We came here to celebrate our engagement. The view was beautiful at night and we felt like VIP’s being escorted through the wine racks to the dining area. We tried the 10 course menu which was amazing and I loved that there were interactive dishes where we got to help make our deserts as they poured liquid nitrogen into our bowl. The whole experience and the food is definitely worth the price. Great place for a special occasion. We spent $ 300 each by the end of the night but I would definitely do it again. We were also provided a breakfast bag which included some tea, banana bread, a loaf of bread and muesli for the next morning.

When I planned to come to Melbourne, I checked the lists of best restaurants in Melbourne. Vue de Monde made every list. I had great expectation, and it delivered. The view is fantastic, unbelievable sunset and there was a fireworks during dinner! Atmosphere is modern, open and tasteful. Staffs are professional and polite. We did ten course and they accommodated my BF’s diet restrictions without fuss. Presentation of food was impeccable. This is definitely the place for special occasions. I would come back in a heartbeat.

Had the 10 course degustation meal for a joint birthday dinner, with drinks at the bar beforehand(has a great view and not too $$$. From the moment you enter the restaurant great service and pre dinner tasting plates. Ten course includes seven savoury, two desserts and a cheese platter. Great dining experience

What a magical«vue» from the 55th floor! Attended a beautiful intimate wedding reception celebrated at the top of the Rialto and felt very lucky to make the guest list as I know the degustation menu ranges from $ 200-$ 250 per person. Highlights: — Breathtaking terrace overlooking Melbourne. — Dessert buffet, I tried one of everything. — Professional staff polite and ready to top you up. Fancy establishment that runs like a well oiled machine.

Ok, impossibly expensive, but worth every penny. I just loved sipping Champagne while watching the sunset over Melbourne from 55th floor. The view is breathtaking, so the location of Vue De Monde is everything. The service is impeccable and they are keeping it sophisticated and exclusive. I would definitely go there again to feel that atmosphere but it’s not the place for a regular, friday night drink for me.

Went there with great expectations — did it Iive up to them — certainly did! The challenge of parking your car in the Rialto is something to be believed and then finding your way up to the ground floor to reception was a bit of fun — mind you it was the w/e and the car park is officially closed and they were doing renovations. From that point on the staff are wonderful — professional, polite, friendly but not overly familiar. The food and wine matching excellent beyond belief. 10 courses with matching wines plus coffee cheese etc superbly done over a leisurely four hour period, no rush every thing perfectly timed. At the end of the meal, satisfied, not drunk, and not bloated with food — that“s how it should be. My only comment is that they need to be careful not to over do the dishes and loose the flavour of the main ingredients which are excellent in themselves. Do your self a favour and go –its a meal you will not forget — one of life’s great dining experiences. And of course there is that unbelievable view.

If you’re looking for the perfect restaurant to take your date or to celebrate a special occassion like an anniversary, then this is the restaurant for you. My husband and I decided to order the 8 course degustation which was 200aud pp. Each course is quiet small but surprisingly it actually fills you up nicely. Vue de monde is a 360 view of the city and the view is amazing during sunset. The service is excellent and the staff are friendly. Food presentation is on point and the food was all cooked perfectly. I would definitely come back for another occassion

Just great, table are really cool(Skin) a little small to sit but it’s ok, you can see chef making your meal, and your dessert. And what a view over Melbourne just amazing. The service is really good too, sommelier was good and the cheese guy too. Is you want a short lunch or dinner don’t go it’s at least 5 hours. And if you want to book you have to do it in advance it’s always full, you understand why with this quality of services. Highly recommend to food lovers. The only down thing is the price(but it’s high quality).

Amazing food and service. Period. Our sommelier was very knowledgable and his passion for wine really shined as he was explaining the different wines to us. It was a first class experience that I will definitely look forward to the next time we visit Melbourne.

We went up to enjoy a drink before our dinner elsewhere, as we were not lucky enough to get a booking, or to be called from the wait list. We scored a window table in the bar, and enjoyed a few cocktails and a light snack while enjoying the view and the sunset. I really enjoy a cocktail that is a work of art, so Vue de Monde did not disappoint. The macadamia infused vodka martini has inspired me to make my own, and make it my signature drink at our wedding reception in Hawaii! The only thing, was the mens restroom. The urinals are a set of three that all face each other, and the centre is at about waist height. So you really have no choice but to look at the person across from/next to you and his equipment. Very strange.

Even if it’s once you must visit Vue de Monde. To start the view is amazing. You can’t fault anything food was fantastic but that is to be expected. Every aspect of this place runs so smooth. Even when you leave they give you a good bag for the morning after. If you don’t want to eat there is alway the lui bar to have some drinks and enjoy dressing up and taking in the Melbourne view.

