The Lyre Bird Lounge is a small bar/tavern situated on the quiet Glen Eira Road in Ripponlea. There is something really nice about this bar even though to the naked eye it doesn’t look like much. There seems to always be a very alternative band playing there and sometimes I’ve heard the screaming singers from down the street but don’t let that put you off. The courtyard out the back is why it attracts me. In the summer I’ve been know to get a little take out food and sit out there with a beer and a few friends listening to whatever band is playing. The staff are really friendly and always up for a chat but could scare the faint hearted off due to the tattoos and piercings most of them possess. The grunge vibe gives it an «old-school» feel and means it’s a judgement free place, which is refreshing when it comes to pubs and clubs these days. Many times I’ve been able to hang out with friends as well as meet people and it’s all very relaxed and entertaining. It does take a little getting used to but once settled in it’s a pleasurable pub.
