Looks like a funky little shop. Shame that I’ve driven 25 minutes — TWICE — to be told, laughingly, that they are out of the bread I’m trying to trial. Highly frustrated, not helped by «friendly» help that feels condescending.

The best coffee in Toowong, staff are always so friendly and they have awesome vegan/gluten free options. Very accommodating to various dietary requirements and nothing is too much trouble here! :)

Freshly baked bread, freshly brewed coffee and other café delights. There’s not much more you could want from a local hub. Sol Bread wins my vote for offering me a spot to pick up my weekly Gluten Free loaf of bread.

This tiny café nestled into Sherwood Road really nourishes the soul. Selling a variety of wholesome breads(the hazelnut and fruit loaf is to die for), pastries, salads and coffees, it is a wonderful place to unwind and refuel. Their Thai pumpkin turnover is absolutely delish — the pastry is beautifully flaky and melts in your mouth. The pumpkin has a wonderfully nutty taste and is enhanced with a slight cardamom flavour. Barely fitting onto the plate it was served on, it definitely fills the gap. The coffee is equally as delicious — I ordered a soy latte and the milk was perfectly silky smooth. There’s limited seating, but if you’re lucky enough to grab a chair(or wooden stool), pick up a copy of a magazine or newspaper and ponder what loaf of bread you’ll take home with you.

For a decent coffee, great bread and a good people-watching vantage point, Sol Breads Toowong is perfect, and it’s all organic. This hole-in-the-wall café and bakery has outdoor and indoor seating. It’s not ideal for big groups but is perfect for twos, threes and solo café goers. And as I said, their pavement tables are perfect for watching the world go by. Sol does croissants with butter and jam for breakfast, salads and baked goods for lunch and has a range of take-home breads. I’m a big fan of the Spelt Mega Grain, packed with lots of lovely whole grains, but at around $ 7 per loaf, can’t afford to buy it too often. As it’s a small café, usually staffing one barista at a time, service can be a bit slow, particularly if they’re in a busy patch. Provided you’re not in too much of a rush, check it out.
