This little place has two things on its menu. The first being, meat filled banh mi. There’s a choice of three variations, pork, chicken, and sardines. There’s no vegetarian option but I reckon you could ask for a meat free bun. And the second being freshly squeezed sugar cane drink. The rolls are made when you order. There aren’t any premade rolls here and there is a steady stream of people in and out of here. Ben Thanh does share its shop space with another food outlet, a fish and chip shop. It’s one shop space divided into two separate businesses and the space is very confined inside for customers of the two businesses. There is only enough room for maybe six people to stand comfortably between the counters so most people order and wait outside until called. The rolls are $ 4.00 and the sugar cane drink $ 4.40,(Jan 2014), so definitely a bargain. Tasty and filling. I chose to have chilli in my roll. It’s fresh chilli and very hot. It has no slow burn and just hits. If you’re not into chilli, opt to leave it out.
