Everyone knows that airport food is not the best, plus the pricing is outrageous — Jerry Seinfeld even has a bit about how airport eatery prices are out of this world. These two things along with the fact that Perth is the most expensive city in the world, and the Perth Domestic Airport leaves a lot to be desired, you know you’re not going to be blown away by a satisfying well-priced culinary experience at the airport Hudsons. However you can see that I have given this Hudsons three out of five stars. If it was not located in an airport it would be less, but I was thankful for their $ 9 small chicken wrap yesterday when picking up a relative at the airport, especially with a 20 minute wait at Dome, the only other café at the airport’s arrivals area.

Pre-packed sandwiches scare me a bit, but desperate times call for desperate measures. The Hudsons version of a Ruben Sandwich isn’t great, but it’s a quick fix went you’re running from the baggage claim to the taxi stand after your plane lands late and you miss lunch.

After experiencing the worst coffee ever at hudsons in Adelaide airport I felt compelled to write a positive review of hudsons at Perth virgin departure terminal outside gate 23. The service was prompt and the coffee was perfect! I also indulged in a little quiche which was also yummy. Thankyou hudsons … Tell Adelaide to lift their game! Please!!!

Yeah, ok, so the prices aren’t exactly good — are food prices EVER really good at the airport? — but Hudsons Coffee serves a purpose, and serves it well enough. For travellers at the airport places like Hudson’s* are a God send. Coffee, pre-made sandwiches, fruit juices and snacks… Everything you could want. Unless of course your Jetstar flight** is delayed TENHOURS in which case you’re still at the airport after midnight and the place has turned into a ghost town. In which case only the(few) vending machines will save you. But providing you visit during normal human hours, Hudson’s has everything you need to satisfy your traveller’s tummy. *For whatever reason there isn’t actually an apostrophe in the name. I added one for the sake of grammar and my own sanity. **Yes. This happened to me. It was HORRIBLE and I’m NEVER flying Jetstar again.

Perth’s domestic and international airports aren’t exactly overrun with choices of places to get a coffee or something to eat, but in the domestic airport by the baggage collection and in the departures lounge(and soon to be in the international airport) is Hudson’s coffee where you can grab a good quality cup of coffee to power you through your next flight or get some food on the go. They make every kind of coffee, hot or cold, and it’s freshly roasted beans made by top quality baristas so it always tastes great. They also have a wide range of food from sandwiches and foccacias to sushi, there is something to feed everyone in your family even the fussy kids! It is all takeaway so if you find you actually have to running to check in you don’t have to leave your meal! The service here is great, even at 4.30 in the morning or at midnight they are chirpy taking your order and the baristas are alway up for a chat and banter. There is a nice community atmosphere here as the staff at the airport, all the baggage handlers, pilots, air hostesses and so on come and get their coffee and food and everyone gets to know one another so you hear a lot of catching up and banter. It’s the hub of the airport and definitely the best coffee available.
