What a poor experience! This is the second time I have been to Darling Supper Club and while the food is delicious, they really need to work on their timing and service. We ordered prawn dumplings, pork dumplings, kangaroo dumplings, Bao buns, Nasi goreng, pork belly and Kung Po chicken. It was a lot of food and it all arrived pretty much at the same time except for one dish. Which we had to wait 45 minutes after we had finished eating. We arrived at 6.30pm. We finished eating at 7pm. Our pork belly arrived at 7.45pm. While we understood there was a 25 minute wait time, there is no reason why it should have taken this long. We asked 3 times what was happening and I was pretty much ready to abandon ship and walk out when it finally arrived. It’s just my personal opinion but I feel like tapas style places should space the dishes out so you can enjoy the evening. Given the $ 150 price tag, I’m looking forward to an evening out, not a stuff your face and run. Sorry Darling, you make great food but we won’t be back.

Fantastic mix of 80 and 90 music. The food, and specifically the dumplings are okay, but it is always hard to be non judgmental about a dumpling place in Northbridge that charges $ 10 for 4 dumplings. Good for a first date with a non vegetarian.

Over winter I have been enjoying making a pilgrimage to Darlings on the less busy nights to enjoy some Asian inspired dishes, especially those that are loaded with chilli; note if you are after authentic good look elsewhere; if you want some interesting takes with good quality produce you’ll be fine. Ask you waiter about the sake of Japanese whiskey and they will try and match it to your tastes; I have had some pretty good matches over the past couple of months. The venue is cool and being in Northbridge is packed on Fridays and Saturdays however they do take bookings which is good and the food comes out quick; though it will get the typical loud buzz as the place fills up

For the prices you pay darlings is very average and inconsistent. We ordered a few starters and a couple of mains to share. One of our mains which was the special beef cheek was delicious but tiny portion the other was the char kway Teo and that was just a fishy salty soggy mess… I could have gotten something a lot more delicious and at half the price at china town. Comparing it to similar style venues doing the same type of food for a lot less $$ they need to step up their game!

Unfortunately this place did not do it for me. Heard so much good reviews about this so we decided to sample a few of their dishes over the weekend. The restaurant was packed at 9.30pm and was noisy as. We found a seat at the back section of the restaurant which has a really nice ambiance. But unfortunately the food wasn’t something I would brag about. The kangaroo dumplings weren’t cooked through when we had them, the pork bun had very very little pork at all– more like sauce and veggie bun and the pannacota was thick, rubbery and full of gelatine. Such a shame! :/ Price was too pricey for me for such small serving. Definitely overpriced and overrated.

Easy online booking for a table. We arrived at 9.30pm the place was packed and extremely noisey. We were seating close to the front squished into a table with the comfy bench seat along the wall and horrible metal chairs on the other side of the table. The chairs are freezing to sit on at first then you realize that the searing pain in you lower back region is from your ample sized butt being squeezed into a chair half its size and the back view of your butt being fed thru the metal bars to the table behind must be glorious! I hate those chairs! Rant over. The menu was quickly explained to us by a waitress who spoke English as a second language. Which was ok because we didn’t need help. Order time. Hipster with the beard at least his beard wasn’t wearing food like another place we had lunch recently, took our order. Kangaroo dumplings Pork bao Chicken wings Laksa Which arrived Laksa, wings, dumplings then bao. So as I was prepared for in someone’s review the table got really small really quickly. Then at last the joy started. The Laksa creamy, spicy but not too spicy, flavour, full of goodies. yum! The chicken wings are perfectly crispy, juicy and the sauce is spicy tangy sweet. The bao… fresh popping flavour and the dumplings with that sauce omg! I finished with the coconut crème brûlée and Jen had the chocolate dumplings. Dessert, pardon me was a mouthgasam!!! I teetered on a 3 or 4 star rating due to the chairs and noise but the food was awesome. so a 4!

