In the middle of Fitzroy street of St Kilda, with a tram stop right out the front(very handy) Many drinks on offer, cocktails, beers — whatever you want. Asian inspired food platters, sushi, roasted almond prawns, as confusing as they were for me — I had to have 4 just to make sure I didn’t like them — did I not like them? No. As well as your usual dips ect. Not bad.

Walking from Chapel Street to St Kilda is no mean feat. As my friend and I walked and walked and stopped to ask people for directions and then walked some more… we passed this awesome place. Hearing the smooth sounds of live music(Lionel Richie) we sat down by the window inside and ordered cocktails, drinks and food. Without having realised it was a gay bar(not that there is anything wrong with that) the waitress was awesome, quick, friendly and super knowledgeable. We ordered some of the chicken and tempura vegies and they came out the freshest we’d ever had with regards to quick tapas on the go and as we enjoyed the Sunday afternoon live music, we eventually made it to the beach. Highly regarded and will definetely go again!

Not the biggest place in the Melbourne but definitely has long opening hours, with unsigned talent mid week to house music down stairs and r&b upstairs robarta caterers for all crowds plus it has various lounge areas both down stairs and up stairs to get away from the crowd that tends to build from 3am to 6am over weekends.

Robarta’s delicious Asian style menu offers a selection of affordable Japanese and Chinese tapas as well as mains dishes suitable for sharing or as individual meals. The urban restaurant also has a great selection of vegetarian options to choose from, as well as an extensive cocktail list which has now become quite well renowned. Expect to pay approximately $ 7-$ 15 per dish, which is extreme value for money considering the quality of the meals. The tables outside on energetic Fitzroy Street are perfect for enjoying some late afternoon snacks while the ambience inside is ideal for a wine and banquet for dinner. At night, the spot comes alive over 2 floors with resident DJ’s playing everything from commercial house music to RnB. Being one of the only establishments in the area that is open til 7am, the venue is popular amongst those who wish to dance until sunrise. Robarta is also open to hosting functions for all occasions.

Open 7 days until 5am during Summer, Robarta is a special place, going from an Asian inspired tapas restaurant to a chilled out bar right through to a dance club is a pretty good effort I think! I have been to Robarta many times, I love it. I think I even had my 20th birthday there, which started with dinner with close family and friends, some of which were vegetarian so the Asian tapas dishes were perfect, lots of tofu and veggie things to choose from. To later on as more of my friends arrived we sipped on classy cocktails listening to some smooth, relaxing sounds while the dj set up. Later in the evening to early morning let’s just say the music was pumping drinks were flowing and feet were dancing. Robarta has two great levels upstairs is open mainly for the clubber’s, and with a curfew of 7am on the weekends whats not to love?

Robarta starts in the early evening as a restaurant, then turns into a cocktail lounge, then into a full fledged nightclub with DJ’S spinning right through til 7 am. I havent been there all the way through the transition, so I have no idea how they go from dinner into the later part of the evening, but Im gathering it works just fine because its been running like that for a while now. As a bar/club, its pretty good. The crowd is not your super young, straight out of highschool and onto their red p’ s kind of crowd, which is nice(just realised Im getting old… ugh), but it is a dance party crowd, especially the later it gets. By 4am the heavier dance music starts and thats my cue to leave and head to bed(wow I really am getting old), though many go the whole hog and traipse out in time for breakfast down the road, or even a day club if they’re super eager. As far as Melbourne nightlife goes, its pretty good, though it apparent from re-reading through my post that I’ll soon be heading out of the nightclubs and into the local bingo scene… Actually, that sounds fun. Anyone know of any Bingo halls?
