I met my south of the river bestie Lauren, for brunch in a cute café south of the river. This one is in the middle of the southern burbs, in a beautiful old converted corner house. With an outside deck and on site parking, it really is a little haven in the midst of suburbia. There’s an all day breakfast menu, as well as a lunch menu that kicks in at midday. We chose to share a meal, and have a green smoothy and coffee each. Our avocado, Persian feta, cherry tomato and basil on sourdough toast was delicious and plenty enough for two to share. I love that the serve of avocado was very generous, with the only minor gripe being that the toast was a bit dry and brittle. Could have done with less toasting. Our green smoothies of apple, banana, spinach, chia, spirulina and lemon were really refreshing with a strong taste of banana. At $ 9.50 a pop though, they don’t come cheaply. Welcome to Perth :) Coffees were perfect — hot, strong, and not bitter or burnt. Lauren is a regular here and says the quality is consistently good. There is no table service here — you order and pay at the counter. You seat yourself and help yourself to water from the table on the verandah. There was a range of jumbo sweet and savoury muffins in the display counter, as well as a few cakes and ready made baguettes. Everything looked fresh and delicious and overall this was a pleasant experience on a lazy Sunday morning.

We(partner + 3yo child) were in the ‘hood today and I searched out breakfast options before we left. This seemed the best option(at least the best option with relatively recent, decent reviews), so we went for it. It was packed, and we took the last table available. I ordered the avocado, persian fetta, and tomato concoction on multi-grain toast, and my partner had the same. As far as consistency goes, each plate was a bit different, and I couldn’t find much(read: any) cheese on my plate until I found some in the very last bite. My partner’s had it mixed throughout the plate. The flavors were nonetheless good and seemed fresh. The coffee was average. The babycino, at $ 2.00, seemed overpriced, especially since other places in town either give them free as long as you’re buying coffee, or somewhere around $ 0.50. I’d go back again, but not before exhausting other options.

Omg … what a find! We have driven past this little café numerous times since moving into the neighborhood … and this morning being such a lovely day we decided to walk down to try it out. My partner had the ham and cheese croissant, which to make it a little different they had used some amazing tasting cheese, something to add a little flavor to the ordinary. I decided on the sweetcorn chilli and pumpkin fritters, it was fantastic! I asked them to changed to a fried egg instead of poached, as that’s what I prefer, and that was no issue at all. The salty bacon, together with sweet tomato, and the Chilli in the fritters … amazing taste sensation. So happy with this place I can’t wait to go back(and i will be) to try something else off the menu. Yippee somewhere scrumptious for breakfast to add to my list!!!

Oh Mosman Park… you continue to provide bountiful places to eat and enjoy the character our suburb oozes!!! We passed Gill Street Café whilst walking down 5th another café down on swan river today and thought we must come here one day! On arriving at the café on the river to be greeted with queues, already or rate customers and no EFTPOS.. The fiancé and I decided today would be a great day for breakfast at Gill Street… … and what a great decision it was!!! The breakfast menu is awesome… great choice of foods! Unfortunately for me the activities of the night before had meant my stomach just wanted the ham and cheese crossiant! The partner at the fritters and they were spectacular!!! Was busy but tables came available all the time… service was attentive but not overtly friendly… A great experience… and will definitely be back!!!

A terrific spot for breakfast, brunch, lunch or just a coffee! The relaxed vibe here means you can relax inside or out on the undercover deck. Choose from lots of tasty choices(for breakfast I love the sweet corn fritters) on the menus or check out the counter display containing daily delicious goodies. The staff are always friendly even when it is busy. They welcome kids and they have coloured pencils and paper to keep them busy. Great coffee, freshly squeezed juices, green smoothies and plenty of food options to keep everyone happy!

Gill St is a lovely hidden spot in the backstreets on the border between Mosman Park and Peppermint Grove(if you are not a local, this is a very good neighbourhood). The café is a sister outfit with the famous Vans Café on nearby Napoleon St, but this one comes with a more down to earth local crowd. They serve a great range of salads and pannini’s for lunch and breakfast is always a hit with the locals. A great example of a true local Perth café.

Like the Curious Case of Benjamin Button, the Gill St Café & Deli located on Gill Street in Mosman Park has evolved from the old corner deli into a young comfortable venue that has the confidence of having done it before. The café has been there for a few years and if I’m not mistaken has(had?) some relationship with Vans on Napolean Street, Cottesloe. In any case Gill St Café & Deli does great b’fast, coffee and service in the comfort of suburbia, albeit affluent suburbia. Worth a visit. You’ll be back.
