Another little espresso bar that I have stumbled across, to be fair I’m not 100% sure about this place, coffee is nothing special… and I really hate it when establishments store items in customer seating areas… I’m not 100% sure I’ll be returning

I am rating this on the coffee alone, which I think is among the best of the North Shore, and easily the best in Kirribilli. The food menu is ok for a quick brunch, but nothing to write home about. The staff are generally very friendly, and now I have re-located to Singapore, the thing I miss most is my early morning Flat White from Bacino.

Spot the red umbrellas on your way down to the harbour and you’ve found Bacino Espresso — a little café that specialises in sandwiches and coffee in a Euro-inspired setting. A recent lunch visit served up a vegetarian panini full of marinated eggplant, capsicum and Danish fetta on a not-so-panini-like soft roll flecked with pieces of fragrant rosemary. Other bites on offer supported this wannabe Italian approach — salmon and cream cheese and bacon and egg fillings, less than authentic. It seems this place is aiming to give locals a little flavour of Rome in the heart of Kirribilli — think San Pellegrino soft drinks, wicker chairs and street-facing tables a la piazza. But no matter, as service does come with a genuine smile and the food is tasty too.

A taste of Italy in Kirribilli this place feels like an authentic Italian bar. Wander inside and you’ll find a plethora of Italian sweet and savory treats — Almond Biscotti, Panettone, Cannoli, Prosciutto Panini, Meatball Ciabatta and of course the obligatory Gelato. Once you’ve ordered what takes your fancy, perch yourself outside on the tables and chairs and take in the distinctive village feel of this particular street. Do yourself a favour and try a cappuccino($ 3) here — excellent coffee mixed with real chocolate flakes is hard to go past. If you’re looking for breakfast try the Italian Scrambled Eggs which is woodfire toast, scrambled eggs with tomato, ham and basil topped with a dollop of hollandaise(OMG!)($ 12.50).

Bacino have a number of establishments in Sydney selling Italian snacks, sweets and coffee. The Paninis and Ciabattas are beautifully presented and having sampled them from their other stores I can tell you they’re decadent and delicious. However, this is probably my least favourite site. Something about this place just feels like a take-away coffee place to me though. I wouldn’t ever seek it out to sit and eat but that might just the fact that it’s situated in such a great spot for exploring the harbour. Even with its decent outdoor space, where you could easily stretch a newspaper in comfort, I can’t help but think of the view round the corner. It does do one of the best coffees in Kirribilli Village though and the very best thing about this place is the real flaked chocolate on the Cappuccino. Choccy-nose a-go-go.
