The 9.90 Lunch specails are great, I never tried the steaks because I have perfected the art of cooking steaks and fish. Like I just know i’d be to tough of a critic, I sorta don’t like how drinks come out first then the meal, but that’s personal gripe of mine that I like the meal all there at once so I don’t finish my drink first and have to order another drink. Anyway people I’ve gone here with normally say it’s a bit hit and miss, although I really enjoy the meals.

I just completed a review for Hog’s Breath Caloundra and firmly debunked the theory that every single restaurant in this chain is the same. The aforementioned location is a clear winner. This one, not so much. I have dined here twice on a Saturday night. Yes, traditionally a busy time, but it shouldn’t mean the kind of experience we have had both times. While staff were friendly and attentive each time we ate there the spiel felt very forced and condescending. We felt like we were being babied by the staff and they were disguising(poorly) their disdain for their job. This is not the reason for the two stars. The worst part about this particular Hog’s Breath is the 18 hour steaks. A staple on the menu at every restaurant in the franchise, this is meant to be a tender cut of meat. Both times we have dined here the 18 hour steak has been stringy, extremely fatty, lean and chewy. Everything but tender and juicy. And this is coming from a restaurant that SPECIALISESINSTEAK! I have eaten at several other Hog’s Breath restaurants and have never had a steak this bad. We won’t return here even under duress unless they seriously clean up their act.

My girlfriend and I chose to eat here before a rugby game. We didn’t go for the steak, but instead chose to get a some of the appetizers to share. The food was delicious and well seasoned. I opted for the tower for two(included salt & pepper calamari, spring rolls, chicken tenders, & potato skins). She opted for chicken wings, breaded mushrooms, and mozzarella sticks. I loved the chicken tenders, but found the calamari could have been crispier, as well as the mushrooms. However, over all, it was a lovely before game meal. The hostesses were friendly and the service was exceptional. It’s not fancy, but it’s a great bar food. The atmosphere is fun, comfortable, and cheerful. I would recommend for anyone looking for a decently priced meal in the area.

Went here with a friend on the day of the big Roar vs Liverpool match. The place was pretty crowded for a lunch cover but our waitress was quick and friendly. Drinks were delivered to the table within minutes of us being seated. Our food order was taken quickly and the food arrived fast, I think it’s probably the fastest service I’ve ever had at a HBC. They must have had their whole kitchen on to serve the pre game crowd. Even though they probably could have used our table sooner than we left no one rushed us out the door and we enjoyed every bite of our meal that we could squeeze in.

Hands down the BEST steak I’ve tried in Brisbane. Well done. CHEERS, mate! I’d recommend this place any time. Great venue!!!

Cheeky and rude service, and calling it «service» is definitely a stretch. Very good chance I won’t be going back.

Take your expectations and lower them. Lowered? Ok, we’re ready to begin. Lowering expectations is the key to going somewhere like Hog’s Breath Café when we’re conditioned to a certain kind of dining experience and not experiencing feelings of disappointment. As I sat in The Barrack’s Hog Breath’s outdoor area in the spring sun, eating lunch here didn’t seem like such an atrocity against decency and perceived taste. Monday to Friday from 11:30am til 5pm you can enjoy a $ 9.90 lunch. There’s five lunches included in the deal and covers wraps, burgers and a salad. I have a thing about not ordering meals I could prepare at home myself, and yes, the Smoked BBQ Beef wrap I ordered, definitely fell into this category but for less than $ 10 I let it pass He opted for a Grilled Chicken and Ranch burger. Our meals were delivered to our table pretty soon after ordering. While there was nothing remarkably outstanding about dining at Hog’s Breath Café my lunch experience didn’t leave any great sour taste in my mouth, either.

Welcome to Hit-and-Miss Steak Restaurant! I’ve been here three times over the last couple of years: one occasion was exceptional, the other was slightly disappointing in light of the first experience but still fairly good, and the third was a full-blown letdown. I had Hog’s Breath’s famous Avocado Prime Rib($ 32.95) on all three occasions. This was owing entirely to the delicious béarnaise sauce(and based on my rule that when visiting Hog’s Breath, I should have what they’re known for — steak). I sampled my various companions’ meals(also steaks) and never found them to have a sauce that tops the béarnaise sauce on the Avocado Prime Rib. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it. On each trip, the service from staff was uniform: indifferent and sluggish. The rest rooms were a bit unexpectedly funky/retro(with a metal-sheeting ‘shed’ vibe), a little at odds with the big-time American-style family restaurant environment that dominates throughout. The reduced food quality over my multiple trips has included less impressive sides and portions of smaller size. The salads, once a delicious vegetable mix, have basically became a plain McDonald’s leaf salad. Though McDonald’s probably tastes better. The last time I visited the staff overcharged us and there was annoying five minute kafuffle at the end to sort it all out. I was also told prior to my meal that on this occasion there was no slow-cooked steaks(usually the Prime Rib steak is slowly cooked for at least 18 hours). I didn’t notice the difference however owing to the stoic awesomeness of the béarnaise sauce. A friend who has visited Hog’s Breath on Petrie Terrace on two separate occasions in the last six months came to my house directly afterwards(I live nearby) and commenced to immediately rant about the terrible service they received, being overcharged(on both occasions) and the kitchen having run out of slow-cooked steak(also on both occasions). «Never again!» she said emphatically. I can only conclude the downhill slide I noticed as a broader trend at Hog’s Breath Café continues unabated. Despite the sauce, this restaurant is closer to two than three stars.
