I love the Tao in Vic Park and hoped that the one in Subi would be as good. We were seriously disappointed. The place was completely empty at 2pm on a Saturday. It was quite warm, possibly due to the fact it’s open to the street or the aircon wasn’t on. Either way, it made me worried about eating the unrefrigerated sushi cruising around on the conveyor belt. We grabbed the squid salad off the conveyor belt and it was warm. Should be cold. Hmmm. We decided at that point to order some made to order food off the menu. We ordered the beef tataki which came out like a tower of tataki. Despite its unusual appearance it was delicious. One of the best I have ever eaten. We also had the pad Thai but it was a touch bland. Given the amount of restaurants in Subi and the variety available we won’t be eating here again. Too many great choices to go back to an average restaurant.

Fusion is always a strange mix, and the moment you have so many different menu items in the mix, not sure any of it can be great.

Had breakfast here with a friend. We are breakfast fiends and try many different cafes. This place by far is the best we’ve been to. It has a really airy, modern space. I had the Pork Belly & Chorizo breakfast and it was so delicious. My friend had the full breakfast and loved it and it was huge. She couldn’t finish it. We went on a Scoopon voucher and they treated us really well. The service was attentive and very friendly. I’m taking my husband and family back. Love it. Free parking in the Subiaco carpark for 90 minutes, too. Thanks Tao Café.

Prices are about $ 5-$ 10 more compared to the late Subiaco Markets. Servings however are larger than average my spicy viet noodle dish had a lot of meat in it surprisingly. The Sushi I had however had chicken that was dry and tough. Service was decent however. Overall food is nothing spectacular, I probably won’t return anytime soon.

First impressions– Happy to see the Wagamama space fitted out so nicely, with a fast moving, fully laden sushi train beckoning. Settling in, service was friendly albeit a bit disorganised and not very knowledgable. The menu is standard Tao fare, and our few mains left us underwhelmed. Specifically, the«Vietnamese» satay chicken looked alright on the plate, but the sauce lacked flavour and umph. «Japanese» popcorn shrimp were fresh, but embued with a spicy-sweet pink Mayo sauce which looked straight out a bottle. Best bet is to stick to the sushi, grab a pot of hot tea, and enjoy the place for the fast casual that it is.
