Friendly staff coupled with a live music scene and open fire had this place jump to my must revisit list. The drinks were priced about average. I had A few G&T’s with house gin being close to $ 9 and top shelf about $ 11.

I only recently discovered that this was also a famous live band venue. Until I recently read an article in The Age, I thought the only famous live band venue in St Kilda was the Espy. Well, now I know otherwise, and now I have a second pub on my list to visit when I go for a live band binge in St Kilda sometime in the near future. Beside that, this pub is really cool, especially the section out the front where you can sit by the fence and watch everybody wander past. I was a little concerned about the cage where the DJ sits, but then at least it is not chicken wire, otherwise I probably would give this place a miss. However, from my couple of visits here I really do like this place and definitely plan on coming back again sometime soon.

The Prince of Wales Hotel in the seaside Saint Kilda area of Melbourne is a wonderful place to stay. It’s a five minute walk from the front door to the most popular beach in Melbourne, dozens of restaurants are a five, to ten minute walk. There’s plenty to keep you entertained in the hotel itself: Il Fornaio Bakery is the perfect place for breakfast, The Prince Bandroom is a concert and entertainment venue, Aurora Spa offers a full menu of body treatments, the Hotel Wine Shop stocks a wide assortment of vintages including an impressive array of local Aussie wines, Circa Restaurant is itself a major draw in Melbourne with several dining options including the main dining room, the atrium and balcony. Public transit is superb in Melbourne which boasts the largest trolley system in the world. There’s a convenient tram stop right at the hotel’s doorstep ready to whisk you anywhere in the city. The Prince of Wales was my introduction to Australia, where I arrived after my twenty hour plus flight from North America. A perfect introduction to life down under. My room was comfortable, the environment was peaceful, and tranquil.

Had a quick pint here before dinner. Seems like the kind of place that wouldn’t be too upset if you threw up on the floor. By which I mean I’ll come back the next time I want to drink a lot of beer!

I used to visit this place every Saturday and Sunday, then something has changed, or too much has changed. The New owners have removed the charm of this place in one big go! The Place used to have a VIBE to it, and now well it has lost its charm and its customers. I went back in to investigate why and well the place is a total mish mash now its changed the way it was to a new direction and its not the right one. The Prince was for a beer and a game of pool, a few sports on the TV, now its commercial TV and well no customers or pool tables to play pool on. Hopefully the new owners see the mistake in their way and the customers will return, they have a chance to win us back, but need to do it before the summer sun gets out. Otherwise we might find somewhere else to water our hole.