Give yourself a treat and dine here — it is one of the great foodie experiences of the world. Right up there with Tickets in Barcelona. We dined here during our first trip to Melbourne. The presentation of entries alone is nothing short of spectacular. Be prepared, as this doesn’t come cheap or even reasonable. All your senses will be entertained. Oh, and the views are breathtaking.

Service impeccable

Finally, someone on whom I can honestly bestow the very rare 5 stars. I had been to their old premises several times, and Shannon Bennett’s inventiveness and creativity has stood out in my mind. So when the opportunity came to take a visitor from the UK here I was very pleased. A party of three we made, and off we went. Since my last visit I have been to many many MANY restaurants for degustation menus, including Quay, Marque, Rockpool, and more recently Eleven Madison Park, the US’s top restaurant and number 5 in the world, Per Se, number 10 in the world, and I can say that the meal at Vue de Monde was more enjoyable than most of the above. The whole experience was wonderful, so very formal and attentive but also pretty casual and relaxed. I know, a contradiction, but that is how it was. The décor is stunning, and the staff all friendly, relaxed and chatty, rather than seeming to have a rod stuck up their… like some other establishments. The outlook is breathtaking, we were lucky to be there just before sunset and got a lovely view. I like that we had the choice of a la carte or degustation, and then we could choose how many courses we wanted. After our last few degustation meals we had decided we were done with this format, so we were a bit hesitant, but in the end opted for 6 courses degustation. So glad we did! The sommelier was very helpful with a recommendation, and also quite chatty. Indeed after dinner I turned up at the bar next door to find he had recommended several whiskies based on our conversation, a nice touch, since their whiskey trolley is staggering in size and depth. He also was happy to give a member of the party a taste of some nice white, that we were not going to buy, but we had been discussing white wines. The food was astonishing, as was the table layout, and all the little extras that they served. The theatre with which some courses were served was fantastic, especially a small mortar with fresh herbs, then liquid nitrogen poured over, and you grind it up all misty and spitting with the pestle, then on top they drop the most beautiful cucumber sorbet. Stunning. I will not outline every course, as six plus the three or four extras would be too tiresome. Suffice to say we did not look at any course and ask WTF, nor was there anything we did not enjoy. The extras are lovely, especially the starters. All I can say, is this place restored my faith in degustation menus, which for a jaded old bloke like me is a good thing, and I thought I was beyond recovery on this frnt. Hooray! A nice touch, is they send you the menu of all you ate and drank afterwards — lovely.(Jeez, did we really drink that much!?!) Can’t say enough good things about it. Get yourself there, but be ready to drop at least 250 and up to 500 per person depending on your tastes in wine.

Vue de Monde has been on my bucket list for years now and I finally got to tick it off last Saturday. My friend and I caught the fast lift to the 55th floor of the Rialto Tower where we were greeted and escorted to a window table at the adjoining bar — Lui. The walls are floor to ceiling glass and from 236 metres up the views are panoramic. It was a perfect day — blue skies and practically no haze — so we sipped our pre-lunch drinks while looking out across the roofs of Southern Cross Station, Etihad Stadium and the Grampians in the distance. And as it was Australia Day we had the added bonus of seeing the Roulettes fly by in formation at eye level! We were shown to our table in the restaurant before we’d finished our drinks — another window seat, this time looking out across the bay. An assortment of amuse bouche arrived soon after; a little pot of apple paste mixed with something delightfully fishy and served with salt and vinegar chips, a savoury marshmallow, a little square of caramel with, once again, an unexpected hint of fish which was gorgeous, and clear circle of jelly like ravioli folded over a tiny blob of wasabi. Great start. We ordered the six course degustation which began with seared barramundi accompanied by a cylinder of thinly shaved, steamed potato garnished with caviar served, like most of the other courses(I think), by the chef who made it. Beautiful combination of flavours. We left the choice of wines to the sommelier who matched this dish with a gorgeous German Pinot. The highlights of what followed were marron tail served with a delicious dipping emulsion and the sorbet. The latter was served with a little mortar of flowers which was then doused in liquid hydrogen. As the mix bubbled away you crush it with a pestle until left with a green powder which is then folded into the sorbet. Outstanding, and one of the most inventive serving methods I’ve seen. The basic degustation cost us $ 210 per head with the option to add extra courses for $ 10 each, but after the six we’d had — plus the added extras — we were both full(I even passed on the extensive range of cheese). Matched wines was another $ 150. Great views, great service, great food.

