The FOOD was AMAZING! I went with the Afrikaan Kilpatrick Oysters… super tasty, and I loved the fact I could order as little as 3 for an entrée. The Lamb was cooked beautifully, pink and had this incredible smoky flavour. My partner had the Gnocchi, as the main and African mudhuts(mushrooms in a batter with filling). both super tasty! The only issue being that for those who have friends, family or partners who are vegetarian have limited options and to have a choice beyond one option would expand the clientele and allow a variety of palates to sample this incredible fare! However, we were somewhat disappointed at the wine list(it is extensive) but many weren’t available as per glass with lots of high priced wines and it would have been great to have seen cocktails on the listing. The staff were friendly, but the service was lacking. Several times we had to call them over for water refills and other requests. The upside was, we used the flash deal and there was a glitch with the site, and the restaurant honoured the deal despite it not showing in their system of which we were grateful and pleased about. The décor of the place is great! Again the food was ABSOLUTELYFAB! Alas we had dessert at another venue, but as far as the dessert list goes«THUMBSUP». next time!

For food alone, this place would definitely get 5 stars. Absolutely gourmet cuisine a step above the usual fare! As a vegetarian, I’m a bit disappointed at the limited options(only 1 main option, that changes monthly), and I wasn’t too excited about the one I was therefore forced to order, given that it had eggplant, which I don’t really like. It was amazing. Similarly, I was a bit irritated to see that the«mud huts»(stuffed mushrooms) were battered and deep fried when they came out, as this was not mentioned anywhere in the menu description and I don’t really like fried foods. Once again, however, they were actually really nice! My partner really loved his choices as well. Presentation was gorgeous. We didn’t have dessert, but were drooling over the options, and I have no doubt they’d be as incredible as the rest! This place definitely particularly caters to the meat-eaters, and they certainly expect you to pay for the joy of eating their food. Mains ranged all the way up to $ 85 and the cheapest ones starting at $ 30. The drinks were equally pricey and many of them were only available by the bottle, which is a bit of a shame as it might have been nice to splash out on a really fancy glass. There was a limited selection of beers on the menu and no cocktails. The food certainly is what you’d expect for a place in this price-point; however, the service and ambiance weren’t what I would have expected. It was a pretty casual place, with a TV on the wall in the room we were in. Not an overly romantic or fancy vibe. Service was also pretty slow, and we had trouble getting our water refills. It would have been much nicer if they’d left us a bottle on the table! There was also a mixup somewhere between Dimmi’s system and their system with our reservation, such that I was surprised to find come bill time that we were charged full-price instead of the half-price we were expecting from our Dimmi flash sale. However, after consultation with the manager, they were able to honor our deal, which we really appreciated. Overall, if money’s not a major object, this place is definitely recommended for some of the best food I’ve had in Perth! For the rest of us, it may not be a regular hangout, but it is certainly worth trying for the culinary experience.

Saw a cockroach in the bathroom! For the prices that this place charges, there should not be any cockroaches within 5 kilometers! I thought the food was overpriced and it wasn’t that good. I ordered the chicken that was on special for $ 28 and there was nothing impressive about it. The best thing we ordered(which still wasn’t even that good) was the mixed appetizer plate that came with alligator, mushroom stuffed something and olives. This place is trying to be a more upscale restaurant but there is something missing that isn’t allowing this place to be better than what it is. I wouldn’t come here again. No thank you.

Always love the thickness and tenderness of the grassfed steaks at Hippo Creek. Just wish I could afford one of the aged cuts. Tonight, my date and I started with cocktails at the bar while they prepared a table(we didnt have a booking), then shared the platter for two to start. I recommend it. You get a selection of a few different plates. All well-portioned so you dont ruin your main. For mains we shared a grassfed sirloin with the lions kill; the quarter rack that sits atop. Beats the surf n turn any day. After all that, we could hardly squeeze in the baked potato. Desserts were a definite no-no, otherwise they’d have to roll us out.

My husband and I split the ribeye for two and the pork spare ribs. The pork spare ribs were overcooked and therefore dry and the ribeye just wasn’t as tasty as we could cook at home. I will give the five stars for the oxtail soup that comes with the ribeye for two. Delicious. Their wine list has a nice variety with many great options, and the service was pleasurable.

We went here on a special occasion. We had the lamb ribs and the entrée platter as starters, which were very nice. For mains we ordered different cuts of steak, I have mine medium rare, my wife medium. The onion rings and some seasonal veggies accompanied our meat. However, both our steaks came overcooked. Mine was medium, my wife’s was medium well done. I’d like to mention that we both know what the temperature of meat should look like, this wasn’t our first time eating steak. We have had steak at fine dining restaurants as well as pubs(ie quality meat that has been aged vs meat that is bought in bulk and cooked straight away). Our server didn’t know what to do when I mentioned our steaks were overcooked, she had to get her manager. The manager basically told us that we don’t know what we are talking about, and that we could get two more steaks done but we’d have to pay for them. He offered dessert as well but we declined. Now — for a high end establishment, this was very poorly handled. The customer is always right, even when he isn’t(but in our case we were right). What they should have done is say sorry about the inconvenience, we’ll get that fixed straight away. I would have left a good review and come back. What they have done now, is they saved themselves a few bucks, but lost two customers and got a bad review, due to poor customer service. I certainly won’t be going back here. Their Hillary restaurant is better. So we paid 76 bucks for two steaks that, while still edible, were not enjoyable for us. 150 bucks altogether that I should have spent elsewhere.

Firstly, I would like to say that for all the bad food we were refunded and given dessert, but I thought I needed to write a review as fair warning. I went with a group of 6 and 4 of us whom asked for MR steaks got well done steaks. I ended up complaining and it was nice they responded appropriately, but I would NEVER go back, because it ruined dinner with friends. Try Lapa instead.

The best meat in Perth. I love Hippo Creek. The steaks have been perfectly cooked every time, the ribs are so delicious and surprisingly filling. My particular favorite meal is the Lions Kill; 300g Sirloin steak+sauce, 1 serve of Ribs and chips/mash/baked potato. Great selection of wines, as well as other drinks and off the menu cocktails. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Hippo Creek could practically pass as my second home. It is generally the Hillary’s restaurant that I dine at most, however on this rare occasion where my family and I were meeting for lunch we headed to the Subiaco restaurant. My family must have gotten sick of me carrying on about how amazing Hippo Creek is because we sat there for about 30 minutes before even having the waitress come and take our order. By the time we got our meals it had been about an hour and everyone was starving. Unfortunately the food was a disappointment and was the last the last pull of the straw. I think I will stick it the Hillary’s and Scarborough restaurants because Subiaco was plain crap.
