I like burritos a lot. Having spent a year in Toronto the first thing I did in Melbourne was search for a burrito half as good as the choice there and honestly it’s been pretty disappointing — I would say Zambrero is however one of the better ones. There’s plenty of ‘Mexican’ food chains, Mad Mex etc, but I think Zambrero is a little better than that. In saying that it is still a chain and it’s not amazing but the burritos here are one of the better ones I’ve had in Melbourne. Decent price, decent location, solid burrito.

The Mexican version of Subway, Zambrero is the poor Mexican cousin compared to Guzman y Gomez. I was ultimately disappointed by Zambrero, especially since I had been eagerly awaiting a Mexican option to arrive in Port Melbourne. My burrito was not hot enough and the ingredients used sparingly as you shuffle down the line indicating whether you want beans, rice, lettuce?, cheese, etc. My dining companion enjoyed their burrito better. The fit out was modern but not bright enough. The music playing was Jay-Z, I would have preferred something Mexican. We opted to eat in the comfort of our warm lounge room. I may be back but only if i can’t be bothered going into the city for my Mexican of choice.
