Love dropping by for a few sours in the afternoon. I never knew there was so much to know about beer but I learn something new every time I go there.

Think you know beer? Come along and explore all varieties here at this tiny watering hole on Bridge Road. With limited seating, you have to time things right to get a seat and there isn’t a bar as such to belly up to. I think of this place as kind of a bottle-shop with a tasting area. Maybe grab a beer or two from the two taps at the bar and then browse the packed shelves for varieties of beer that you won’t find at Dan Murphy’s and give your taste buds a tour of the worlds beer. I highly recommend trying the Belgian Rochenbach. There is no other beer like it.

I almost don’t want to give it 5 stars because I want to keep it to myself. Awesome beers that change regularly, friendly helpful staff. Cool vibe.

You know what’s better than a craft beer bottle shop with a great and interesting range? A craft beer bottle shop with rotating beers on tap that allows you to stand beer in hand while perusing said great and interesting range for your takeaways. Welcome to Slow Beer. The atmosphere is chilled, the staff friendly and knowledgeable, and the beer taps rotate so often that every time you come in there’s bound to be something different to try. This year they’ve added some simple sandwiches to make sure you’re not trying 12% beers on an empty stomach, but I know they used to also allow you to bring in nachos etc from the Taco Bill next door. Best check with them if they still allow this though! It’s a small place, so it can fill up quickly at peak times(which makes scanning the shelves for your take-aways harder too), but it’s not really the sort of place you’d plan your Friday nights around with a big group — more of a pop-in after work or Sunday session with a close mate or two. Tip: like them on facebook to keep up to date with keg changes — the real interesting and cool sounding stuff doesn’t tend to last long as customers can fill their growlers in addition to trying it in-store

An interesting and delicious range of craft beers, simple toasted sandwiches on the menu, warm, trendy décor(lots of timber!), and friendly service. What a fantastic way to spend a friday afternoon! Make sure you get in early though; this place packs out!(And don’t forget to grab a sixer for the road!)

A huge variety of craft and import beers with a selection on tap, in bottles and growlers. Friendly service and a nice communal table at which to get day drunk and enjoy a panini. I haven’t tried the food but I had to be pulled out by the scruff of my neck to keep from buying the place out.

What do you get when you mix excellent beer with interesting and friendly customers? Slowbeer. Every time I go here it is just for a beer… and another… and some cheese… and another beer… do we really need to have dinner? Meanwhile, I am yet to have come here and not meet someone who I’ve then had a chat with. I’m always thoroughly entertained on top of being sated… and a little drunk. What a wonderful place.

So many beers, so many ciders!!! This place is much more a store than a bar but still a great place to sample a few new drinks either inside or out. A easy place just to stop in for a cheeky drink with o riff raff of a pub. The boys behind the bar are knowledgeable and helpful too!

The move to a new location is a great improvement for Slowbeer. There are four rotating taps serving up a nice variety of beers that you’re bound to find one(or four) that you will like. There are a few tables out front that you can sit at or a large communal table inside where you can sit amongst the beer-lined shelves. Out back there is what will hopefully one day become a nice little beer garden, but for now there’s a bench, a lot of empty kegs and a huge pile of weeds. There are refillable growlers on offer, and a huge assortment of beers from Australia and all around the world. Most are on the shelf, but there are several in the fridge, and if you see something you like and want to drink while you’re there you can pop it in the fridge to cool down while you enjoy another. The staff are very knowledgeable. While we sat there enjoying a couple of beers a lot of people came to the counter asking for advice on what to get and the guy working there could answer every question and more. There were a few beers that I was keen on getting, one of which was $ 26 a bottle. It sounded great, but when I asked about how it was I was actually discouraged from buying it. I was told it was a great beer, but not worth the price, which I thought was great and very honest. I didn’t buy it, but I did end up adding a few more beers to our growing pile to take home. There are a couple of food options on offer, a Cheese Board and a Charcuterie Plate. I didn’t try them this time around, but I’ll definitely be back for more soon.

Good beer has not yet made it into the Australian mainstream so most stores and bars are a disappointment. Slowbeer, more of a store than a bar, is the exception. Despite the size they have an extensive selection, especially in terms of Belgians. I won’t write that they will have the exact beer you are looking for but they will have something new for you to try. They have a few beers on tap which rotate so do not assume that you will have the chance to try them the next time you are around. They even offer growlers to take home! Slowbeer is a quaint shop with the same feel as a café. The guy working there was friendly and quite knowledgeable. Most of the beers are kept on the shelf at room temperature but the shop is kept cool so the beers are drinkable. I wish there was more refrigeration to keep more beers cold for drinking on site. On the plus side, their website will give you an idea of what they have to offer and will allow you to order beer for delivery. The beers can be pricey but they are not overpriced. If you believe beer to be more than the crap sold in most places, Slowbeer is for you.

This place is very, very, very dangerous to my bank balance. It has moved to bigger premises in Richmond which allows them to serve beers on tap. The selection of beers is just phenomenal and is forever changing. The night i came, the guy behind the bar was very helpful, and helped me decide which beer to try on tap. He was very knowledgable on the beers as well. If i lived in Richmond, i think i would be here everyday. It has a good vibe and is very relaxed. The only thing you need to be wary of… you walk out with much more beer than you intended! Which i guess is a good thing!

Slowbeer is a cool little place just opened up near the Burnley St end of Bridge road. They have a wonderful selection of beers, mostly microbrews, and all sorts of interesting varieties. Prices range from the easy to handle to the special occasion beers. I dropped in here with a friend on Friday night, the place was quite full, we were able to secure a spot on the large centre share table and got a beer from on tap as well as something from the fridges. Along with a cheese platter this was a great stop on our way further along Bridge Road. The beer was lovely and the barman had a great knowledge of the brews both on tap and on the shelf. The one let down was the lack of knowledge about the cheeses on offer(all very lovely) however a sheet with some more details would have been appreciated. Great little bar to try out, as they expand the back area with more seating this looks to be a favourite haunt as it’s nice and close to work. I look forward to working my way through all the beers; I want to try one of each.
