I’ve been herded here on a school night post cocktail party in another part of The Star establishment. There’s a rockabilly band about to kick off and they’ve attracted an hefty following of rockabilly outfitted swing fans who are clearly bursting to bust their moves on the dance floor. There’s a two deep crowd at the bar, but thankfully, I don’t have to wait for long to get a drink. Staff are speedy, friendly, charismatic and accommodating. Couldn’t ask for much more. Looking out to the casino in full swing I can’t help but be taken back to my time at the Bellagio, and the pick of bars scattered amid a sea of pokies., card tables and punters trying their luck. And trying to get out of this joint is near impossible. I lose all sense of direction and end up aimlessly wondering the casino floor — which is clearly the cunning idea… and takes me back to Caesar’s Palace — where there’s even a vast outside area which is actually inside with sky blue lofty ceiling that makes you feel like you’re inside the Truman Show. Thank fully, The Star’s outside is outside, so once you’re out, you’re out. The band fires up and the groovers shake their swing tails with some impressive manoeuvres. Catch the rockabilly group there once a month.
