Love this little ‘hole in the wall’ restaurant which isn’t immediately noticeable from the street, but is well worth looking for. Have been coming here as long as I can remember — maybe the past 20 years, and the food is consistently fantastic! It’s also privately owned so the quality of recipes have a unique taste and have stayed consistent across this time, and the place has a really personal feel to it. Staff are friendly enough but mostly leave you alone unless you want something. The décor is borderline Mexican tacky, but works well in this setting. The walls are painted with cartoon Mexican characters and the paint is peeling, but it all adds to the atmosphere. They usually do a pretty good special on a bucket of coronas, or you can get a jug of sangria with your meal — not the best sangria ever but decent enough. There is parking under the building if you enter from the driveway directly along the side. If you love Mexican, and want to skip the average chain restaurants that pump out the same old dishes at inflated prices, try here. You won’t be disappointed!

This is the type of place that inspires me to open an affordable Mexican restaurant. The only burrito that should cost $ 21 is one that is wrapped in gold foil, stuffed with fresh black truffle shavings flown in first class with Qantas, and with a pico de gallo made out of unicorn tears. My $ 7 vegetarian tacos were ok but for that price I expect something that I can’t get at a taco stand in Cozumel. I expect tempeh, tofu, smoked mushrooms or something more creative for that price. I’ve had amazing $ 5– $ 3 tacos elsewhere in Australia with those choices. I wish I could tell you about the $ 21 burrito but my conscience wouldn’t let me order something that only a Wall St banker would order. You can get more creative Mexican food elsewhere in Brisbane and for a decent price. I don’t like writing negative reviews but I find these prices not only offensive but insulting as well. Either lower the prices or give me mind blowing Mexican food.

Great little suburbian restaurant, while still being easily accessible by train. Great tasting Mexican fare with friendly service. They seemed to be a little understaffed on the busy Saturday night we dined here, so it was a bit hard to catch wait staffs attention to order more drinks, but otherwise the service was fantastic. Do yourself a favour & try the jalapeño poppers!

The only thing I’ve tried here is Beef or Chicken Nachos. The large portion is around $ 20 – 30 and it can fit 2 people. You also can do take away which is good cos I live next door. Most of the time I see they are lack of staff. And some of the seating is kinda dark because they are not right under the lights. During summer is not good place to hang out because most of the time thee aircon doesn’t work. I’m not very satisfy with the service and the food too. So probably I go there when I really really want to eat nachos. It’s pretty good actually. But kinda pricy. So it’s not really my favorite place for nachos.

Try the queso dip. Smoky, cheesy goodness. And the jalapeño poppers are prepared nicely here.(Hubby recommends dunking jalapenos into said queso.) Not a bad Mexican joint for BNE. Friendly & been around for like ever. Long before there was ever a trend for Mexican joints to pop up all around town, you had Dos Amigos serving up a half-decent serve of basic Mexican-esque fare. For this ex-pat midwestern American, it was THE go-to place when taco night at home just wouldn’t cut it. It may not be «authentic» but the flavours are far superior to what their equally as unauthentic competitors down the street put up. In terms of sit-down & be served Mexican restaurants, it’s certainly still my pick despite the newer entrants. The servings are quite generous. It can be busy on Friday night, so a booking is a good idea. But, we’ve never really had trouble getting in. And, if I’m not mistaken, if you come early for dinner(like between 5p &6pm) there is a 10% disount.(Please don’t hold me to that, I could be wrong.) If you are a burrito lover, go the enchilada-style: it is a nice twist. Service is friendly & efficient. Meals do not take long to come out by experience. I reckon this is such a plus — generally eating Mexican comes with a feeling of being famished and ravenously hungry.