It’s nice you can get something decent late at night in Northbridge. I say decent, because I’ve never really had anything that has made me enthused to come back. The dumplings are ok — the hot and sour broth that comes with the chicken dumplings is neither hot nor sour, but it is tasty. The fried chicken wings are pretty good, but I mean, you’d have to mess up badly for me not to enjoy them. Lots of meat on them with a chilli dipping sauce. Battered and fried like KFC wings really, just without the secret herbs and spices! Roast duck and prawn fried rice is good — however we didn’t get any duck in ours, when it was bought to the attention of our waitress(VERY friendly Canadian girl, no complaints about the service) she apologised, spoke to her manager and gave up 25% off that dish to compensate for the lack of duck, which was reasonable. It has loads of prawns though so I didn’t feel too ripped off. Cocktail was average — heat of the night — tasted like a tequila sunrise, but was $ 18. Meh. 15% surcharge on public holidays will get you though be aware of that!

Last night’s dinner was a bit hit and miss. Let’s start with the hits, the quinoa soft shell crab was crispy and inventive and the pork belly was crisp and delicious. Both servings were small, I could have eaten a mountain of just those. The kung pao chicken was authentic and had all the right flavours. That was probably about all that I liked. The dumplings were just ok, but for my dumpling fix I’d rather go to dim sum for half the price. The vegetarian sang choy bao was not one. Wrapping braised tofu in a lettuce leaf does not make it a sang choy bao. It was like wrapping a stew in a leaf, bizarre. The Asian slaw was overly bland and the poached chicken salad was a underwhelming. Sure the chicken was nicely poached but the rest of the dish was boring. They do know how to make a good cocktail though so perhaps I’ll head back for crab and cocktails.

I am a huge scallop fan, and Darlings had them down. The fresh sea beauties were perfectly prepared. The potato foam was delicious — who knew foam of all things would taste so good! I was also lucky enough to sample a dairy-free version of the dish featuring a strong pesto sauce and black pudding. Another winning combination of flavours. Pork and Prawn Rice Paper Rolls = Dish of the day! Packed with fresh Asian vegetables, flavoursome meat and served with a thick, nutty sauce Darlings version of the classic were nothing like the rice paper rolls I’ve had in the past. Explosion of flavours Braised Black Bean Beef Cheek on Coriander Pesto with Red Cabbage Marmalade — Can I have three favourite dishes? The beef cheeks melted in my mouth. The thick chunks of beef practically broke apart like a hot knife through butter when we cut them up to serve. It was so soft and decadent and absolutely heavenly. The black bean flavour was on point. Still thinking about this dish.

I had a delicious meal at Darlings Supper Club consisting of Rice Paper Rolls & then a Prawn & Chicken Laksa which was full of flavour and chillies. I wonder if perhaps they could tailor the heat to the palate of the customer as not all would like something so spicy!!! My only criticism of the dish was that it was lacking in noodles for the volume of sauce/soup provided. The rice paper roll were fresh and tasty & also carried a little heat within the accompanying dressing. I loved the décor of the restaurant and the staff were great, I will happily go back for more when I’m next in Perth :)

Looking for somewhere great in the northbridge area for a fabulous dinner? then look no further than Darlings Supper Club! This is one of my favorite restaurants at the moment. The food is flavorful, fresh and delicious! I am always excited to try the new dishes. The sticky pork dumplings are on my hit list everything I am there. The cocktails are great and there is a range of specialty drinks and wine/beer. The venue is great with booth sided seating, indoor plants and open kitchen. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Try ordering in stages as the kitchen sends things out when they are ready and you might end up with more plates than table.

Some of our friends said they weren’t overly impressed by this place but we had a really good experience. We let the waiter order for us and the guys did a really good job. Recommend the pork dumplings, any desert and the beef(can’t remember the dish). Thanks!

Not sure why Darlings Supper Club only has 3 stars so far, we had a great time there and really enjoyed the food. The wait staff were very friendly and chatty and were able to provide great suggestions for food and drinks. We had the beef green curry which was delicious, as were the pork and the chicken dumplings we had to start with. The char Sui pork pancakes were also a winner. All best to share with whomever you are dining with. You really can’t go past the desert. I had the trifle. I wanted 10 more after I was done with it. Refreshing summer desert. Open til 3 am too, and that on a ‘school night’!!! Unheard of in P-town! Another plus!

