Came to Kazbar for a quick meal and some cheeky cocktails before seeing a show. We were seated outside on a nice Melbourne night. Staff were attentive yet when asked what was in their ‘Apple Crumble’ cocktail, the waitress had no idea and had to check — hmmm. My friend had the ‘Apple Crumble’ and I had a ‘Long Island Iced Tea’ very nice but at $ 18 they could have been better. We ordered a few sharing plates Baby squid and chorizo with paprika aioli, Chicken and lime soft shell taco with avocado and salsa and Lamb Kibbeh, with haloumi and toasted pine nuts. All 3 were delicious and very reasonably priced. All in all we were very satisfied with out experience at Kazbar. Oh, the waiter informed us that they will be bringing a Happy Hour ‘soon’

Yum yum yum! We were looking for a quick dinner on Friday night before heading into a movie at the Jam Factory. There’s heaps of variety of Chapel Street as Melbournites would know but on a Friday night, bookings are essential unless you’re heading to a cheap chain restaurant. Walking up and down the boulevard we weren’t massively hungry but knew we probably would be half way through the movie. Most restaurants were full — except for one. Just diagonal from the Jam Factory was Kazbar. It wasn’t as busy as the other restaurants around and it served tapas so it met all our requirements. We entered and ordered a cocktail — a French martini for just $ 10. It was delicious and I drank it in as many as two sips. Perfect Friday night celebration. On to the food and as I said, we weren’t too hungry so opted for three plates of tapas. Salt and pepper squid, lamb with haloumi cheese and chorizio. If we were hungry we would’ve opted for more as this wasn’t enough for a meal, but we had another French Martini instead! The food came out pretty quickly — but not so quick that made you question the freshness of it out the back. The first cocktail was quick but as the restaurant got busier so did the cocktail man. The staff were really lovely and for me this makes all the difference. I hate tipping in Australia — I mean eating out is expensive enough and being a former waitress I know the pay is good — but in this case I tipped. Perhaps it was the happy high from the Martinis. Nothing but love for Kazbar. Will order more food next time as my only complaint is the size of the portions was small. But then again, I could with a few smaller meals.

Kazbar seriously know how to make coffee. The bar itself is not overflowing with atmosphere, but it’s worth a visit for their coffee alone, which is the best that I’ve had in at least a two block radius from this location(having used to work just nearby). They have a small, but impressive Mediterranean influenced menu. The pizzas are particularly good — be sure to try the lamb and spinach pizza yoghurt!

Kazbar is a refreshing hide out from all the hustle and bustle on Chapel Street. You may choose to escape the loud noise and vibrance of the outdoors by venturing into the stylishly understated dining area inside or you may choose to be amoungst the liveliness in their very popular alfresco seating outside. Whatever the choice make sure you get yourself a coffee, the barista’s here at Kazbar definitly know a thing or two about making quality coffee and with an extensive yet simple menu to match this venue is a great option for a Sunday breakfast or late weekday lunch. You may choose from things like Tapas and Grazing Platters — great for groups or if your just after something to nibble on, or if your afetr a satisfying meal go for something like the home made Moussaka or the Grilled Chicken Breast, both equally as tasty. Kazbar chooses to embrace the life of Chapel Street and being located at the top end in South Yarra it is an affordable eating option amoungst the higher end restaurants.
