Service fantastic. Attentive and prompt. Set menu delightful cuisine. French influence. Loved dessert and pre dessert Sorbet. Second visit and will highly recommend we come again.

French cuisine at its best. After a warm greeting, we were seated at our table. The menu came out and you get a choice of ordering 2 courses or 3 courses. If you opt for 3, make sure your hungry. I had the French onion soup. OMG so cheesy and flavorsome. Followed by the steak with beurnaise sauce and fries. Previously I’ve had the seafood crêpe which is delicious as well. So many great dishes on the menu. The staff are super friendly and happy to answer any questions. A great place for«date night»

One of my favourite French bistros anywhere! It starts with the staff who are friendly, do their most to make you welcome, provide good service and yet are never in the way. The menu has a good combination of classics and some modern variations taking advantage of the best the west has to offer in ingredients. I especially recommend a seafood starter and a heavier main to get through the minimum two courses! Though if you have a sweet tooth you may opt for a main, again the execution is key, the sweetness is always balanced with bitterness or tartness. Finally the wine list, it has some great drops from their home country and from more locally, not too overpriced either.

I visit here regularly and have never been disappointed. Food is always amazing and service is the right mix of leaving you alone and topping up your drink when you need it.

I liked this but hubby didn’t. The food is very well created and presented but as it is traditional French it can be a bit inaccessible for some palates. The desserts are exquisite and staff are lovely. And the people watching is hilarious :)

Please visit my blog post for the full review Food and presentation — 4⁄5 The food at Bistro des Artistes was fantastic. It’s been a while since we’ve enjoyed every morsel of our meal without complaints before dessert! Usually RN or I will always have some complaint by mains. My oysters were really fresh and I liked the vinaigrette that accompanied the oysters. DT’s salmon was perfectly seasoned and went well with the sourdough and salad but my favourite entrée of all would have to be RN’s oeuf coccotte with cepes mushroom, it tasted absolutely sensational and had a rich mushroom taste which was so good with the bread soldiers. Our mains were all really yummy. My squid was cooked perfectly and the squid was so fresh and naturally sweet, it was amazing. DT’s lamb was perfectly medium rare and again was just beautiful and RN’s duck was so tasty. We could not fault anything and were all nice and quiet during mains because we were enjoying it so much. After mains, we were presented with a platter of cheese with grapes and bread, unfortunately or fortunately I was the only one who can eat all the cheeses. I can’t exactly remember what cheeses they were but it was a blue cheese, aged cheddar and a brie. Beautiful cheeses which were wasted because I could not finish it all by myself. Before dessert was served, we were given a pre-dessert of caramel rice pudding, it was nice but nothing spectacular. Our desserts arrived and they were all nice but nothing spectacular and this was the point when the complaints started. Actually, RN loved her dessert and was still quiet, the berry tart was pretty good. DT’s crème brûlée was good although nothing special, DT commented that it was a bit too big(not sure if that is a positive or negative comment). Okay, it was me that had the complaint, it’s always me… the il flottante(or floating island) is basically meringue with a custard sauce and drizzled with praline and caramel sauce. The first couple of bites were not bad, it was not something I’ve had before and the texture was interesting but it quickly became way too sweet and I was unable to finish it — it just didn’t do much for me. Our petits fours arrived with our coffee and tea but it was a bit of a shame that they were slightly wet. I couldn’t quite tell what flavour they were and we weren’t told but it had a hint of lemon flavour and I’ve had better macaroons. I would’ve given them a higher score if dessert was better because I really do think the entrée and mains deserve at least a 4.5÷5 but dessert which was nice but just not great brought the score down. Shame. Service — 3.5÷5 Our waiter was cute and French and we had some communication problems. He was ever so helpful, checked in on us and was very friendly but unfortunately was also a bit forgetful and didn’t quite understand what pregnancy means in terms of what they can and can’t eat. For example, for the oeuf cocotte we explained to him that pregnant women can’t have raw egg and can we have the egg cooked through but the dish came out with raw egg on top so we asked him if it can be cooked through. He took it back to the kitchen and it returned without the egg or the bread soldiers with no explanation of why the egg was removed but we just assumed it probably works better without the raw egg than to ruin the dish by overcooking it(we had ask for the bread soldiers). We also had another lady serve us now and again but she was not very friendly. Alain was here tonight looking after the front of house and he was so lovely and friendly. I was walking around taking photos and the chef said hi and he said I could take a photo of him and Alain was also there and we had a nice casual chat. Later that night, I walked past the kitchen again and told the chef that the food was awesome and Alain and the chef both said thank you and said they would like to see us again. I feel a bit rude that I didn’t ask the chef his name. It may not seem like anything special but in Perth it is rare that you can 1. speak to the chef directly and 2. have a friendly and welcoming chat with the owner. Atmosphere and décor — 4.5÷5 I absolutely love the décor at Bistro des Artistes, especially the mirror lined wall. I didn’t give them 5⁄5 because the bar area was not as immaculate as one would expect at such a restaurant. There was a nice atmosphere in the restaurant and indeed felt like a bistro. A nice mix of patrons contributed to the nice atmosphere; patrons ranged from young lovey dovey dressed up couples who feed each other(yes they were feeding each other…), to friends having celebratory dinners(like us) to quite casually dressed locals. Not pretentious at all. Value for money — 5⁄5 Definitely worth the money especially when you compare it to similar places. I would be happy to pay more for the quality of the food, friendly service and great atmosphere. Taste Test Total Score 17⁄20

