This shop is amazing. It is a little slice of heaven(actually a giant serving of heaven) in my mouth. This is ofcourse my opinion. But it is very difficult for me to find hot dogs & burgers that I will eat as I am very picky with ingredients and sauces, and this place wins as I can order a hot dog and not have to change anything on it at all. There are many options to choose from, something for everyone. I drove an hour just to go there today. I had the Brooklyn hot dog and a serve of chilli cheese chips(which are soo amazing). Trying this place for yourself is a must.

No eft? I thought we where in the 21st century… Entering this American style café take away bar it looked promising and hearing from online forums that had raved about there hotdogs I looked forward to seeing what all the fuss was about. The first thing I noticed was the prices seemed rather high for what I was ordering but assumed high price would lead to a large serving. But sadly this was not the case I ordered a hotdog medium cheesy fries and a ice tea coming to $ 22 Once receiving my meal I notice my cheesy fries are in a tiny box and wrapped in aluminium foil was what looked like half of my hotdog. The quality if the meal was nothing to get excited about. All up a very over priced simple meal.

I was excited to try this place out, as I am a big fan of the American style diner experience. First thing I noticed was it’s a tiny store! There were only 4 seats along the window and another 4 along the side of the counter, and a few tables outside. We started out sitting in the window seats and were practically sitting in another couple’s lap, so we moved outside which was better. If you don’t want to sit outside and don’t like being too close to strangers, get takeaway and wander down to the beach :) We ordered a serve of wings, a hotdog, chill fries and a serve of cornbread. We did have to wait quite a while for our food and it all came out in bits and pieces, which was annoying because it meant we didn’t get to eat together unless one of us ate cold food :/ Okay that’s enough on the negatives, onto the good things! The food serving sizes were great for the price. We couldn’t finish the fries between 2 of us. The chill was really nice and I loooove that deliciously unhealthy liquid cheese on top. The cornbread was also really fluffy and nice. The wings were well cooked and had lots of sauce, but the BBQ sauce had a bit too much tang for me and I couldn’t finish them. Overall I will go back here, but I will plan to get takeaway. And I’ll try a different sauce on my wings!

As I’m writing this I have a gut ache. My stomach is bloated and I just want someone to put me out of my misery. I once praised New York Dreams. I loved their hotdogs years ago, even persuaded people to go there. It was good sh%t! I hadn’t been since September 2012. Maybe due to the fact we’d just done City to Bay anything would’ve tasted amazing, my hunger was like that of a zombie with the desire to devour flesh(well a huge hotdog and chilli fries in my case). In my opinion it was delicious. I’m singing a different tune now. If you want a hotdog you are better off going to Wendy’s. Maybe I’m becoming too much of a food snob? But I expected better quality than what I got. The chilli con carne in my hotdog was salty, the cheesy fries were salty. I love salt don’t get me wrong, but my oesophagus feels like I had just taken a shot glass of table salt. It burns. Also the liquid cheese tastes a little different to what I remember. It saddens me to say it but the quality has gone down a fair bit to my last experience. Nothing stands out any more. Perhaps because there are other american food joints that offer a more personal and creative experience with their food? I am sorry New York Dreams but it was a nightmare on this occasion.

On first impression, the place already looked promising — decked out in basketball memorabilia, bench seating and a slushie machine on the side for good measure. Got myself the Tuesday specials — ALLYOUCANEATWINGS for $ 15.95! It was too good a bargain(yes, I’m fairly asian that way) to pass up and hey, they’ve even got 4 different types of seasoning for you to pick from — Buffalo(spicy), BBQ, Honey Soy and Honey BBQ. I tried the Buffalo(definitely has a spicy kick), the BBQ and the Honey Soy(sweet). And my verdict? They definitely taste(and smell) like what they sound. Generously covered with the sauce of your choice, the wings weren’t scrawny tiny little things either, which was great. Okay, now we move on to the Chilli Cheese Fries… which is a-m-a-z-i-n-g. Not the best I’ve had, but still really really good. Trust me, try it. Or don’t trust me, but still try it. I don’t really care, but, TRYIT. At the end of the meal I got myself a milkshake. Now, I don’t usually drink milkshakes, but this one, is worth ordering(even by le cheapskate, me). I’d like it slightly thicker, but heck it’s good as it is. I’d personally recommend the Chocolate and Peanut Butter. Oreo was also good, Caramel wasn’t overly sickeningly sweet and Chai tasted like Chai. In other words, yums! Only 2 things to watch out for if you’re dining in:(1) if you’re a mozzie magnet like me, be warned.(2) If you have long thick hair like me, it might end up reeking of oil if you sit indoors. Nothing major. Will I be going back? Heck yeah. But perhaps this time I’ll try the hotdogs instead…

Well i will be going back! My first visit here… first impressions… american style décor, bench seating, quite small but adequate… smelt great! The service was friendly and although i had to to q up it wasn’t a long wait. I had the Harlem Chilli Dog and my partner had Chilli Cheese Fries. We had to wait probably 10 minute for food to arrive, was presented well, in a cardboard tray(regardless of eat-in or takeaway). The hotdog tasted great, ample amounts of chilli sauce, cheese and mustard. Same with the fries… decent serving size. The Chilli maybe wasnt as spicy as thought it be… but maybe a good thing so i could taste the other flavours. My next visit will be to check out the wings and philly cheese steaks!!!

New York Dreams is a little slice of American goodness in the outer beach suburbs of Adelaide and goes right into the heart of American cuisine — namely the true American hotdog. The store is really cute and has NY basketball memorabilia all over the walls a television playing NY themed shows. They sell all different kinds of hotdogs from the traditional favourites to more gourmet options. Despite thinking my eating experience would be amazing, sadly it wasn’t. The store has so much potential and whilst the hotdogs were ok, as the highlight of their menu and whole eating establishment, I thought they would be better than they were. The process is sort of like Subway for hotdogs and they let you pick the kind of bread you want and offer three different kind of hotdogs including Kransky. They also offer a range of other food including tacos and nachos and a dessert range with some really yummy looking cupcakes. I think it is a really good idea, different from most other places in Adelaide — and owned by a 36’er player, you know it has true American influences.

Other than my Hot and Spicy Trident Noodles(which are spastically good) I reckon I would have had Hotdogs more than any other food. Mainly because they are quick when on the run, but I was also pretty much addicted to Wendys Dogs for a while in my early 20’s(BBQ dog with Onion Butter, Cheese and a dash of hot chilli to be precise). When I saw New York Dreams the other day on Semaphore Road I almost wet myself, surely they would have brilliant hot dogs! Well, firstly I really had to talk myself into buying the CHEAPEST one… which was $ 6.95…FOR A HOTDOG. Sauce and Mustard was all the extra added. Why didn’t I go for one of the other dogs with more adventurous toppings? I may be a tubby be-atch, but there is no way I am pay $ 8+ for a friggin hotdog! They also have wings etc. on the menu, but the hotdog put a big enough dent in my wallet. I would LOVE to give this place a big rap, but they really need to knock 20% off of their prices across the board… then we’ll talk! Just for the record, the dog was good.
