Sugaroom was exactly like what the other reviewers said, it’s a great modern Australian restaurant tucked in a quiet part of town. It takes some detective work to find where it is.(Turn left at the end of Harris street) We had a group of 6, so we tried a good sample of the menu. The first dish we ordered was the pork bellies(thanks to another Unilocaler’s tip) and they were AMAZING! Flame seared pork bellies on a pond of sweet chilli sauce and covered under a bed of coriander. It’s got hints of Vietnamese influence with the refreshing garnish. Our main dishes were quite impressive too. We’ve ordered a few of the lamb shoulders. The meat was slow cooked for 12 hours and hence was really tender and juicy. If we had to pick an issue, the portion size was relatively small for the price we paid(we all got three small cubes of lamb shoulders) so you might want to order a side of roasted chat potatoes. The special dish for the day was the roasted spatchcock. It was flavoursome and nicely cooked, as expected from a restaurant of this calibre, but nothing out of the ordinary. The desserts were to die for. They took a while to be prepared but they were really good. All in all, I would recommend this place for the nice ambience, great views over Johnston bay, good food and service. The prices are a little higher than your average eatery around the area, but they always do specials, such as the Entertainment Book 2014 had 25% off on the price. If you’re a citibank member, you can get a bottle of complimentary wine too.

We thoroughly enjoyed a weekday lunch here. The food was great, the wine was great, the service was great. Probably the only downfall was that it was a little empty but hey, we enjoyed the serenity. It’s on the pricey side but definitely quality. Would definitely recommend.

We went to Sugaroom on a Ouffer voucher. Despite being rather difficult to find(around the corner once you get to bottom of Harris st) we were warmly welcomed on a rather miserable night. The set menu had a tea smoked salmon starter but they also offered an(off menu) onion tart as an option– which was delicious! The salmon starter was light and fresh. Mains gave the option between a filet of beef and gnocci dish and a fish(breem) dish. Both were superb. We weren’t expecting much from the fish but its was a rather pleasant surprise. Desserts were a chocolate crème brûlée with marshmallows and rasberries. And a passionfruit pavlova of sorts. Both again were real tasty! On the vouchers were a bottle of wine between 2 too. Overall, an absolutely delicious meal, in a great and beautiful location right on the water(despite it being a rather miserable night we went on), with excellet and very attentive service. My only concern would be the prices of their full price/a la carte menu(based on their prices on their website). The portions were generous and really scrumptious but did seem a little overpriced. All up though, HIGHLYRECOMMENDED!

I came here based on a review I read and the venue certainly didn’t disappoint. A tricky spot to find if you haven’t been before, we wandered around aimlessly a bit before locating it(walk right down to the end of Harris Street, down to the wharf area and turn left). Once we found Sugaroom, perched by the water’s edge, we enjoyed a really lovely, relaxed, fine dining experience. I absolutely could not fault the food or service. Enjoy the spectacular views across Johnstons Bay to Balmain, on the former«CSR Sugar refinery» site, as you make your way through the delicious courses or the extensive drinks list. My pick for starters are the beef carpaccio, shaved pecorino, oregano, extra virgin olive oil(20) which melts in your mouth, market oysters, natural with fresh lemon 4 each, or the tasting plate for two: cured ocean trout, oysters, crumbed sardines(33). For Mains my picks are the housemaid linguine, blue swimmer crab, parsley, chilli, confit garlic(34), or the hereford prime beef fillet, potato gratin, prawn stuffed zucchini flower, red wine jus(39), but the stand out is definitely the caramelised pork belly, baby bok choy, crispy shallots(35) mmm! My dessert picks are the chocolate crème brulee, raspberry marshmallow, macerated strawberries, or the pear & cinnamon tarte tatin, caramel sauce, honeycomb ice cream(16) Other choices include: chicken liver pâté, cumquat marmalade, toasted brioche 18, rosemary and parmesan crusted sardines, puttanesca salad 21, chicken liver pâté, mozzarella salad, sesame flatbread, olive and sage gnocchi, persian feta, chard, lemon 28, pan roasted dory, fennel fondant, green cauliflower, radish salad 35, crispy skinned barramundi, lotus root, tempura aubergine, lemongrass broth 37.

At the bottom of Harris Street, Pyrmont, right near the water there is a string of cosmopolitan restaurants. At the end is the Sugaroom restaurant and bar that boasts uninterupted views of Pyrmont Bay. The good is Modern Australian and reasonably priced given the generous sized portions. The chicken liver pâté and brioche is average however the gnocchi with Persian fetta and olives is delicious. with complex flavours that go so well together. The restaurant also does a great version of that traditional summer dessert Pavlova; which looks like a white mound with fairy floss and passionfruit syrup. I had food envy because the table next to me had the beef fillert with zucchini and potato gratin. The meat seemed perfectly cooked, pink in the middle and what seemed very tender. Staff at the Sugaroom are very attentive, polite andf happy to offer suggestions from the menu and wine list. I left it up to the bar man to select our wine and he chose a crisp NZ Savignon Blanc with a deep, flavoursome pinot from South Australia. Both were fabulous. Verdict: Im not entirely sure if I would go there again it lacked some atmosphere and it was pretty quiet even for a Tuesday lunch even though I had a great experience I was a little disappointed with my entrée adn for the price there are much better places to eat. 12⁄20

I had the fortune of being taken out for lunch by work to Sugar Room, right down the end of Harris Street in Pyrmont over looking the water. I was fortunate for a few reasons. I got the afternoon off work, I got to try a new place and I didn’t have to pay for it! It’s not unbelievably pricey but when you compare it to my usual home made sandwich it sort of was. And boy did it leave my sandwich for dead! There was a few of us enjoying the afternoon in the outdoor area with the water sparkling right in front of us. Actually that wasn’t the only thing sparkling. During the meal one of the big bosses received a call, left the table and came back with a bottle of Moet. Now that I could never afford to pay for on my own! The food was great and it’s a nice spot to whittle away an afternoon. Especially when works paying!
