If pizza had stayed traditionally italian we’d only have four flavours. This place is adding some great new flavours to the dumpling mix. I love dumplings. I eat dumplings most weeks, and until now have always had the same types from the same places. Traditional asian style pork/seafood dumpings mostly. This place offers traditional dumplings with their own twist(improvement, I think), but the real drawcard is trying their dumpling creations. I tried the scallop, chicken & kaffir leaves as well as their pork/prawn mixtures and was pleasantly surprised. Even their sauce rocked my world. The dumplings are cooked fresh for you and you can eat in or takeaway. The prices are a little more expensive than other dumpling places but I felt was on par with the food. Will be back for sure. If you are a dumpling lover who has tried them all — I’d definitely recommend giving this place a shot.

Dumpling Den has been open for a little while now at the Event Cinemas on George Street, so I figured it was time to try it. How have they been able to stay in business for so long? The premise is dumplings a-la-carte, or to order a specific kind in groups of 3 or 4. These dumplings are fusion dumplings… which just doesn’t seem right. No, this is just plain wrong. For example, you can get a Thai Coconut Chicken dumpling, Mongolian Beef Dumpling, Cheeseburger Dumpling, Portuguese Chicken dumpling, and so on. They even have Dumpling Sliders. Yes, you read that correctly, sliders that have dumplings as filling instead of a beef patty/chicken patty. I had one(fried chicken dumpling slider) and regretted it immediately. The concept is intriguing, the execution is an assault of epic proportions on your taste buds. These creations are less culinary genius, more Frankenstein’s monster. It’s a Pyrrhic victory for Dumpling Den as they may win your business for a meal, but they will lose it forever after destroying your memories of a good dumpling. The customer loses, and Dumpling Den will eventually lose. How do you make a bad dumpling!!! How!!!
