My wife wanted prior my daughters wedding to take the women of the wedding party out. The high tea sounded like being the ideal option but the food was a let down as the sandwiches were dry and the amount of food supplied was small compared to the $ 49 price charged without any alcohol. The service was 5 star luckily as this at least left a good feeling also the restaurant had a lovely atmosphere for the party.

If you have nostalgia for a very proper British setting, then Globe Bar & Brasserie is where you’ll find it. Set inside the beautiful Observatory Hotel this elegant spot does excellent afternoon tea(of course, darling) but equally as enjoyable evening drinks. I ventured up here one Friday evening and I dare say it was the most civilized Friday evening I have had in a while. We sat ourselves at the bar in beautiful leather barstools(the antique furniture was occupied). Our waiter diligently took our order and service was of the kind of standard where the wait staff wear white gloves. The live pianist took to the piano and the rooms filled up with beautiful music. We ordered tapas plates to compliment our drinks(and honestly to keep us sober, this is not a place for rowdiness) which were very nice. Of course everything here is a little on the overpriced side but the pomp and circumstance of the experience makes it worthwhile.

Best kept secret in Sydney. The Globe Bar has the old school makings of a scaled down version of The Oak Bar at The Plaza. Wood panelling, high backed leather seats, waiters carrying starched white linen on their arms. I LOVEIT. The De La Citie cocktail is lychee perfection and has been the liquid soundtrack to many a fuzzy evening in this bar. They have a piano player on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings when the mood is subdued, chatter discreet but this bar has more charm than any other ‘hotel’ bar I’ve ever been in. To call it a hotel bar would be an insult. It’s an excuse to snuggle up close and extend your pinkie finger. Try not to spill it! Afternoon tea is served here from 2.30pm to 5.00pm weekdays and from 1.30pm to 4.30pm at weekends. It’s elegant, beautiful and very popular for it. You can even have your tea leaves read. Mine would say ‘come back soon’.
