I was really looking forward to checking out Rah Bar, the place looks cool on the outside and even nicer on the inside. The place is well laid out and had good music with chill out areas in case you don’t want to dance. So why did I rate this place one star? The only star is because the layout was nice I want to go and visit it again. Otherwise my experience was horrible and simply because of incompetent staff. I called up the bar earlier and asked what the dress code was, I was cheekily told don’t come naked etc. etc. Then was told the real dress rules are no runners and no torn jeans, so I asked specifically if I was allowed to wear a hat & I was told cheekily«as long as it doesn’t have ears». I rock up to the bar and am told«this is not a hats kind of place», to which I responded to the seco that I pre-called and was allowed to wear it; to which he just stared at me with a blank face. Later on when I made it up the bar to order a drink(there was one other person waiting — hardly a busy night for four bartenders), I was served by a cocky middle aged partender with so many buttons undone on his shirt that he obviously thought he was playing John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever. I wanted a cocktail but was a bit weary his chest hair might be the garnish, I ordered two cocktails to which I was met with the word«No» and he served the next person. I looked at him and shouted«are you serious?», to which he ignored. He came back to me and I asked«What can you make me mate, two margaritas?», the same answer was given«No» and he goes off to serves the next person. Obviously I had a pretentious bartender who was either just being an asshole, or hiding inability with acting like an asshole. The next guy who served me was much nicer and explained that they are not doing cocktails tonight as it is too busy, it seems Rah Bar you are in need of much more competent staff as you are missing out on a better crowd.

Rah Bar is a rad find. It is just off Toorak Road and perfectly situated right next to the South Yarra train station. Taking its style cues from Morocco it is a really nice mix of relaxing and sophisticated, a hard balance to find in such a huge space. Rah bar is one of the few bar/clubs in Melbourne that I have found that offers table service, with patrons able to buy their own bottle of spirits and mixers which they can enjoy in a private booth. If enjoying a balmy summer night in a leafy courtyard is more your style, Rah Bar has got it covered — the leafy beer garden is the perfect spot to enjoy a jug of sangria or Pimms. Rah Bar is the kind of place you can enjoy seeing friendly faces behind the bar as you kick back and enjoy the treasures it has to offer. Oh and don’t miss two for one cocktails between 4 and nine on a Friday night.
