I am not a big fan of it as most of the things they offer is fried! They do have sushi as well, but that tastes dry and old. Sanwidches are ridiculously expensive. You have the options to make your own at the sandwhich bar, but usually it comes up to at least $ 7 for only a tiny amount of filling. In general any kind of food around the UQ campus is way more expensive than anywhere else.

The last time I went to UQ was 12 years ago and boy have things changed. This place is no longer the sad and grey building it once was with thing but a few vending machines and muesli bars to its name. Now it’s pretty rocking I must say… they have sushi, they have hot food, your fried food, your own make your own wrap or sandwich bar… a full drinks fridge and it’s great. They even have pink grapefruit drinks… fancy! Now that I’m a staff member I can even use the cool staff area with the comfy seats. There is great coffee too, for a 12 ounce cup of coffee it’s $ 4 and it’s well worth it. The coffee is brewed to perfection and the Chai Latte’s are really awesome too. I’m a big fan of the place!

The UQ refecs had been going downhill for a long time, but have all recently had refurbs. While the main refec gained a few chain stores like Subway and Boost, the Physiol refec has stayed true to the union, but has upped its game. It now has heaps of nice seating, both inside and out, and the range of food on offer is pretty impressive. There’s the standard array of golden fried food that you’d expect from a university refec, but there’s also a decent range of sushi rolls, selling for $ 2 – 2.50 each, scones(with or without fruit) made fresh every morning($ 1.40 and they’re huge), bacon and egg muffins for breakfast($ 3.40), a make-your-own sandwich bar that offers around 10 different types of bread(be careful though, you pay by weight) and a small range of fresh fruit like bananas and apples. I’m a fan and am all in favour of supporting the union and its independently run campus establishments.
