Coffee is good, service is pretty poor. The sandwiches are good but a little pricey for sandwiches

This is the first place I’ve seen with an American sized coffee. Their x-large coffee is about 12 ounces which is impressive and warms my oversized American heart. Other than that though its a pretty generic café. I certainly wouldn’t complain if I works in the surrounding offices and had this as my regular lunch time spot. Coffee was delicious and the other food offerings looked good but I did not partake.

I enter the semi-artisanal space and take my place in the queue. In front of me are several fitness professionals, who don’t appear to be in very good shape. I communicate my desires to the woman at the till. She asks my name. I resign myself to the rear of the space, head down, phone up. Ham and cheese are pressed into the soft dough of a croissant born off-premise. Murmurs abound, discussions of work, of weekends, of children. Amongst the noise, I hear my name. Donovan flat white? It isn’t a question; it’s an Australian accent. I take my coffee and sip. Flavours fill my mouth. I get the faintest hint of coffee in a medley of toilet related flavours. I imagine the same sensation is attainable by running my tongue along the floor of a recently finished Zumba class. I digress. I depart.

Awesome sambos, salads and coffee are waiting to be found in this workerbee and gym rat inhabited spot. Everything is under $ 10 too(does that EVER happen in Sydney?). My guilt I always get from not being at the attached Fitness First working out subsides when I have to walk directly uphill to get back to work.(Bonus!) Add in friendly waitstaff and great service = I highly recommend this place.

I have been visiting Zachs now for the best part of three years, as our office is nearby. When you visit a café there are a few things you look for; well, at least I do. Firstly, the range and quality of the food; Secondly, the ambience; Thirdly, the service and the real interest the staff show you as an individual, moreso than a customer; and last but not least, the price. I have to say that Zachs ticks all the boxes. Zach, the owner, is a champion for quality, for value and for customer service. His ingredients are fresh and the range is impressive, catering for breakfast, for lunch, including sandwiches, salads, pasta dishes, etc. His team will also work with you if you want to customise a dish. It’s never a drama. The coffee is also excellent. They make and serve with pride. There is loyalty too, with an app that you install on the iPhone to get a free coffe. Zach personally gets to know you, is sincerely interested in you, wants your feedback on the food and will make changes. Being English, I got him to stock Branston Pickle for a time so that I could enjoy a nice Cheese and Pickle sandwich. If you haven’t tried it you should. Only open weekdays, so if you are in the area put them on your list.
