I walked passed this place a thousand times and I always noticed the interesting interior but never went. That is until I was in a cast and can’t walk too far from the office. I went here for a drink with a few friends and i approve of the outdoor heater. Its nice being able to sit outside and still be warm. The coffee was good, but the service if you’re sitting outside is rather sporadic. We ended up staying here till late so we ordered some nibbles. The truffle arancini was nice but rather lacked the truffle. Overall, the food and drinks are decent but not enough to make me want to rush back.

Eggs bene were good but took very long time to get, place was not too busy mid morning on a Saturday so not sure why so slow. Service not good though they were friendly. Too bad since it’s a great location. Wouldn’t recommend.

The Canopy was right around the corner from our hotel, and as guests we had access to a 10% discount, which was the only reason we ate there. It didn’t appear to have much appeal at first glance. But we were pleasantly surprised! The prices are very reasonable compared to nearby Surry Hills restaurants. After our discount, our bill was only $ 45 for two toasted sourdough starters and two Spaghetti Napoletana mains. The serving sizes were a little on the large size, but we managed to finish everything and it was all great. The wait for our mains was a bit long though — if we hadn’t ordered starters, I would have pretty grumpy. The service was friendly, and the atmosphere casual and unpretentious. I would definitely eat here again.

On a raining Sunday afternoon, it’s nice to step into a dry, roomy and warm welcoming space for a while. Sodden from a heavy downpour, I am met at the door, invited to leave my umbrella to dry where it’s safe and shown to my table. The service is very nice. The outlook is onto Hyde Park which is pleasant. The décor is ambient with tree sculptures adorning the walls, hence the«canopy». I enjoy a hot coffee and my companion has a Sauvignon Blanc with shoestring fries. Just the thing to warm us up! It’s the kind of place we felt welcome to sit in for hours, very relaxed and nice. Thank you.

Came here from 5.30pm to meet with friends and left at 9.00pm. The Canopy is a great spot for a relaxed meal, without the rush. For mains, I ordered fettuccine. The pasta was absolutely delicious, al dente and cooked perfectly. The sauce was flavoursome and not too thick, with pieces of bacon and mushroom throughout. This was only $ 20 and I got a huge bowl of pasta which my friend helped me to eat after she finished her meal. My friends ordered the beef cheeks and the risotto which both looked delicious. For dessert, I had the molten lava cake which was ooey and delicious — just as you want it. $ 13 My friend had an affogato which she said was really well made and tasted delicious $ 13 The servers were really nice. One of the male employees had a bit of cheek but he was funny and friendly. I would definitely come here again for a casual meal.

Excellent service — we went there for breakfast with a $ 20 Groupon and were greeted by friendly staff, seated by a window, and served large portions of tasty food. We ordered Sweet Corn and Zucchini Fritters and the Canopy’s Big Brekky, as well as Lemongrass Tea and a Café Latte. The fritters were flavourful and presentable, and topped off with pleasant smoked salmon. The Big Brekky was filling and delicious with its crispy bacon and eggs scrambled to perfection. My coffee was amazing and was very aesthetically pleasing too. Great views and great food — also for such a low price. $ 20 for over $ 40 worth of food. However there was no different treatment or lower food quality due to buying with a Groupon. Would definitely go again.

WHAT is up with the negative reviews for this place?! I, for one, am the queen of bad reviews(because I am blunt and not passive aggressive. Or afraid. Or have a conscience!), but this is definitely not a one-star place. For instance, the coffee is AMAZING. Walk by here any week day between 6:30 — 8:30am and it’s queued up with people grabbing and going. Love their coffee and the beans. Second, the food was really good. I only had brunch here but it blew me away. Eggs benny and truffle. mmmmm. Other reviews seem to say it’s swanky or whatever, but yes. You’re in the CBD with a full view of Hyde Park. It could probably be a bit pretentious at night but I’m judging solely on their brunch and coffee. Which goes a long way in my books. Would probably come back for dinner! The inside is nice. not too loud. Looks like a place I’d have a glass of wine with a friend and pretend to have deep intellectual conversations(ie. pretentious).

The Canopy restaurant offers prime views out over Hyde Park onto the Anzac Memorial. The restaurant offers dining and takeaway coffees and pastries. The restaurant is a little more up market with waiters and waitresses dressed in suits and more formal attire. With that said the prices don’t come with a premium. I decided to try it out for breakfast. I ordered a Chai Latte and Zucchini and Corn fritters. The service was good without being exceptional. The drinks came out quickly and the quality of coffee was very good. The breakfast arrived to the table and thumbs up for the presentation it was excellent. Really displayed well. The zucchini fritters were also delicious too and good serving size. I was left fully content after the meal even though I had just finished a run. My friend ordered the Eggs Benedict with Truffle and salmon and it tasted very nice too. Good eatery and will need to check it out for a lunch or dinner some time.

I didn’t get a good first impression mainly because of the grumpy waitress. The customers here also seemed to be grumpy. I came here on the weekend for breakfast. I didn’t like the ambience as there were a lot of people walking in this area. The food was ok. I know a lot of other cafes with better food, friendlier wait staff, and more relaxed atmosphere. This is not one of my fave restaurants. Staff need to be coached to deliver service with a smile, not just bringing food to the table, it’s part of the job in hospitality.

Recommended by our hotel, but the steak was full of gristle and barely edible and not cooked to order, the salad was supposed to have been served with balsamic vinaigrette, but there was a 10 – 90 percent ratio of balsamic to olive oil. The bread was very good.

