Mirrabooka has a bad reputation, but from my observations, the shopping centre is no better and no worse than any of the other majors, like Morley or Carousel. The fashion stores, jewellers and food vendors have all been well stocked, friendly and very eager to prove that Mirrabooka is a neighbourly and safe place to shop. I’d say«watch your handbag» but how is that different to any other shopping centre in Australia?

Make sure you aware of your surroundings when visiting Mirrabooka Square Shopping Centre. Never place your handbag strap over your shoulder and never walk around holding a smart phone in the car park at night. I have had two family members robbed whilst visiting this shopping centre. One family member had her purse stolen by the usual suspects whilst she was trying to fit a pair of shoes to her toddlers feet inside Big W. The other family member was robbed of her purse by two African ladies in the car park while she was pushing her infant child in a pram. The only good thing my family has leant from these misfortunes is that the Department of Transport will waive the application fee for a stolen WA driver’s licence if the crime is reported to the police. You just have to provide the police report number in your application to have the fee waived.

mirrabooka is mirrabooka. we all know the reputation that this suburb has. the shopping centre is nice and with lots of variety… but…and there’s a but! u will have to look after ur things… just in case! and quite often u will see some drunk people waiting the bus at the front of the centre a bit poisoned. butthe place is nice and the shops are so good too.

Ahh Mirrabooka… well before I moved to Nollamara I never really had a reason to visit it and it always had a bit of a divey reputation. Since moving to the area, it’s where I do my food shopping and well I don’t really mind it. I think the fruit and veg shop is pretty good and very reasonably priced. John’s Seafood is great too. And I tend to stick to Coles over Woolies… not sure what that’s about, but I always went to Coles growing up. For me, it does the job. I wouldn’t go there to clothes shop or anything like that, but on the food shopping front, it does the job for me.

Mirrabooka doesn’t have the best reputation as a suburb and a shopping centre. It is a weird area with a mix of tiny villas and old run down houses, some from Homewest. Then it is next door and literally across the road is Dianella with million dollar house and views to the city. The shops here is another case of the shopping centre being expanded over the years. It has both big supermarkets in Coles and Woolies. Then you have Big W and Kmart for your large and cheap department stores. There is a big food court, with a lot of small independent operators as well as a Muffin Break. The food court is tired and old looking, it really could do with a revamp. Then you have a mix of speciality stores — newsagency, bakery, liquor, Retravision, Best n Less and other stores. I am not sure what is about this place, but it is the kind of place you need to keep an eye on your handbag. Oh, and be careful going to your car. Last year I had a friend who was trying to put her kid in the car and was flashed by a lovely gentleman. You will also often see the police strolling through, I think trying to prevent a problem before it occurs.

Mirrabooka– the good, the bad and the empty. Not being a shopping complex kind of person, I would struggle to give raving reviews of any such place, unless I was woo-ed with jumping castles and acrobatics but Mirrabooka was underwhelming to say the least. The entry is dark and there was a sign that caught my eye– not only the usual: no dogs, no skating, no loud music but a «no photography» icon? Maybe that’s been implemented in all major shopping centres and I haven’t noticed but this struck me as a «no fun zone.» The variety of shops is fairly substantial, but all together uninspiring. Kmarts printers were out of action and the BIG W store(which was a challenge to find due to cryptic and disappearing signage) offered no items of interest for me. Thus emphasising my thoughts that while this centre covers a lot of ground, and supports several shops(over a 100 specialty stores sounds impressive but only the bakery with pandan cake caught my eye– and subsequently eased my disappointment from this other wise fruitless expedition) however this place is a ghost town! Perhaps this was a tactical move to eliminate any boxing day sale frenzy by simply not stocking anything, but after walking around in circles and finally escaping with my cake only to see 2 police on horse back directing traffic in the car park, I’ve put Mirrabooka on the back burner. Burn after reading.