The Darlings Supper Club resides in what was previously a variety of different restaurants, none of which I remember much about. The place serves fusion Asian food(fusion Asian still makes me cringe a little). dumplings and noodles and a decent list of beers and an impressive list of Asian Whiskey from Japan and Sake. The place has exposed brick walls(which I still absolutely love and is so very NYC!) and a vertical wall of flourishing green indoor plants and lots of hanging plants. Along with sheek lines and pendant lights. Very hip and a little sense of it being a «grown up» space. I loved what they did to the interiors of the place. Overall, all the dumplings had amazing skin, but the filling was a little stingy. The flavours ended up being very similar to each other and really need to mix it up. The price is steep, especially when you compare it to yum cha. But it is a completely different experience, if that is what you are going for. Although I feel as though the charms of dumpling eating to have that noisy, cart-driving chaos in a Chinese yum cha house, and of course to pair all that with tea. We paired our dumplings with ginger and apple cider from custard and co. It was the perfect match — dumplings and ginger/apple cider. Of course our mid-week outing wasn’t complete without desserts. There was only two to choose from but both sounded so good so we got both to share. I loved the lime, lychee and coconut trifle. It was balanced — tangy and sweet with a glorious sago lychee balls, creamy coconut milk and lime infused custard like thing. I could easily have another. Then there was the salted, caramelised peanut and choc snickers — it came out as a slice. It was rich, it was chocolatey and definitely needing sharing(for me anyway). Definitely one for the sweet-toothed and for ones that love their salted caramel! Overall, Darlings Supper Club is a great place for just that — supper. It’s great when there is a concert on at the Perth Arena and you want something to eat afterwards, something small or to have dessert. It’s just as great on a weeknights after an evening as it’s still open for you and your late night buddies. A choice to your usual greasy chinese or kebabs.

Finally! A decent place located in Perth that opens till late in the night! No more late night Maccas run or something completely unhealthy that causes a heart attack. Discovered this place while scrolling through instagram somehow. and decided it might be worth a try considering it’s somewhere different and new and not the same old boring fast food. Price is a little steep for my liking. So I most probably wouldn’t go there too often unless I want to be broke. But they do amazing food. Like… amazeballs food! We tried a couple of different dumplings here and there which I quite enjoyed. But the highlight of the night and quite surprisingly. is there selection of noodles. I especially love love love their chicken noodles. Like wow, that’s a bowl of amazingness! Their sticky pork ribs were also darn amazing. There is a distinct charred flavour on it that makes it all the more delicious, combined with the sweetness and some spice. Definitely worth a try. The service there is fairly great with really friendly staff members. I had quite an enjoyable first experience that I had to go back again recently for another visit. And I’m sure I’ll be visiting that place quite often unless their quality of food drops(which I highly doubt) Go try it! Now! Hehe whenever you feel like

I’ve said it once and I’ll probably keep saying it until I’m proven wrong — if I want good Chinese food in Perth, I might as well just go over to my grandmother’s house. Our local dimsum offerings are either average, overpriced or inconsistent, whilst authentic Chinese cuisine is a rarity… if not largely unheard of beyond a select few suburban haunts. Even if I’m not fond of all kinds of Chinese food, I am a sucker for dumplings — it’s one of the few foods in life that I can eat a near infinite amount in one sitting. The equation currently reads dumplings, a central location and open till late(and I mean really late) — although«born out of necessity», the real question was… is Darling’s Supper Club really what we were all waiting for? As far as a spontaneous weeknight walk in’s go — by 7:30PM, Darling’s was bursting at the seams… with the exception of the outdoor alfresco area. If you’re not the type whose happy to sit at the bar and snack, reservations during this early hype period are strongly recommended. There are 6 dumplings on the menu and all 6 of them were a disappointment. There were however, a range of textures that extended from chewing gum to yogurt; what was severely lacking was the juicy burst that comes from a soft skin and flavoursome fillings. Both the Schezwan and Salt Squid($ 11.00) Deep Fried Baby Shrimp with Coriander Cream($ 11.00) were the only saving grace upon our selections. Although the cream lacked the freshness and distinct punch of coriander, the shrimp were crisp and flavoursome enough to stand alone. My only criticism with the squid was the serving size — $ 11.00 would have stretched far further elsewhere. Even the Honey Sesame Chicken Wings($ 11.00) and Fried Japanese Tofu with Chilli Salt and Miso Glaze($ 9.00) lacked the vibrancy of spice and a humble seasoning of salt. With regards to main courses — we tried both the Hong Kong XO Pork Noodles($ 25.00) and the Mushroom Stir-Fry with Shanghai Egg Noodles and Oyster Sauce($ 25.00) as well as the Malabar Goat Curry with Sticky Coconut Rice($ 28.00). There just seem to be an air of complacency surrounding all the dishes that we had tired throughout the night; the XO sauce boasted nothing but overpowering sweetness, whilst the Mushroom stir-fry was plain and forgettable. There was no complexity in the flavours of the Malabar Curry and the glue like coconut rice did not do the dish any favours. Although Darling’s Supper Club is riding the PR wave hard and whilst I want so badly to dismiss this as just a bad night in the kitchen or the normal downfalls of a restaurant’s early days, the general consensus so far is that this is a new place worth dismissing. The service is amazing, the fit out is exactly what you’d want in a supper club-esque venue, but the hype will eventually grind to a halt and that’s when a good menu has to be in place to keep customers coming back. The food bill at the end of the night, split between a party of four stood at $ 50 a head; we left with an appetite for elsewhere, after enduring nearly the entire menu of flavourless food that lacked the character of well balanced Asian cuisine. Oh and calling something a «fusion take on traditional flavours» doesn’t excuse the fact that despite it’s potential, Darling’s is just not quite there yet.

