Having come down with the flu and a persistent dry cough with the inability to taste anything, a friend decided to turn to the old remedy of chicken soup and got me a take away chicken laksa soup from Dao vien, a stones throw from my place. The chicken soup laksa costs 9.80 and my friend had to pay a dollar extra for using her eftpos card(its a 30 dollar minimum??? *insert horrified face*). I opened up the plastic bag hurriedly expecting to find a large plastic bowl with creamy yellow laksa liquid with noodles, bean sprouts, chicken and veggies floating inside. To my horror, I found 2 boxes. One box contained strips of chicken and noodles and a smaller plastic container contained the laksa liquid. Did I now have to make my own laksa? I poured the laksa liquid out into a bowl and to my dismay its volume was barely equivalent to one cup. No way would this volume of liquid work with all the noodles and chicken I had been given. I guess I did have to go about making my own laksa. So I poured the liquid into a saucepan, diluted it with two cups of water, let it boil, then added the noodles and chicken and voila I had chicken soup laksa. Now for the taste — the laksa was spicy, creamy, thick(despite diluting it), flavoursome and went well with the noodles and chicken. Definitely made my throat feel better. Pros 1. Great tasting laksa. Best ive had in a while 2. Friend received take away meal within 5 minutes = Quick service Cons 1. I would not encourage getting take away from this establishment — especially if you have to do some of the food prep/cooking of the takeaway meal on your own. 2. 30 minimum eftpos limit is a rip off.

I’m always wondering why this place isn’t more crowded than it is — the food is great, the service is friendly and ok the place looks dated(but who cares when the food is great?!). Ordered phở with beef and beef balls, banh cuon with pork and prawn, garlic squid; and vermicelli with spring rolls and lemongrass pork. What a huge order. Have been looking for banh cuon everywhere and I’m glad they had it on the menu. It’s like paper rice rolls filled with pork and topped with fried onions and bean sprouts. Great texture and went well with the dipping sauce. I’ve also previously had their broken rice and boxing chicken and Vietnamese iced coffee. Give this place a shot, you would have driven by here multiple times by now. There’s free parking around the back.

My wife and I had been talking about giving the«not so good looking» vietnamese restaurant a go for about 6 months before we actually made it. I am a big fan of vietnamese cuisine and was keen to try what looked like a family owned and authentic place. Well, I haven’t been to Vietnam yet so I can really guarantee Dao Vien is 100% authentic but WHAT A YUMMYDINNER! Trust me, if you haven’t been there yet or haven’t tried their spicy stewed beef noodles… do yourself a favour and go! I had never tried something so tasty yet simple. My wife also couldn’t stop bragging about her chicken Phở! I was even surprised to see she actually ate the whole thing as she often complains about how big the Phở bowls are. I couldn’t recommend this restaurant more… in fact we are already planning to take some friends there soon to try it out. Thanks for the yummy meal.

I had read a few reviews which said it was a pleasant surprise and they weren’t wrong. I have gone past this restaurant for years in the bus and finally got to try it. The waitress was lovely and very informative. We tried a variety of dishes and they were all great. I introduced my son to the popular Vietnamese dish Phở and he was suitably impressed. It was real value for money.

Delicious Vietnamese food, great service and super affordable. We went along to Dao Vien before attending a PIAF event at the recommendation of a friend and weren’t disappointed. Four of us devoured fried vegetarian spring rolls and fresh chicken rice paper rolls. We then dug into each of our individual meals(laksa, broken rice, bbq pork with egg noodles and wontons and a spicy vegetable dish). Add some soda water and all up our bill came to a little over $ 60 and we were out in time to see the support act. Perfect.

Only discovered this hidden gem late last year and now it is a favourite lunch spot for myself and a few work pals. It’s not a very inviting place to just walk in to if you see it on the street, but do make sure to check it out if you’re in the area! You can dine in or take away, we usually go with the second choice and the service is quick and polite. I order the Meal for 1 Dry Vermicelli Noodles with Braised Beef Lemon Grass almost every time, always consistent and the flavours are great — comes with a sweet/sour vietnamese sauce to pour over and with the small price of $ 9.80 — you can’t go wrong! Their menu has a large selection to choose from and if you’re looking for something light and on the go their prawn ricer paper rolls are cheap and tasty(Under $ 3 ea). Their Bánh Cun Ch — Soft Rice Pancake with Pork Polony I haven’t tried as yet, but are an office overall favourite. It really is amazing value for money and hits the spot every time!

Perth restaurants love not having a website. I find it unbelievably irritating because you miss out on restaurants like Dao Vien unless you stumble upon them and just happen to be hungry. Website equals more business. Hop on the bandwagon people. I want to peruse your menu and know your hours, mkay? Before a night out a large group of us went to Dao Vien and had an exceptionally lovely time. With a BYO policy and an endless variety of dishes, we drank and stuffed ourselves into nirvana. The won tons, the crispy duck, the bean curd and sweet and sour chicken were are lip-smacking good. I went back for thirds and fourths and then proceed to chastise myself for my lack of willpower. With food this good, the meal isn’t over when you’re full; the meal is over when you hate yourself. I will most certainly be back.

I like going in to strange restaurants in awkward spots and ordering weird dishes. And Dao Vien is the best spot to do this. We asked the waitress what the most popular entrée was and she brought us this amazing fish dish. It was the coolest thing. I like having the kind of faith in humanity that allows me to put my faith in the friendly, but sharp Vietnamese lady who was serving us. And boy did it pay off. I don’t remember much else from the experience as the rest was pretty average dining experience but that bloody fish stuff(don’t ask me what it was) was amazing.
