Divine!!! Stupendous!!! One of Perth’s best kept secrets. But not for long… they do gift boxes. it is like Haigh’s Chocolates is to Adelaide. With a standard catch phrase… If your going to Perth. Please get me a Honey Cake!!! It won’t be long that you will see these cakes in gift boxes for sale at the Airport!!! If Perth Domestic and International Airports opened a store that showcases the flavours of WA, so that people travelling out of the state can sample and buy these great wonders. Honey Cake would be top of that list! This cake should be on the plate of every good venue in Perth that does exquisite Morning and Afternoon teas.

The Honey Cake is simply amazing. so sweet, fluffy and just the right amount of layers. I absolutely love honey so this cake is like heaven to me! Every Time I’ve purchased honey cake it has always been fresh and full of that oooozing honey flavour we all love! I love how friendly the staff always are — you can tell they are passionate about their business and even better it’s a traditional recipe which they have shared with us all! I used to make my purchases down at Fremantle markets but I love how they are in the city now!

I sampled some of the Honeycake and I think I found my new favourite cake, which is saying a lot for a person who typically doesn’t like sweets! Thin cake layers alternated with a rich caramel make this cake sinfully delicious, but the walnut meal and honey still has a certain delicate quality about it. Simona prides herself on using local unfiltered WA honey and the quality is undeniable. Even the gluten free cake is delicious though a bit more floury in my opinion. A little pricey at $ 55 for a small cake but it really is a labour of love with each layer of cake rolled out individually by hand. It’s really rich and sweet so you really don’t need too much.

The Honeycake was brought over to Perth by Simona, a young Czech woman. It is usually eaten twice a year, once during Christmas, in the Czech Republic. The Polish, Russian, Latvian, etc all have their own versions but Simona has brought over a traditional homemade recipe to Perth. She first baked it for a friend’s BBQ and didn’t expect her friend’s chef boyfriend to enjoy it. Especially, since everyone was interested in guzzling beers — but the honeycake was gone in 10 minutes flat. It was then suggested to Simona that she start selling this cake. I had initially sampled honeycake in Fremantle Markets and fallen in love instantly. I then had some at the Taste of Perth and couldn’t help trying sample after sample. My friend enjoyed it so much that she asked her Polish mother-in-law to send a recipe as she couldn’t be bothered going all the way to Fremantle to buy a slice of honeycake. But now, THEHONEYCAKE is available in Perth CBD. It is made up of 5 layers of sponge cake that are all made separately. They are they layered with caramelised honey and also contain a biscuity layer. Simply scrumptious. What I do like about this cake is that you can order it for events like weddings but Simona will stick to the simplicity of the cake and will not add any frostings etc to it but will decorate it with a simple touch.

Love their Honeycake! And they have a great new location in the State Buildings’ facing the lovely Stirling garden. Their cakes are so delicious, with the perfect amount of creamy goodness, taste of honey and the thin layers of cake and thin layers of cream filling make this cake so beautifully balanced and delicate. These cakes are neither too sweet nor too rich, honestly they just are perfect! The taste is indescribable, yet so good you’ll come back for more
