I strongly disliked this place from day one and was dragged there several times kicking and screaming by my wife. If I could short private companies, I would’ve loaded up on this one. Fittingly, this review is a late, weak, small serve of schadenfreude on a bed of hideously overpriced, pretentious crap with a tepid cup of woeful service and terrible use of space. To make a warehouse feel cramped even without the prams is a misere achievement. It set a terrible example for the area and, well, this is where that kind of behaviour ends. I could go on but flogging dead horses isn’t usually my thing, suffice it to say you can pretty safely disregard the opinions of anyone who gave this place good reviews.

Been coming here most weekends when we are in Sydney. But Super Sadness has filled our hearts. Kitchen by Mike is no more… Until 2016??? Those coddled eggs in the big breakfast with bacon, sausages, mushrooms and tomatoes were just a great way to start the weekends. Was great while it was open.

I’ve been here now several times for both breakfast and lunch and the food never disappoints. The pluses : Sourdough pancakes with lemon curd. They make their own fresh juice — the Lime Vanilla lemonade is my favourite. The coffee is decent. Fresh ingredients. Deliciously unique salads! The serves are quite large so it’s possible to order as a shared side dish. Fresh sourdough bread and butter. You can choose between indoor and outdoor seating . Homewares-gift-furniture shop attached containing lots of quirky items. The minuses: There can be a long queue at the start of breakfast and lunch periods, but it moves fairly quickly. During busy periods there doesn’t seem to be enough staff to clear and clean the tables, which means you may have a stack of dirty plates and cups at your table whilst eating your meal . Parking can be difficult at any day of the week, so be prepared for a short walk — though this can be good for walking off a big meal!

Now that I live in the area, I’ll be frequenting this place a lot more. Like a lot more. The menu changes daily based on what the kitchen can get their hands on, and it’s kind of a cafeteria style setup they have going on. While it’s busy it shouldn’t be too hard to get seats, just note there’s a separate line to order for coffee/tea. I’ve enjoyed the several meals I’ve had here… so I can’t point out all the good dishes as they change it up all the time… Everything is fresh, farm to table and service ain’t bad either. If you feel like dessert just take a short stroll to Black Star Pastry… or look at the expensive but tastefully made home goods in the same area

Sorry guys but I’ve had to downgrade this place, in winter a hot Breaky consisting of Ham and Coddled Eggs should not arrive on a cold metal plate with Ham that’s unpleasantly cold served atop toast and cooling the eggs! Coddled eggs cold does make you want to vomit! I was hungry and it was not like I left it waiting on the plate!!! Staff at the counter are dedicated to taking your order yet when the place is 40% full you expect them to know the difference between pancakes and porridge!!! Coffee comes in varying quality and temperature and today’s was the worst, Luke warm as usual and tasty like mud! Nobody cares about you here and they just clear half eaten plates without asking was everything ok. No it was not ok, a premium venue charging top prices and crappy service! Really has been going downhill for a while now and today marks the last time we patron here. There’s plenty of choice in the area nowdays!

See big bearded Mike in the kitchen putting out fresh seasonal foods with something to please everybody. The industrial space has a lovely garden in the back to enjoy weather permiting. I over ordered with braised beef, roasted pumpkin, root beet lentil goat cheese salad, excellent bread and butter, and a pavlona for dessert. Ate the whole damn thing!

Kitchen By Mike never disappoints, it’s hearty combinations of meat and salad specials cater to even the pickiest of eaters. I love the warehouse vibe and canteen system, slap on your meat, salad, sides — Except the food here is actually good. The menu is always changing and the kitchen strives to offer unique and fresh flavors. Yesterday I ordered the aioli chicken with shaved persimmon salad, the meat was cooked to perfection and the salad(unlike most) had real personality. And a tip — Order the apple tart. Another huge plus is the quirky homewares/book/stationary store appended to the café, perfect for browsing on a full stomach. My only gripe is that the coffee is extremely bitter, but otherwise this will be a regular haunt.

Really enjoyed this place, very industrial vibe yet had hearty comfort food. There is a decent sized shop attached to the resturaunt with fantastic little knick knacks and random industrial inspired works. Had the chicken and turnip(delish!) along with the beetroot and lentil salad and the roast pumpkin. Would definitely be back.

So this place is awesome! All the food here is great, and each time you come the food will be different. So to try to explain it, this is a modern Australian cafeteria. So the food is made and you get to pick what you want and they place it on a plate. No assigned seating. Long tables. This place is loud, energetic and busy. However, this place is not cheap — but worth the money that you pay. In all honestly, you come here for the salads. The meat is good, but nothing is like the salads here. The biggest problem is that you want to try everything. And even though it is salad, you feel like a fatty wanting to try everything. The coffee is good, not great. But honestly you don’t come here for the coffee — but for the food. Also all the drinks here are cool. All I have to say is try the milkshakes. Try the milkshakes! There is no reservations here so it is on your luck to find a place. But as I said, giant tables — so sit next to anyone, strike up a conversation and enjoy the food!

All the food is so tasty and so good you’ll spend too much money and not eat for the rest of the day. Finally had the chance to try this place. I had been given mixed reviews from people saying it was a place for ‘dirty hipsters’ and the horrors of possibly having to share a table with a stranger. However now I’ve tried it I’m cutting off all ties with that person so they never stand between me and good food again. The food is amazing. It all rotates depending on what they have on offer, but there was still a wide selection to satisfy anyone. The only problem is you want to try all of it because it looks so good! The food is displayed behind glass and you ask the staff to make up your plate. No worries about it being fresh because there was a constant stream of people coming through. Despite the line, all the food is already made so it’s probably quicker than most restaurants anyway. Coffee was also tasty and staff were nice. Looking forward to my next visit.