I had a meeting here the other day, and I felt like I just walked into Swanksville. Population? Me and 2 others. The location is kinda spesh, you are opposite Hyde Park, there’s plenty of outdoor seating and it is super accessible for city workers and travelling tourists alike… So I wonder why it is empty. The interior is fancy shmancy. I almost feel like this is what is hurting the place though. From the outside it looks like you are going to a coffee shop, then you set foot inside and its all mirrors and lux wood, and grandiose furniture(at least that’s the impression I got, I was kinda in a hurry). The space is fairly vast, so when you and the 2 people you are meeting are the only ones occupying it, you notice the emptiness. Perhaps the breakfast hour would provide a different experience, but it all felt so sterile to me. It FELT like I was in a meeting rather than in a relaxed space sharing ideas. Whilst the espresso I had was good, and the waiter was prompt and kept out of our way whilst we conducted bidness, I just never got into being there. If you asked me to describe the interior in more detail, I simply couldn’t because it never invited me in. First impressions count, and I feel like I’d only ever come back here to have another meeting with the same people, cos it’s right next to their office(be back on Tuesday methinks).

Decent food. Good prompt, professional service. Bring a friend and have something to drink. Otherwise the experience is too pedestrian for the price. I imagine it would be great for a gabby dinner after work while you’re still in suits.

I have a hard time tearing myself away from the ‘oh so convenient’ food court for lunches in the CBD so I was pleased when I found Canopy. It’s a decent sandwich joint with a view of the park. Yeah, the service is hit or miss and the fries are pretty generic(just the way I like them but you prob won’t) but the sandwiches are consistently delicious and the salads look pretty tasty too. The fresh air makes you feel like you are taking a real break from work. Don’t expect a grand lunch experience but if I you want to shake things us and like sandwiches give it a try.

Traveled all over the world and never encountered a waiter more rude in my life. He came over to the table and said«what are you looking for»? Thinking the question quite odd, but wrote it off as colloquial I said«dinner». He finally brought menus after a long time but never took a drink order. I finally started out for the bar to get us drinks when the waiter looked angry that I was getting my own drinks. He came to me and shouted«I am alone here. What do you want me to do»? I said«I’m just getting our drinks». He shouted at me, «if you don’t like the service here than just go somewhere else». I was absolutely floored by this. I really let him have it and then went in to find the boss to no avail but told he staff to pass the message on to the manager that he needs to fire this idiot pronto. What could be worse for your business than that? Amazing…

We came for breakfast & even though they were just about at capacity they quickly made up a table for four. Brought both kids and they were flexible with the menu. Staff friendly & efficient. Kids poached eggs were runny & the pancakes with maple syrup & bacon was MASSIVE. Coffee tasted a tad burnt but when Starbucks is the norm you can’t complain. Not that pricey for Sydney either. Wouldn’t go outta my way to go here but wouldn’t avoid it either.

We came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning, and with greatly reduced traffic noise — it was quite pleasant sitting outside. I imagine during a busy weekday it would be hard to hear yourself think. We ordered the French toast and the corn fritters and a couple of coffees. In general, I would describe the food as «OK». Nothing wrong with it, nothing great about it. Likewise the coffee. It tasted OK without being awesome. The French toast brioche was light and fluffy, and the caramelised banana was slightly over done and on the edge of being too mushy — but still acceptable. The main issue was the gallon of thick maple syrup — I’d probably go for a lighter blend if I were the chef. The vanilla ice cream that was supposed to come with it, didn’t. So maybe that would have cut through the syrup. The corn fritters I am told we’re slightly dry but still edible. The suggestion from the critic across from me was that maybe a crème fraise would have gone better than the goats cheese crumble — again the balance the textures. As you can plainly see — we’ve been watching way too much Masterchef. The staff were friendly and polite and the service was very efficient — so top marks for that. On the weekends there aren’t many breakfast options in the city. If I was in the area, I’d come here again — but probably wouldn’t make the hike on purpose.

Worst breakfast ever! Skip this place if you are looking for breakfast. Three of us ordered different meals and ALL of us were disappointed. Service is slow and food overpriced. I just ordered a side of bacon, side of baked beans and slice of bread and this cost more than either of the other 2 meals at $ 13AU! WTF? And nothing had flavor. The consensus is that the food was flavorless. We agreed we should have just stuck with coffees and a pastry.

I had lunch here with friends and it was OK. I had chicken with salad and fries, the portion was OK but overpriced for the size really. The service is pretty good, very polite but things are slow to come out of the kitchen. A ‘quick’ lunch of just a meal and no drinks still took the best part of 45 minutes, most being waiting time. I’d consider trying it again but definitely not at lunch time. The venue is noisy inside and not conducive to conversation, after a while we found ourselves just sitting in silence because of the noise. Too many hard surfaces reflecting it around. Overall, food quality is excellent but just $$$ can’t be justified except maybe for the rent in that location.

The Canopy has opened in a great location, looking over Hyde Park(and the Liverpool Street traffic). The space is very stark and I believe with the uniformed staff they are aiming for clientele with the expense accounts and long lunch attitudes. There is inside and out dining area and a mobile coffee cart position outside to capture some of this caffeine trade(and yes there are good looking men as the barista). As we were lunching a couple of days after New Year, we were eating light(in an attempt to lose the festive pounds) and there for had salad. This garnished a stare from the chef and head waiter who I don’t think were too impressed. The menu does look good, with an assortment of pizzas, pastas and traditional mains. A Salmon dish did go past and looked rather tasty. So did the wine list and bar menu(which is only available after 4pm). So there is not much more I can say on this one, but I am going to head back soon and have a proper meal with wine and will let you know.
