Aside from The Local, the Dick is my other favourite pub but it’s a bit more chilled out and casual. I’ve been here so many times and I love the place — there’s outdoor seating along Chapel St, there’s a bar area inside which is good for a beer with mates and there’s a more fancy restaurant space which has been spruced up recently. There’s also an upstairs area too which is for functions but I didn’t check that out. We were in for dinner and I fancied something light so just had a platter of dips which was lovely. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the falafel chips it’s served with but no big deal. It was actually a generous portion and would definitely do for a main at dinner. I tried some of the chicken parma and it was lovely as well, nice and crispy. Staff are friendly and welcoming and there’s even some familiar faces from when I used to live down the road 6+ years ago. So that’s nice to see!

This place is the shiz. My first check in but I’ve been here too many times to count. Fantastic staff who are down to earth, lovely and look after you well. No egos in this place. Great pub grub and good food specials most nights of the week. Nothing fancy, but the Parma is good and the pizzas are always well received. I think the chips are rubbish but some friends swear by them, so there you go. If you branch out into something a bit fancier, like a piece of salmon or pasta, you won’t be disappointed. Huge portions. The chilli prawn pasta is bloody fantastic and always hits the spot. There is a pokies room out the back and behind that a hidden car park which is a total find in this part of town. But it’s generally just a great south side pub that’s relaxed and has $ 14 jugs sometimes. Sport is always on the Telly. It’s one of my favs. For a few years now these guys have hosted our annual xmas gathering which 40+ adults and a handful of kids attend, which is generally pretty rowdy and fun. And the staff are always fantastic and supportive and lovely. And you can order and pay at the bar. Win.

This pub hosts a great trivia night on Tuesdays. There were many tvs for sports with a standard pub menu. Definitely would go back of in the area.

Some friends invited us to dinner at Dick Whittington Tavern, as Wednesday nights are«blokes» night: Half-off the menu! Good company and a 50% discount, naturally we’d say, «Yea!» «The Dick»(as is the local vernacular) is an interesting restaurant/pub/casino/liquor shop on Chapel Street in East St. Kilda. We parked in the rear, where(coming in) you make your way(first) through a Las Vegas-style gaming room filled with one-arm bandits(slot machines), then(through some saloon swing doors) into a pub complete with pool tables, then finally(through another set of doors) into the large dining room. I’d’ve never known it from the Chapel Street façade… I’m not sure if The Dick intended its«blokes» night to be what it is, but the joint was filled-to-the-rafters with a majority of «men’s men»(if you know what I mean), with a smattering of the gentler sex!!!(A mostly mature crowd of burly– or burlier-types.) ;)(We had 7p reservations and the place was fairly empty. In an hour’s time the room was packed.) The layout and design of the dining room is very pleasant, with good-sized windows everywhere, relatively good space between the numerous tables and chairs, and large open bar, all complemented by a very inviting and friendly staff. Naturally, the 50% discount means absolutely nothing if the food ain’t good. In all honesty, I was really surprised at how good it was! Our table’s orders ranged from the Baked Blue Eye($ 32), to the Spaghetti with Pan-Friend Chili Prawns($ 25), to the Chicken Parmagiana($ 23). Their eclectic selection of pizzas were $ 17(for a small) and $ 24(for a large). I ordered the Afghan Chicken Curry(oven roasted chicken breast cooked in Middle Eastern spices with chickpeas, served on basmati rice and a few Naan bread slices)($ 29). [Remember, these are all original prices, less 50% off on Wednesdays.] My dish was very, very good(if not the most attractive): Fine flavors, and a particularly moist and good-sized chicken breast. The chickpea sauce was flavorful, but not very spicy. Basmati rice was cooked well. Naan bread slices made nice little triangles to load the meal on and eat rustically with my fingers. In fact, everyone’s orders all looked really good and hearty. Overall, the entire evening was very successful. Without doubt we will return for another night with the«blokes,» as this Dick really grows on you!!!(PS: «Dick Liquor» — yes, that’s the name — is right next door. Gambling, pool, dinner, and a bottle for home!!! The Dick takes care of all your needs!!!) :D

Its good to find a pub in this side of town. No expectations and not pretentious. I come here often to meet a mate that lives close by. Its a relaxed place and the Pizzas are YUM. Great place to watch the footy with friends too. I love Dick Whittington. My kind of pub.

The Dick is a pretty standard pub and tavern that serves quite decent pub food(like chicken parmigiana, etc) and has a pretty fun trivia night on Wednesday nights, at which it’s not too difficult to score jugs of beer for winning rounds. It has to be said though, that my favourite thing about ‘the Dick’ is the attached bottle shop — ‘the Dick Liquor’(see the photo if you don’t believe me). The 15-year-old boy in me will always laugh when passing the Dick, and for that alone, it should be celebrated.