Apparently I was the only person in Perth who hadn’t heard of Bistro des Artiste. The French style restaurant is owned by Perth ‘celebrity chefs’(who I had heard of) Alain Fabregues(Loose Box) and Emmanuel Mollois(Choux Café) and everyone I spoke to knew all of this and more. This year, my work held their Christmas lunch at Bistro des Artiste. This was the first time they had been here for Christmas lunch but colleagues had dined at the restaurant earlier in the year for a function and were very impressed. The restaurant is really light during the day and the mirrored wall give the illusion of a large and open space. On the day of our lunch, service was a little slow. It was well over 30 minutes before we were asked to select our entrée and mains. There was a rumour that one of the ovens had broken that day but I’m not sure if there was any truth to this. For entrée, I ordered the Prawn and Avocado Feuillete. I felt there was a lot of pastry and the avocado and prawn were a little lost in the dish. For mains, I ordered the Confit Duck. It was such a hot day so perhaps this rich dish wasn’t the best selection. I commented to a colleague that it was nice but it was so creamy and salty. She laughed and said«isn’t that what French food is all about?»… Good point! ;) The timing of desserts was probably the most haphazard of all three courses. There were long intervals between service and people had finished their dessert before others were even receiving theirs. I ordered the Crème Brulee which is one of my favourite desserts. It was delicious and it was huge! The dish was about the size of a bread plate and had a lovely orange flavour. I thought it was a little bit runny but it certainly did not stop be from eating every last bit. Part of the service being slow is that orders were taken but not attributed to a seat, so waitstaff were wandering between the three tables asking«Confit duck? Did you order the duck?». The same thing happened with drinks. Despite the delays, the staff were delightful. There were four on the floor looking after our tables and three were very handsome young guys with delightful European accents. This did not go unnoticed by both male and female colleagues, with a definite appreciation from the female members of staff.

A jewel in the crown in any gastronomes repertoire. The ambience was very pleasant with the staff very attentive. The food was really exceptional, the textures, taste and the recommendation of the wine all came together superbly. I would definitely recommend this as a good gastronomic adventure.

Set menu, great french cuisine, french staff, great service, and served at a speed that makes sure you’re in and out in reasonable«busy person» pace. The menu is changed up frequently, and is consistently good. Je recommande vivement ce restaurant…

I went for a staff lunch and hope to return for dinner very soon. I had the duck confit and it was cooked beautifully, softy and moist. The potatoes were something to admire, soft but not dry. Dessert I choose the layered pastry slice, delicious. A place to come for a relaxed unpretentious meal. I believe Monday night is piano night with byo wine.

Remember that amazing duck confit you ate in that little Paris bistro near the Jardin du Luxembourg? Or that perfect Chocolat Éclair you enjoyed on the steps at Montmatre? Well here they are again, courtesy of Le Bistro des Artistes. The set menu — 2 courses for $ 45 or; part with an extra $ 5 for a third– is incredible value for the standard of cuisine. Alain and Emmanuel are perfectionists, everything is cooked and plated with meticulous eye to detail. The Salmon sausage(a lot more delicate than the name makes out), is my favourite. It’s served on a bed of creamy mash, butter tarragon sauce and topped off with one of Emmanuel’s delicate little pastry crescents. A piece of Bistro trivia for you: Chef Alain draws his menu creations before he attempts them in the kitchen. He says he can taste the flavours from his depictions. And here in his restaurant, you can see his personal food drawings decorating the walls. A special touch. Because the sweets here are to die for, this should be a meeting place for afternoon coffees and tarts, too. Try anything with pastry and you’ll be hooked! Well, I haven’t been this excited about a collab since Oreo and McFlurry’s. Alain and Emmanuel are a match made in French culinary heaven.

Came here for family dinner. The service was excellent, helpful staff, gracious attitudes — enjoyable atmosphere. The foods are beautifully crafted and flavored. The only thing is that I’m not good with sweet desserts — yummy, but a bit too sweet for me.

I was so excited to have dinner with a few friends and my bf at Le Bistro Des Artistes on Friday and was looking forward to authentic French bistro managed by two well known French chefs(Alain and Emmanuel). We went there for the $ 755 course set menu(having choice of 3 items per entrée, main and dessert). — Very decently priced. We got a bottle of beautiful french red wine. The dishes were well executed but nothing outstanding WOW or special but delicious nonetheless. The only MAJOR problem was the complete LACKOFSERVICE. The waiter was disinterested, even when told that my bf was allergic to nuts he just went. hmm no nothing you choice have nuts i think. Didn’t even bother to check with the chefs at the back. Law suit anyone? And then he did not explain any of the dishes on the menu(seeing as they were all in french a little bit of explanation would be nice) nor did he tell us what was the dessert of the day — we had to ask. Then when the dishes came nothing was explained. We had to guess what cheese we got and what the apple side thing was. It was rather appalling for a «fine dining» restaurant. OH and it was so slow — everything was so slow — after our dessert our table wasn’t cleaned. THEYPROVIDEDONETEAPOTFORTWOPEOPLEWHOORDEREDJASMINETEA! and then it wasn’t cleared we weren’t asked if we enjoyed the dinner after the petite four and tea was served. APPALLING! Greatly disappointed. Oh and the place is way too bright! The mirror on one side didn’t help — it further reflected the light. Food was nothing too spectacular. Been to better places(or places with the same quality of food) but at way way way x million better service. Only good thing was the price of the menu — it’s decently priced. To make it worse although we paid over $ 10 in car parking fee around subi we managed to get a fine for being 10 minutes late all because we couldn’t get hold of a waiter to get our bill. Overall, probably the most disappointing meal I’ve had in a long while, especially when there is such potential!