One of my absolute favorite hidden cafes in Sydney. The prices are amazing for the gourmet food and experience. I loved watching the chefs prepare the food behind the counter, & the food is healthy and fresh!

Such wholesome, healthy food! I had toast with black tahini, labne and honey and a banana and granola smoothie served in a cute little milk bottle. I will definitely be back!

This place is awesome, the food is fresh with different meals available each day. Always hearty and delicious, with various vegetarian options available each time I have been. It can be a little more pricey than your average lunch depending what you order but you’re guaranteed to leave feeling full and satisfied. The industrial warehouse set up is really cool too. Definitely worth a visit! When I have friends visiting from out of town I like to take them here.

Got here at 10.30am for breakfast on a public holiday and the place was full but not overly crowded. Friends brought us here and recommended their breakfast menu and eggs! Our group ordered the big breakfast, the leg ham with smashed egg on toast, and eggs Benedict with avocado on the side. I had the leg ham with smash eggs and the leg ham was so tasty! They used coddled eggs in all their breakfast dishes so it’s a real treat for people who enjoy runny eggs over their toast. The big breakfast looked great too, served with sausage, bacon, sautéed mushroom and grilled tomatoes. Coffees were good here which is a plus. For hipster lovers, Kitchen by Mike is located in a warehouse with some retailers selling sustainable products. Kitchen by Mike also serves very healthy options for breakfast on their menu along with some health products for customers to purchase on their way home. I’d give this a 5 star if I could try the sourdough pancakes with lemon curd, one of their star dishes according to other reviews. Maybe next time!

Went here for breakfast with friends. The friend who recommended it said it gets very busy, and after trying the food I can believe it. I had the ham and egg on sourdough, which I really enjoyed because the egg was slow cooked perfectly, and it came with just a hint of Tabasco sauce. Everyone was happy with their meals — the sourdough pancakes with lemon curd was probably the highlight of the table, and I think I’ll get it myself next time. This place isn’t cheap, but you get what you pay for. The café part is attached to a design store, full of trendy housewares. It was kinda cool to wander around after our meal. We also got a bit of honeycomb to share, which was fantastic — they cut it right off the frame as you’re at the counter, so you can’t get much fresher or natural than that!

I have been here since 7am and am on my 3rd coffee and it’s looking like I am probably going to consume at least 3 more before the day is out! Yeah I am! There are few things I love more than shooting fashion — but having Kitchen by Mike as the catering next door is definitely topping my list. I adore this space, it’s like being in the garden of eden but with handsome baristas who sadly all have their clothes on. Okay, so its basically nothing like the garden of eden — but there is a garden and there is SO much temptation. Bacon and egg roll, fresh squeezed OJ, museli with yogurt. And that was just my starter… If you are out this way — DONOTMISSTHISPLACE. Looking forward to my next 7 hours here.

Heard about this place a lot on Instagram so as usual it was a must visit but of course with life commitments you tend to call in on it months are your initial thought of visiting! We got there 10 minutes to 8am on Saturday(because that’s when they open) so of course the place was empty except for the staff which was great coz we got to choose a prime position to sit! I did not realise that the Kitchen was part of the Koskela warehouse where the owners Russel Koskela and Sasha Titchkosky produce«Australian furniture that is beautiful, functional and durable»(taken from their website) … will you look at that you learn something new everyday! We ordered the Sourdough pancakes with Lemon Curd $ 14, Big Breakfast $ 20 and Eggs benedict/royale $ 13. Everything was back to basics, you order at the counter then take a number and a seat and they bring it out to you. In addition, to the usual breakfast menu they also have pastries/cakes on offer if you are not quite hungry. The cutlery was in an old tomato tin tub which added the rustic look, food was served in tin plates like the kind you take camping. Food was sensational! My eggs benedict came on a bun and all the sauce and the egg oozed out goodness! I scraped the plate… literally! Pancakes were divine. After we had finished breakfast we waiting around till 9am as that was the time Koskela opened so we could peruse the designs. Families and groups are welcome here, Great way to start the weekend!

We’ve been trying to get here for ages, but only just managed last weekend and were impressed by the layout. It’s a really comfortable space with plenty of seating. It has a great concept of USA school canteen type service which is good if you catch them in the switch-over so you can grab stuff before it sells out. We had some of the salads and I had the pork belly *drool*. Good little selection of wines and the meals were just the right size to fill you up without needing dessert. Good coffee as mentioned elsewhere, but great food and relatively friendly staff.

GREATCONCEPT !! Love this place to bits — yep I feel like that little girl in kindy who’s just claimed a best friend — Kitchen By Mike — will you be my best friend? When you first walk through the gates, the most amazing smell greets you. oh yes, I’m talking about that woodfire oven smell! Oh this is going to be good. It only gets better from here. You walk into this warehouse converted café and a second wave of the most delicious smell hits you — its all that food sitting there on show for all to see and order. It’s a buffet style dining — they lay out a heap of food, you point to the food you want, they pile it sky high on your plate, move you along where you pay for what you’ve chosen and off you go to enjoy some incredible food. Coffee, tea and Milfei went down a treat too so make sure you stay for that hot cuppa and a hit of sugar. I’m told breakfast is well worth it — I can see this may just become a regular.
