*** 100th First Review *** If you want to drive the scenic and shorter route from Richmond to Springwood and the Blue Mountains, this is how to do it. From Richmond you take Castlereagh Road to the west and then turn right at Agnes Banks. BTW, Agnes Banks is a great spot to walk on the river bank. Lots of water birds here and a nice trail — especially good at dawn and dusk. At Agnes Banks is the start of Springwood Road which takes you across the Nepean River and then rises from the coastal plain. Just before the road changes its name to Hawkesbury Road, on your left you’ll see the parking area to the Hawkesbury Lookout. You must stop here and catch the view in this area known as Hawkesbury Heights. Hawkesbury Lookout is situated on the eastern escarpment providing panoramic views over the Yellowmundie Regional Park to the Nepean River and Cumberland Plains. On a clear day the Sydney skyline is visible to the east. There is a park with picnic tables. It’s a nice little break stop for a while before you continue on your way.
