Fairly new to the Eaton Mall strip near classic Greek cafés Nikos and Vanilla, 5Five us right on the corner opposite them. They’ve taken cafés to the next level in this strip, with great coffee(we had soy latté and hot chocolate) and food(cronut), while bringing a funky clean cut industrial look(white tiled walks, unmissable yellow metal chairs) without being pretentious. While it can appear busy at times, look through and find the spaces for you to sit. Separate tables and scoot across, nothing that would be look down upon. While food did take a little longer than we thought, we were told it was being made from scratch and 20 minutes later the tastiest Cronut appeared in front of me. Hard and sugary outside and soft and gooey inside with chocolate ganache. It was topped with: chocolate ganache, strawberries, fresh blueberries and shards of toffee. It felt fresh, new and is a juxtaposition of the other typically(but still great) classic cafés in the Oakleigh mall strip.

Okay I but the bullet I’ve lived in the Chadstone area for 5 years & never checked this café out, Due to the praise all you Unilocalers out there I thought I’d give it a try. The coffee was sensational I had a tall white & it really is the nicest coffee I’ve had in oakleigh. They have a broad range of foods from gourmet sandwiches to pizzas so come on down & check out this little gem.

Best coffee in Oakleigh by a zillion miles. Yes, a zillion. Friendly staff who know their regulars and make sure we are well looked after. The menu is strong with a good selection of fresh soups, pizzas, salads and my favourite, sliders(chicken. lamb and calamari). For something more fun I dare you to go past their pastries display without having to wipe a little bit of drool from the corner of your mouth. Double dare.

Situated on prime Oakleigh real estate — on the pedestrian mall — 5FIVE has the best coffee on the strip by a long shot. There’s a bakery tucked down the back of the café and all their cakes, pastries and breads are made fresh on site. Do yourself a favor and get a croissant with your coffee. The menu offers some pretty standard café breakfast and lunch options, I come here for the coffee and the friendly banter with the barista. If you find yourself in Oakleigh looking for somewhere to eat or grab a coffee and don’t feel like charcoal meat or sitting in a huge impersonal café, pop into 5FIVE.

Finally a good café in Oakleigh! Good coffee and selection of food. Each morning when I get my coffee I’m tempted by the pastries… I’ve been able to hold off so far, but not sure how long that’s going to last.

It may seem trite to give five stars to a newly established eatery. Here though it is entirely appropriate and for a new establishment it is doubly exiting to recommend it. 5Five is that mix of old world charm and service combined with ultra modern décor with facilities that functions unobtrusively as you relax and enjoy what they offer. 5Five sits on the old site of Steve’s restaurant and has had a complete makeover. It is my ‘coffee-first-thing-in-the-morning’ place of choice as well as the first place I think of when looking to purchase that special loaf of bread. The olive bread is a particular favorite and have not tasted better. The lunch menu is extraordinarily diverse(as can be seen by some to the pictures I have uploaded) and the calamari salad is to die for. Check it out! You will not be disappointed.

Oh 5Five. I’ve been waiting for you to pop by for a while. I’ve found Oakleigh to be a little ‘same same but different’ when it comes to gastronomic choices available — all bland Greek cafés filled with peeps wearing Adidas and speech impediments. Until you came along, with your shiny polished concrete floor, bright yellow accessories and matching coffee machine and awesome range of sweets/treats on offer. Highly recommend soy latte from here — the morning barista has a wrist tattoo so she clearly knows coffee. The couple of lunches I have tried have been ace too — the toasted sandwiches pack a punch and the burgers are served on brioche and a side of chips with aioli. I look forward to working my way through your menu in between the day job.

Where to go for breakfast in Oakleigh? Where indeed. Well, how about the recently opened, extremely modern, amazing decorations and staff members who can only be some of the best. I came here the other day having high expectations and it also being a new place and also some of my favourite and cool Unilocalers favourites, I just could not resist. The staff are so professional and courteous of your needs i.e. Asking if I need any of the days paper, filling your glass, do I need any salt or paper, do you want me to get you anything else. I have to say their customer service just made my whole day a lot brighter. Just when the customer service was not enough, the food that I ordered came in almost instantly, I had the poached eggs which was perfectly cooked without it being too stuffed with an extreme amount of vinegar or any other sauces, also the coffee was amazing. The prices are of your average café, the space is so large, the decoration is amazing, they also have a large amount of cookies, breads, sandwiches and pies on display. This guys are among some of the best cafés in the whole of Melbourne not just Oakleigh.