Like all of the other reviews have said, these meals are HUGE! I think it’s great value for money, but make sure you come hungry. Despite knowing this we still ordered entrees. No regrets though, as they were the best jalepino poppers I’ve ever had. The menu is extensive and I had a hard time choosing, especially with the very tempting combination deals on the back page! I ended up with a chimichanga though, as they’re a bit more difficult to come by than a burrito! The food is really good, though I wouldn’t say there’s anything special about it. Fairly standard Tex-Mex style. The margaritas were great — made fresh, not from a slushy machine! The service was incredibly friendly and I was surprised with how quickly the food was brought out. In previous experience at other Mexican restaurants it’s always been quite a wait! And kudos to the staff for not kicking us out when my group of friends was caught up in conversation and they had clearly started to pack up for the night.

The warning on Dos Amigos ‘combination meal’ menu, «These dinners are very large — entrees not recommended!», clearly translated to «Challenge Accepted» for the men of our group when we all dined at Dos Amigos. They happily ordered their selected combination meals and entrees of coyote balls(chorizo sausage balls deep fried). Fast forward to the end of the night and their plates were only half-eaten and the waitress was standing at our table telling them of their doggy-bag options. Suffice to say, be warned — if you are ordering a combination meal maybe order one between two which, you know, makes it a pretty ok date meal. Not being a fan of anything too spicy I played it safe and ordered the ‘Amigo Special’(a chicken enchilada casserole with a creamy mushroom and sweet anaheim sauce.) Playing it safe doesn’t always mean awesome. It was good but the flavour was lacking and I know, I know: serves me right for not getting anything with spice! All in all, Dos Amigos is a charming little surprise in Taringa. It’s cheap as chips(we all got away with about $ 25 a head) and decent food. Best for groups I think.

Surprise surprise, I am writing yet another review of a Mexican restaurant. This one, is one of the good ones so i could not not write a review on it. Dos Amigos is in a somewhat random location, down a set of stairs next to a Dominos in the suburb of Taringa. It is situated only a few doors down from ‘Montezuma’s’(popular Mexican chain restaurant’) and out of the two, this one if the best. I have dined here with large groups of friends and with one or two people. Regardless of the size of the dining party, I have been pretty satisfied with this place in regards to the food, service and ambiance. The serving proportions are pretty generous and if your are really hungry, you can get yourself a combo meal which will offer 2 to 3 different items(such as 1 burrito, 1 enchilada and 1 Tortilla). What I have done before is share a combo meal with someone else. The place also has a bar that offers a nice selection of drinks including Mexican beers and Margaritas. Like many Mexican restaurants, the place is decorated to be very vibrant with its use of red, green, and yellow colour schemes. Dos Amigos is a wonderful Mexican restaurant. If you like Mexican food and have not tried this place yet, head over to Taringa and give these guys a go!

Dos Amigos has been on the Taringa main strip since it was just a place for offices, convenience stores and a way to get to Indooroopilly. The suburb has grown up around it(mainly due to the large housing development on the site of the old school) however Dos Amigos is unchanged. Which is a good thing! Sure, Tex Mex might not be ‘proper’ Mexican but it is a culinary favourite of many Australians and Dos Amigos does it damn well. You get your standard array of nachos, tacos, burritos and chimichangas but they also do jalapeño poppers which I ADORE(and are annoyingly rare on Mexican menu’s). Jalapeño poppers, for the uninitiated, are whole jalapeño chillies stuffed with cream cheese then battered and deep fried. It’s unholy Texan Mexican at its best and I love love love them. Oh, and they also do jugs of Margaritas. Loves it.

Dos Amigos must be doing something right. Since opening in 1987 they have enjoyed reasonable success and boast a surprisingly high rate of returning customers. The atmosphere is fun, lots of wood panelling and sombreros on the walls and very festively coloured, pretty much what you would expect from a Australian Mexican restaurant. Same goes for the food; I prefer Dos Amigos to Montezumas(as it’s not a chain), but that’s not to say it rates super high against Mexican food in the US. But that goes without saying really… However it is warm and comfortable, the waitstaff are friendly and the food itself is affordable and tasty. If you’re in the mood for jugs of margaritas(or BYO wine only) and a reasonable sized feed of tacos, burritos and enchiladas, this is the place for you. And on a side note if you love your deep fried goodness, order the chimichangas or the deep fried jalapeño poppers. Delicious!
