Keep it Fresh looks like one of those fresh fruit and veg shops that should be really really cheap, but to be honest they don’t keep it very fresh here. Unfortunately I also find it rather pricey most of the time. Sure you can buy one of the boxes of rotten fruit that they have out the front for a couple of dollars, but if you want anything that is not way past it then you have to pay, more often than not, the same price as the Coles next door. Keep it Fresh can be a good place to get those rarer type of fresh produce — say if you are in the market for more than the four types of Apple that most supermarkets stock or you want strange Asian fruit or something, then it is sometimes worth checking out. But most of the time I just find it a pricey and substandard place to get fruit and veg.

Local ma and pa grocery store directly opposite Aldi. Im grateful these guys are here, Aldi is good for cheap basics however I don’t want to buy their bulk packed fruit and vegetables. Instead of buying 3kgs of oranges I can pop over to ‘Keep It Fresh’ and buy what I need. The staff are all family and are relaxed and friendly. They sell cheap tinned chick peas, lentils, fresh honey, herbs and all well below supermarket prices. Their produce isn’t as squeaky shiny clean but is still of a high quality.

Nestled within the Northcote shopping centre near Aldi, Keep It Fresh is a fruit and veg shop that frankly tramples all over its local supermarket rivals price wise. Stocking a range of produce on par with the big supermarkets in terms of both variety and quality, Keep It Fresh is a friendly local grocer staffed by some of the nicest people you’re likely to find. Not only have I been gifted Turkish bread galore at this gregarious little grocer, I’ve even been invited to Greece by Keep It Fresh’s generous owners. All round great.