Let me start by saying it is places like this where a simple five star system is a challenge! The service was impeccable, we were treated like royalty, yet at the same time the staff were happy to chat and even have a joke and laugh as they went about their work… The food too was great, creative without leaving you wondering why? Tasty and well proportioned considering we did the did the whole ten courses. The atmosphere was really great, we arrived just before subset and waited for our table in the bar by the window before taking our seats also by the window making for a romantic setting. Finally the inclusion if a takeaway breakfast pack was wonderfully though we were mostly too full to really take advantage if it. Wondering why only the four stars? Well even after all my gushing I am not certain if I would pay these dollars again, it was great but even still I fell the value may not be there for a repeat visit…

As soon as you walk up to reception on the ground floor of Rialto building, you know you are in for a treat. The host escorts you to one of several fancy lifts, as you walk over you notice a few people waiting in the lobby area. I assumed this was the ‘waiting area’ for the Lui bar. Walking out of 55th floor, you are greeted by a host and they ask you to take a seat in the Lui bar. Our ‘wait’ lasted for mere 5 minutes and as soon as he magically opened the door to the wall to wall wine cellar/room/walkway towards the restaurant, my jaw dropped. This was of course, the wine lover’s paradise. What else can I say about this place, Service is 5 star all the way. From a spare seat for my bag(ha!) to individual chef’s serving out and explaining their dish to you(commitment!). Food– before ordering you are treated to complimentary appetizers(4 dishes) All dietary requirement is catered for and non meat eaters still gets amazing treats. We had the 7 course degustation, not counting the palate cleanser which in this occasion was a frozen fresh flowers(micro herb?) with cucumber sorbet(complete with liquid nitrogen and self crushing of the herbs). My only complain(wha???) is that both desserts were chocolate based — now who EVER complain about chocolates? not me, but I did feel that I wish one of the dessert dish was different — maybe fruity or lighter dessert. Upon leaving, we were treated with a bag of «For the morning after” — consisting of a Brioche loaf, honey from their garden in Heidi — Bulleen, cookies, granolas, and tea. I needed a whole week to come back down to earth after such treats. Tip: If you are not a big wine drinker, Vue De Monde have a specialist tea somelier named Charlie. He will match tea to your meals or other non alcoholic drinks. His Chai tea is made himself and served with a ball of chai ice cream that melts in your tea — affogatto style, and his signature tea is heavenly — wish i can remember what it’s called :( If you have the chance to visit Vue De Monde, I recommend you take it up quickly ;)

New Heights at Vue de Monde in Melbourne, Australia Vue De Monde in Melbourne, Australia takes fine dining to new heights, literally and figuratively. This restaurant is located on the 55th floor of the city’s iconic Rialto Tower. Rarely do restaurants become successful in the three most important areas: good service, quality food and memorable ambiance. Vue de Monde easily gets a perfect«10» in all three categories. Unsurpassed Service From the minute I stepped into their private elevator, I received the royal treatment. Please bear in mind that this particular evening, I chose to dine by myself. Most restaurants would simply render me invisible because of that, but not Vue de Monde. Simply the Best Food in the World As an international traveler and fine diner, I have had the good fortune and pleasure of dining in some of the world’s best restaurants. However, when I ate at Vue de Monde, I felt as though the restaurants I have visited in the past were merely«appetizers.» Vue de Monde is the main dish when it comes to fine dining. The strategic combination of flavors, textures and aromas make the food irresistible! In addition, the head chef cleverly creates opportunities for diner participation. For example, I was served a palate cleanser where I was asked to use a mortar and pestle to grind wildflowers that were soaked in liquid nitrogen. The mixture was combined with a citrus sorbet. The result was a flavor and an experience that was out-of-this-world. I enjoyed the diner participation aspect because I wasn’t asked to do too much – yet I felt a connection between the head chef and me. I like that because it connects me with the food. The«Australia Outback» ambiance Whether it’s the kangaroo fur-covered chairs, the faux firefly lighting, or the utilitarian pebble assortment on each table – the Australian outback had a strong presence in the restaurant. Without creativity and attention to detail, recreating an outback experience on the 55th floor of the Rialto could have been disastrously garish. Instead, there is a subtle blend of elegance and pure Australiana. I would fly to Melbourne just to dine at Vue de Monde again and again.

A longtime supporter of VDM it has been interesting to observe the transition from Carlton to Little Collins and now to the Rialto, both in terms of the style of décor/venue and of the cuisine. Whilst I still miss the original teacup of Tomato Consommé(Carlton days) the latest cucumber sorbet palate cleanser is just divine. The playfulness enjoyed in the early days has been carried forward with the underlying Australiana theme. The food and service always exemplary, and those views… well. VDM is a ‘must experience’… at least once.
