My favourite — the BBQ chicken with extra pickled vege, herbs and chilli!

There is always a massive line outside this little store. The name deceived me, I assumed it was sandwich wraps that the bustling queue of CBD workers craved. I did a double take when I saw a big bottle of my beloved sriracha on a table. I immediately joined the queue and was not waiting long. This place pumps out takeaway Vietnamese like nobody’s business. VIETNAMESE! YES! I was excited. A big bowl of Phở was exactly what I was craving on a chilly day. Having previously worked near Miss Chu, I love a good Vietnamese lunch. This place isn’t exactly in the same league, but it’s still damn good… and it’s not on the other side of the city to where I work! Very much looking forward to going back and trying their range of salads and«soldiers»(rice paper rolls).
