Food was delicious! However service was terrible & slow! They were obviously understaffed but would have appreciated a bit of notice with regards to how long it would start. For example, the guy sitting next to me at the table; we orded the exact same thing and mine came as he ate the last mouthful… Winners were: any sashimi — it was super fresh! And the Bento Boxes were great value!

When I first stepped into this restaurant, I was a silly high school kid. Now I am a uni grad and this place, is still my number one. Among the endless row of restaurants on Dixon street, I always find myself at Roll+ when the crave for Japanese hits me. And speaking from my record, this place hasn’t disappointed me in 5 years. Having tried all the dishes this place got to offer, it is a major challenge for me to pick only few out of all the yummies, but if I was to bring a first timer, following dishes are the oned I would generally recommend for a try out. Okonomiyaki. Roll plus is one of the only restaurants in Sydney which serves Okonomiyaki(Japanese style pizza). Unfortunately, it is prepared in-kitchen, not out on street nor on table as I remember from my trip to Japan. But taste-wise, it is just as good, if not better. I usually get Seafood one but you can choose other toppings like vegetarian, beef or chicken. *If you were to order this dish, there is just one tip from me. Make sure you get the large one. Because it really is GOOD. Next is Karaage Chicken, which is basically deep fried chicken. But don’t be silly to compare this dish to your local KFC. I haven’t figured out the secret recipe yet but it just taste so tender and delicious. For a main dish? Deluxe Bento. Let me tell you, this dish is a biggie. Coming with literally everything you can name of Japanese,(Starting from sushi, sashimi, tempura, terriyaki chicken, salad, and of course, miso soup) I would say what else could be better for those who just want a plate full of JAPAN. Choosing a roll to go with is also a good move, and this is where I believe you shall make your own decision. I like them all, but I do understand eating philadelphia cheese with rice and salmon(Philadelphia Time roll), or cereal with rice and chicken katsu(Chrunch? Crunch! roll) can be something very new to some. This place is fully licensed, so sake on the side is always a plus, and there are tons of dishes to choose from for your ‘veggies-only-plz’ friends too. So there it is, all my tips out of my 5 yrs record!

Tucked off the busy thoroughfare of Chinatown on Dixon Street is a little unassuming, simple sushi house. At 4pm on a Sunday the place was empty, but a sign out front advertised $ 5 sake bombs. We were sold. The waitress brought the sake bombs already«bombed;» i.e. shot glass at the bottom of the tall glass of Sapporo like the sunken Titanic. True to tradition, we chugged the whole thing in one go. Yep, badasses. We ordered a large sushi combo($ 25) and a Shy Prawn roll($ 13). The Shy Prawn came first, and let me tell you, there was nothing shy about this roll. With crunchy tempura prawn, cucumber and avo inside and sweet sauce /mayo striped on the top, each piece came in that you-can-hardly-fit-the-whole-thing-in-your-mouth size. Despite the ugly chewing it provoked, the roll was pretty darn delicious. The sushi plate came next. With salmon, tuna, squid, prawn, octopus, and eel I felt like we had hit the underwater jackpot. Every cut tasted incredibly fresh. Roll Plus sells itself a little bit short with appearance and name. Honestly, when was the last time you had a gourmet meal at a place with«Plus» in the title? Despite this, the little Chinatown restaurant definitely delivers on quality, service and value.
