«I got my haircut in this store.» «In the clothes store?!? Ha ha.» «Yes. Yes I did.» DONOTBEFOOLED. Blow your mind as it may, Pretty bird is both a hairdresser and a clothes store. And succeeds at both. Upon walking past you wouldn’t really know it, as the hairdresser is hidden out the back, and only word of mouth brought me in for a haircut. Only in Balmain, huh? Oh, and there’s some jewellery for sale too. One stop for fashion really. Walk in a hobo, walk out all spiffy-looking for a night only the town. But once again, do not be fooled! This place is full of surprises! Whilst the sign does say that the store provides both men and women’s clothing, after asking at the counter, only women’s are available. And make an appointment for a haircut, as there is no guarantee you can get it on the spot — as I said, it does both fashion and hairdressing well, and can book out on those peak hours. I came in on my second attempt, and they managed to squeeze in a men’s haircut without an appointment. Although when I asked if I might take a moment to finish the phone call I was on before sitting in the hairdressers chair, the answer was quick and fast. «No.» The brusque-ish staff tell it like it is, and may not always make eye contact, but they are accommodating and do what they can for you, and I find that respectable. But perhaps, if you’re looking for a little more time spent on you, either make an appointment for the hairdresser or have a browse on your own — they may or may not be interested in serving you as a customer. Give it a go yourself and report back to us on your experience! Long story short, at $ 20, the haircut was very cheap, expecially in Balmain, and I was happy with the product. Success, a return customer!
