How did it take me so long to try this place? I’ve driven past so many times and it always caught my eye, but I never got myself organised to actually come here for brunch until recently. It was one of the few places around that was open in early January, while most others were closed for the holiday break, so I suspect it was even busier than it usually is when I was there. Regardless, the staff were super friendly and we got a table with no trouble at all — and in the upstairs airconditioned area too, a bonus in a Brisbane summer. My biggest problem was not being able to decide what I wanted to eat! In the end I went for one of the specials — on this occasion it was zucchini fritters with bacon and a poached egg. SO. MUCH. BACON. OMG. Delicious. Husband went with his usual big breakfast choice — if a menu has a big breakfast option you can guarantee he will order it — and he wasn’t disappointed. I wouldn’t say that the coffee was the best I’ve ever had, but it was good. We will be back for sure, and my goal is to eventually try the whole menu!

I am yet to find a better breakfast in Brisbane. So this place is always pretty busy on a weekend. But they’re pretty quick so you never need to wait for long, and the staff are really great at what they do, so you’re never left standing there staring at a yet-to-be cleared table, just WILLING someone to clear it so you can sit down. Water on the table when you sit down, and drinks orders taken straight away if you’re ready. Its a well oiled machine. Breakfast is the star of the menu. Several great all day breakfast options, including some of the best muesli I have ever had. But the eggs benni are also amazing, as are the big breakfasts, the French toast, the crepes… everything really. There are also a few lunch style options as well. Burgers, sandwiches, etc. But I can never not order breakfast when it’s available. That’s just not my nature. The coffee is absolutely fantastic, and has become my go-to coffee place. I’ve only ever had one better cup of coffee in Brisbane. Oh, and the green tea is brewed at the correct temperature, so it doesn’t make you want to peel your tongue out of your mouth! All in all, I cannot recommend this place enough. Amazing food, amazing coffee, amazing service. You owe it to yourself to go here!

Once upon a time the owners of the well known Paddington Java Lounge resurfaced with a new identity: Cockadoodle Café in a new location in Brisbane’s Red Hill. Their presence was duly lacking on future visits to the Java Lounge and upon first visits to Cockadoodle it was a relief to see their energy and atmosphere hadn’t gone astray — it had just relocated. Cockadoodle is a fantastic café in the midst of Enoggera Tce and Waterworks Road, which let’s fact it, is a little baron for choices. Whether you’re there during the week or seeking a leisurely Sunday brunch, this café has it all. You feel as though you’re dining in your own back patio and the banana bread I had on my last visit was hands down the best I’ve had in Brisbane. Would I lie to you, Unilocalers? So, chop chop, get yourself to Cockadoodle!

Cockadoodle café is a well situated little business with a heap of potential. And after leaving underwhelmed from a recent breakfast there it seems as if it has a way to go to reach that potential. Cockadoodle has a nice layout with an outdoor eating area and cute interior. Outside there is just enough surrounding foliage to block out most of the suns rays while still letting through plenty of light and there was plenty of space so I didn’t feel remotely cramped. We were served quickly and our waitress was quite friendly. It was not a busy morning by any stretch of the imagination but our coffee’s took a full ten minutes to arrive. The meals came another ten after that and were good without being anything memorable. So while I wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend the Cockadoodle Café in its current incarnation, particularly with some great places around the corner, it is definitely a place worth keeping an eye on as it continuest to develop.

A breezy semi-outdoor eating area, handy location, and value for money are the strengths of this little café on the corner of Waterworks Road and Enoggera Terrace. Wanting to stick to something safe, I tried the smoked trout benedict while my breakfast companion ordered the vegie big breakfast. While the benedict was fine, it wasn’t special and came on an English muffin, which isn’t my favourite type of breadstuff. I found myself staring longingly at the home-made baked beans which came with my friend’s meal and were, by her account, highly satisfactory. The menu isn’t extensive, but a range of sweet and savoury breakfast options are available as well as burgers, wraps, and sweet treats. Due to a public holiday surcharge my meal cost over $ 30, but on a normal day the menu is good value for money and the staff create a friendly atmosphere. A good place to catch up for a casual coffee or brunch.

I felt very comfortable and welcome when I checked out this simple but impressive café which has taken over the premises of what was once upmarket restaurant Olivetto’s. I can’t be sure but something about the vibe of the place made me think it was family owned. The courtyard is pleasantly green with numerous hanging and wall mounted plants, giving it an oasis like feel among the main road setting. Colourful windmills and pennants visible from the road attracts passing trade. The food is pretty simple really, but well-executed. Sweets feature strongly, with a great range of delicious cupcakes, muffins and a French toast special(at least on the day I went). They do a range of omelets, crepes, burgers, turkish bread sandwiches or wraps and salad. All items are under $ 20, which is a good indicator of value these days. The quality service really stood out for me. I observed a waitress going to special lengths to appease a stroppy toddler and to make the parents feel comfortable. It was refreshing to see waitstaff who actually care about doing a good job. She may have been the owner but hey, it’s still refreshing to see.