Asian fusion = Asian food at an extravagant price? This is another addition to the late night dining scene in Northbridge open from 3pm to 3am daily. The word has gotten around as the place was a full house when we arrived at 7pm tonight. The sign out the front and the unassuming façade don’t give away to much but arouse your curiosity enough for you to want to see what is going on inside. In truth we bumped into one of the part owners over the weekend and were told tonight would be the first night open to the general public so it seemed like a decent place to try out. We made a booking for 7pm and arrived just on time. We found the service to be very friendly and professional. The décor is quite funky with real plants on the wall. We assumed the focus would be on dumplings but this isn’t necessarily the case and neither is the assumed associated price tag. Other than the dumplings on offer there is also many things available here including the Malabor Goat Curry with sticky Coconut Rice and the Honey Sesame Wings to name a few(the price spikes quite significantly for these dishes). With a bottle of house red going for $ 38(don’t get me wrong it tasted Okay) this definitely isn’t the place to go for a cheap bite and drink. We found the Seafood plate with a selection of Skinless scallop, prawn and truffle with roasted garlic and soy(steamed) dumplings, Schezwan and salt squid w/house rice wine vinaigrette dumplings and Deep fried baby shrimp w/coriander cream and finally herring crisps and daily fresh sashim to be quite a well balanced offering. This comes recommended to try some of the best dishes on offer if you’re undecided. The Hong Kong XO Pork noodle w/spaetzle was respectable as was the Malabar goat curry with sticky coconut rice but the price was not(25 and 28 seemed a bit pricey considering the size of each dish). Another little annoyance here was the insistence on providing little share plates for dumplings and dishes with rice/noodles instead of the normal fare of small bowls. Trying to pick rice off a plate is not fun(I am decent with a pair of chop sticks for the record). Dessert was definitely a highlight as the Lime, lychee and coconut ‘trifle’ and the Peanut, chocolate and soy ‘snickers’ were dead rubbers for the desert of the night. In my honest opinion — get both! Overall it was an enjoyable experience bar the fact we paid what I believe was an exorbitant amount for what is essentially dumplings(one dish out of 3 had truffles) and a curry and some noodles. The seafood platter did seem to be reasonable in terms of what was on offer. Even though the ingredients may be better quality than other competing Asian fare, the prices do still seem over inflated.

Finally another LATENIGHT eatery in Perth has arrived! Darlings Supper Club is an asian inspired eatery open every day from 3pm til 3am. From the outside it looks intriguing and small… *opens the door* and your greeted by a friendly face and there’s a live dumpling steaming station at the front continued by the impressive bar counter. its fitted out with a vertical garden wall, exposed brick pillars and heaps of seating great for groups of any size and food is perfect for sharing! sizing of dumplings are average and come in sets of 4, for pricing they’ve got it spot on and the flavour is great! The peanut, chocolate and soy ‘snickers’ is notably good and definitely recommend it :-) The service is also incredibly nice and friendly, we had an unfortunate mishap in our dessert with a piece if bamboo and they were extremely apologetic and took it off the bill! I can’t wait to visit Darlings again in the future!
