The rise of Melbourne fashion label Trimapee over recent years has been both impressive and predictable. I remember visiting the former Fitzroy store years back and thinking: yes, this is going to take off in a big way. And I’m no fashion expert. I just knew that Melbourne would fall for their men’s and women’s designs, which are, put simply, black and flowing. OK, they aren’t all black, but the focus is certainly on darker shades. And the clothes are made for layering: lots of hangy-offy bits, lots of textures, laces, capes, super-soft T-shirt fabrics that make the oversized Ts and singlets drip off you, large leather boots. Deck yourself out in this gear and you’ll look like the most stylish survivor of the apocalypse. This city store is clean and well laid out and worth seeking out inside QV(as you possibly wouldn’t walk past it otherwise). And the clothes are very affordable — think Cheap Monday prices.
